Monday's Aston Villa Press Transfer Talk
Not a great deal going on today gossip wise.
The Daily Mail repeat the weekend reports that Villa are set to talk terms with England and Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing.
Also in the Daily Mail, they carry another report yet again linking defender Zat Knight with a move to Wolves or Bolton. The brief snippet says the player is set to have talks with Bolton boss Gary Megson and that Wolves will try to match the offer... which the press are saying is around £3million for the 29-year-old.
Can we really see another exit being allowed?
West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola has hinted to Sky Sports News that he, amongst others, could well be interested in Barcelona and former Chelsea and Bolton striker Eidur Gudjohnsen who has been linked to Villa several times. Zola said: 'Eidur is certainly a very good player. I am sure West Ham are not the only team who are looking for a good player like him.'
The Birmingham Mail repeats the link to Spurs striker Darren Bent after Sunderland's interest in the player has apparently diminished. The Metro also says we'll challenge Sunderland and Blackburn for the player BUT say that Spurs would like John Carew as part of any deal, a sticking point for Villa who don't want to sell the Norwegian international.
According to The Times Leeds have set a price of £8million for 19-year-old midfielder Fabian Delph. It has been claimed in several papers over the last few days that Villa have had a £6million bid turned down. Spurs and Fulham are also linked.
Sky Sports are repeating the link to 23-year-old Portugal international and Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso who was apparently watched by Villa scouts in Lisbon's friendly v Nottingham Forest. Bolton are also said to be interested.
The Boro Evening Gazette again claim Villa will step up their interest in Middlesbrough playmaker Tuncay as part of Villa's summer 'spending spree'.

Same old, same old. Downing will not be fit until October at the earliest and he wont be match fit either. Why the hell would MON even consider letting Young go to Spurs if this is the case? Infact why would he even consider letting him go anywhere for that matter?

This is getting a bit silly now. Everyone (as in clubs) seem to be sitting and waiting for something to happen to get the market started. Compared to the amount of specualtion flying around the press, this has to be the slowest window the prem has seen in a while. Why can't we be the ones to get it started!!!

was just listening to alex ferguson (on SSN) and he said the reason he is NOT spending any more money this window is because of ridiculous inflation of transfer fees and hes right it seems like most players value has nearly doubled since Man u sold ronaldo to madrid as everyone now uses that as a benchmark lets hope we can find some great bargains with bags of quality otherwise we will have to overpay and then some

According to Sky Sports Sol Campbell's agent is saying that he will make a descision when he is ready on a move. They reckon Aston Villa, Everton, Basle, St Etienne and Atromitos believed to be in the running. I think that pretty much means he's Villa bound. I hope anyway. Good catch for nowt.

Get it started PBAVFC? I believe I'm correct in saying that we are the only premiership outfit who hasn't as yet made even one solitary signing. Everyone else has started, while we seemingly continue to twiddle our thumbs. Actually I dont doubt that MON is working on bringing the much needed new faces into the club, but even without offloading or losing anymore of the current squad, we're going to need at least five or six quality additions to ensure we finish top eight. Lot of work to do in the six/seven weeks or so until the window closes. Seems like a lot of time, but the way we conduct our dealings, we all know it isn't.
