Tuesday's Aston Villa Transfer Talk

Tuesday's Aston Villa Transfer Talk

The Daily Mirror say Villa will bid £7million for Leeds midfielder Fabian Delph. Reports last week suggested Leeds had rejected two bids in the region of £6million from Premier League clubs for the 19-year-old.

The Daily Star claim Villa will try to wrap up a £24million 'double swoop' for Spurs striker Darren Bent and Middlesbrough winger Steward Downing this week. Both would fit into Martin O'Neill's seeming policy to stick with mostly British players and players who have at least been on the fringes of the England international squad.

Looks really like a re-hash of previous stories, they point out that Bent hasn't really fit in at Spurs despite being their top scorer last season with 17 and they also again link Downing to Liverpool and Spurs also.

The Daily Express say that Motherwell are after 22-year-old Sam Williams for a season long loan.

One we can rule out is the Ashley Young to Manchester United links as Sir Chewalot isn't signing anyone else! http://www.astonvilla.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=7501575 Man Utd NOT After Ashley Young

The Express&Star say that Zat Knight might be 'offloaded' by the end of this week, with Bolton looking the most likely destination BUT ONLY if we are able to bring in players first. The report claims he is rated at just £2.5million, done from £3million in last weeks press talk... what has he done for his value to fall so much recently!??! lol Why would we be looking to sell the £3.5million signing from Fulham?

The Express&Star also claim that we have our sights set on Newcastle defender Sebastien Bassong, Portsmouth's Sylvain Distin and / or West Ham's Matthew Upson all of whom have been linked several times in the press.

Oh and looking a bit more, the Mirror have raised Zat's price to £4million but also claim that he has been told he can leave and that MON is looking for two new defenders to come in!

The German U21 and Werder Bremen player Mesut Ozil is again being linked. I don't like this 'in the know' talk but did have a conversation over the weekend suggesting there might be something in this one. If you remember we were linked recently with a £12million bid ... the report suggested we'd step up our interest having had a £6m bid for Delph rejected.

The player has 15 U21 caps (and 4 goals) + 1 senior team cap.

One linked that might get away? Former Chelsea and Bolton midfielder, according to some reports, might be joining West Ham for a season long loan from Barcelona as Gianfranco Zola looks to put down his mark at Upton Park.

The links to Zat leaving seem to totally contradict his quotes today about pushing to be the man to replace Laursen!? Click Here

I reckon Eidur is a cert to link up with Zola - if he comes to England it will be West Ham - no doubt.

£7m for a League One player is way too much. I'd prefer Ozil over Delph any day.

I presume I am like most other fans with the craving for a signing asap. Has anyone seen Veloso play? Personally Ive not heard of him but would welcome anyone at the moment hehe. On another note, was anyone at the Former Villa Players game against Bewdley town the other week?
