Villa have confirmed the signing of Stewart Downing: Downing Signing Confirmed

Downing has spoken of his delight at joining Villa saying the excitement of being part of a great forum like Vital Villa was too much to resist... oh hang on, sorry, he didn't say that at all. Mike Field: Stewart Downing has spoken of his delight at joining the Villa, and suggested it was a no brainer after speaking to Martin O'Neill. Speaking on the official site, Downing explains that the ambition of the manager and the direction of the club were a massive factor in his decision to move from Smoggy Boro to Rainy Brum. 'I am really pleased to be joining Villa. It's a massive football club with good ambition. When it became apparent that Villa were interested I was very excited. I wanted to come as soon as I met Martin O'Neill so I am delighted it's now sorted out. Full article: Downing Delighted To Join

Tony Cascarino says Villa have a good signing in Downing after speaking to The Times: 'Stewart Downing is a really good signing for Aston Villa, even though he may not be fit until October. Once he is, I’m sure he’ll make a big impact. I saw Downing play five times last year and on four occasions he was the best player on the park. Without him, Middlesbrough would have been even more dire. In a good team, Downing will shine. He’s versatile, with a wonderful left foot, and quicker than many people think. He also has a great attitude. However, he must improve his scoring rate – only two goals last term, both in the FA Cup.' (Reports the other week were suggesting he won't be back for October and will need longer to recover from his foot surgery)

Vital Villa have launched a 4th shirt in the Vital shop: CLICK HERE The shirt retails at £9.00 and the postage (for all) have now been reduced to £2.20 after the guys manufacturing them for us took the feedback and reacted positively.

I'm going to go for the Acorns 450 challenge to see how much, through this site, can be raised over the season for Acorns. More news to follow once I've registered. Due to the attempts Villa have given me permission to print a one off shirt mentioning Vital Villa (Villa, Aston Villa etc is obviously copyright of the club) so will look to get a good design for that. Glensider: Oh To Have Been Under That Gaslight In 1874 I wonder just what they would think. That gathering of gentlemen from the Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel Cricket Team, who stopped under that Heathfield Road gaslight back in 1874. They were there to discuss the options open to them over the winter months, options that would keep them fit and in close contact with one another, until the next cricket season came around the following year. Downing Average player at best. Only reason he didn't go to Spurs is we would not pay more than 7m which is a true valuation. A bad signing to replace Chelsea bound Ashley Young.
