Players Agree With Fans - Petrov For Captain
There is a short article in The Mirror by James Nursey saying that Stiliyan Petrov is favourite amongst the Villa players to be the new Villa skipper following the departure of £areth Barry and retirement of Martin Laursen.
We asked the same of you on June 1.... at the time it was an 'if' but was all about who should be the new captain.
If Barry goes, who should skipper Villa?

I think John Carew would be an excellent captain. Ever since the arrival of Heskey he has been a much better player and leads by ezample. Although i gather from other people Petrov would be better but for me he is too quiet of a player. Friedel would be also good being always in the team. Could have him as captain for a season whilst we settle the ship. Maybe the defence will listen to him and he might be able to stop conceding poor defensive error type goals

Totally agree with Petrov, I think he will be great and hes got a good mind of attack and defense.

I think that as of this minute, Stiliyan is the obvious choice, but who knows, maybe Martin O'Neill will bring in a ready made captain from elsewhere? Brad Friedel is no doubt in with a shout, but personally I'm not so keen on a goalkeeper being the skipper, I'd much rather an outfield player. Selecting a captain right now is hardly our most pressing concern though, focus should be on the team/squad strengthening that is now reaching a critical stage. O.K., maybe its not ultra-important to have our strongest team (including new faces) out at either London or Layer Road, but surely we want to send close to our premiership starting team into The Peace Cup tournament?
