Downing Signing Confirmed
Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Stewart Downing from Middlesbrough on a four-year-deal.

Meanwhile former Villa and Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino says Villa have a good signing in Downing after speaking to The Times: 'Stewart Downing is a really good signing for Aston Villa, even though he may not be fit until October. Once he is, I’m sure he’ll make a big impact. I saw Downing play five times last year and on four occasions he was the best player on the park. Without him, Middlesbrough would have been even more dire. In a good team, Downing will shine. He’s versatile, with a wonderful left foot, and quicker than many people think. He also has a great attitude. However, he must improve his scoring rate – only two goals last term, both in the FA Cup.' (Reports the other week were suggesting he won't be back for October and will need longer to recover from his foot surgery)

I think its a good signing... i know a lot of people arent impressed.. but we need to improve our squad quality and i think the downing does that.. we need to be able to rotate and be happy with the side (think MON wasnt happy with squad depth thats why he hardly changed the side.) or we will burn out at the end of the season again.

was good to see that he said as soon as he spoke to MON he knew he wanted to sign for us that shows that we definitely not lacking ambition and im sure it puts out a great message to any other potential signings that this club is on the up! welcome mr downing, get better soon

Makes me laugh when tools come on this site and say things like "The only reason he didn't sign for us is because we wouldn't pay more than [make up a number]". You know that for a fact do you? Seems like some people are more interested in other people's teams than their own....I guess you can't blame some of them....
