Aston Villa Summer Transfer Thread Pt 4
Part four of the summer long torture thread. Sorry, did I say torture, I meant TRANSFER thread. Last summer we filled about 10 or 11 of these up with article comments so lets see if we can't out do ourselves and maybe this time we'll all end up happy and positive with the incoming and outgoing players!?
So basically use this thread as you wish, who have you seen linked, who would you like in, which linked players would be good, bad or just plain ugly?

Just like they did with the badge, get a load of Villa fans in to discuss what players they want, how they would fit into the team and if the fans would approve, give them selected fans an insight into the wage structure, what we have to spend etc etc, and actually work on it with MON, Once we have the players do what MON does best and bring the best out of the players we have brought in and perhaps just perhaps the fans will be happy, the club will be moving forward and we won't be slipping down the table next season......maybe.

at a variable cost (agents fee, club fee, pipesupplier fees etc) martin oniell will be able to source the best players from across the world and have them deliverd through the player pipes, stragight into the dressing room all in time for the opener against wigan (should be enough time).he also said this technology is available to all clubs.

And any new signings we do get if they have a bad run he will be like oh they had no pre season......who the bloody hells fault was that !! here's another joke............................club anouncement tomorrow to state that the all awaited "pipework" is in place and it just needs to be tested! The "pipe' has signed a forty year contract subject to a firm council medical. Other "pipes"were considered but MON got in too late and so we had to get the "secondhand pipework" from small heath! It'll work fine for a season but then go downhill from there! Oh I could go on forever with this but would dearly love to talk about other "connections" at VP! C'mon MON sort it and quick please.

Looks like Downing will sign this week, good signing we need a left footer to balance the midfield, could play centre mid as well, reports from Bill Howell is we are after Bent, think he would be a good signing also, would also like Naughton, Upson, sell Knight and replace with Richards, Bentley, Tuncay and Defour, however i think thats unlikely cos it would cost 60- 70 mil, but with those players i believe we could make 4th place and maybe win a cup.

There are the odd exception - Gazza, Gerrard etc. where in a few games they just run it. But O'Neill will be worth millions of pound worth of talent on the pitch. Would do with a few other players worth millions tho!!

Well im bored at work so here is my opinion on what we should do, first of all i think we a 25 man squad to compete on all fronts, we need 3 goalkeepers, Friedal, Guzan and 1 other, a youth player maybe, 2 rightbacks Young, Naughton, 2 left backs, Bouma, Shorey, 4 center halves, Davies, Culler, Upson, Distin/Knight, 2 right mids Bentley Milner, 2 left mids Young Downing 6 center mids Garder, Sidwell, Reo Coker, Petrov, Delph, Defour, 5 forwards Carew, Gabby, Heskey, Bent and Tuncay. 9 players in with Barry Laursen Harewood Salifoooooooo and maybe Knight out. Osbourne Bannan Delfounso out on loan. Think that would mean 75 Mil spend with 15 back. Sorry to bore u just my thoughts on what we need to compete.

Huntelaar is going to Stuttgart, and MON is upping his bid for delph. I reckon Bent is not worth more than 8m but Spurs want 16m which is a joke.
I agree with astonsteve, except upson wouldbe hard to pry from the hammers. I hope we get defour but hes not english and his club want like 15m for him. Thats 2 things MON doesnt go with (big price tag and foreigners)

Sadly yes evoflash, it has. Talk of a possible serious move for David Bentley earlier this summer excited me. Should have known that it was probably way too good a rumour to be true. Now we have talk of possible interest in Darren Bent, and that I'm afraid just leaves me cold. Oh well, no matter who we finally manage to land, our duty is to turn up and cheer each and every one of the lads to the hilt, giving them our full support. That I will most certainly do, but Darren Bent, oh dear!

This is frustrating now, when are we going to see players arrive?, what makes it worse is when MON says stay calm, we have been through this when Ellis was at the helm and we find the current situation far to similar to the past. I want 2 big signings by the weekend!!! Wish full thinking, I think!!!

Lol deano - thank Paul McGrath for that!! I have to disagree Glensider, I think Bent would be a great signing for us. He has under achieved of recent but still bagged 17 (I think?) goals last season. Did wonders at Charlton a few yrs ago with next to no supply. He has the talent, he just needs to use it. Lol deano - thank Paul McGrath for that!! I have to disagree Glensider, I think Bent would be a great signing for us. He has under achieved of recent but still bagged 17 (I think?) goals last season. Did wonders at Charlton a few yrs ago with next to no supply. He has the talent, he just needs to use it. I can only believe that this sort of thing is made up by Tottenham themselves trying to get more money out of anyone who wants to pay. My guess is that this will be our last midfield signing this window. Sidwell will start in the middle in Barry's place and then Downing will step in when fit. The good thing about downing is that he can play on the wing when we need to rest Young. I think there was 1 game when downing played in the middle and he got a hat trick

Do not agree, Sidwell is not in Barry mold. IMHO would prefer that Petrov is moved forward and Reo-Coker is played in his proper position as hoding midfiled. he is not a a RB or Right Mid Field. I get so frustrated when M O'N plays people out of position. Petrov is a much better passer than Sidwell. Last season his passing range was restricted by his position. make him captain and his confidence will be higher than it is now and his worth to the Villa will be immeasurable and we will all be saying Gareth who????

Ashley is going nowhere! Downing will eventually slot in and be a very good addition. I wonder if MON is going to surprise everyone and sign Zaki or Martens - ideally it would be Huntelaar! Bent is my choice out of POSSIBLE strikers....Ashton is far too injury prone, but Bent is a good mixture of pace and power and with a little helping of confidence and a decent run he could be very good again - BIG IF though. Good time to go and get another midfielder from Real Madrid though...roll on Lassana Diarra! or VDV!

We have matched our transfer record with a quality young signing and the possibilities are very exciting - his signing puts every one of our front 6 players nervous about their position - who is he replacing?? We can play 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 etc. easily and we will be a fluid attacking force. Oh and another thing - HE IS ONLY OUR FIRST SIGNING!! Honestly, we have a great squad growing - yes a bit of quality is needed but we are on the right tracks and a few links like Bent, Delph etc. will add to it significantly!! Did not say he was a replacement - Cuellar and Davies were bought as they would have been needed - we couldnt rely on Laursen playing every game so needed to quality centre-backs as well. WE STILL HAVE THEM! Adding Knight and Distin means that we dont have a bad quartet!!! Laursen is the best defender we have had since McGrath and in my opinion was the only world-class player we have had since Yorke. He was immense but we will not be able to replace him - so what do we have Cuellar and Davies - certainly good enough!! Hangeland would be awesome but are Upson etc. really much better?? Other than Hangelaand (or City bound Lescott) I cant see us doing better!

I have a feeling if Crouch goes to Spurs it will start it! If they want Naughton, Huntelaar or any other signings they will have to sell!! Either that or when Hughes decides to get rid of unneeded players. Either way we should be in for Michael Johnson, Richards, Onouha, Bent, Jenas, Hutton (if Naughton chooses Spurs we should get him) and.....in my opinion anyway....Benjani. Stumbling block would be Arry's crazy prices but should be around 5-7 mil at most. We do still need to see these other targets snapped up MON so please do it and do it now! please.

really thought we would have a few more signings this week but cant see it happening tomorrow when the guys fly off to spain and would be surprised to see any incomings whilst the team are out there on another note the young lads like bannan and albrighton etc look like they may be ready to play there part this year. more signings please UTV

Who knows he (MON) may have said to someone who is a bit wet behind the ears "now you know where I am if you need me and here's some money so don't spend it all at once! also no parties whilst I am away!". We're one of the smallest squads in the league - and it got smaller by two first team players. Meanwhile we've signed a player who isn't fit until Christmas time, and that's it. Two friendlies down, few more to come then it's Wigan on August 15th. That's in 22 days time. I've got such a bad feeling about the coming season. I feel we're so under-prepared it's not funny anymore. Maybe I'm getting caught up in the 'hype' (about nothing).

I remember in the past few windows the official site kept a note of EVERY player we had been linked with. I think that if we saw that now there would be few Laursen replacements better than Davies/Cuellar (other than Hangelaand) and I certainly think there is no-one better than Sidwell to take over from Barry. The Reading-Sidwell was much better than Jenas, Huddlestone etc. Our first XI may suffer but it is a squad game. At the same time however, NRC, Sidwell and loads more could have played many many more games than they did last year so is it numbers we need?? I dont think so! Maybe just better links are needed that can go straight into the first XI. But im not seeing them with the typical Premiership players we are linked with. For this reason unless we are going to break the £10-15m mark for every player we buy, maybe looking abroad is much better. How good can Moutino, Veloso, Defour be?? Im sure its worth the risk!

The year before that they tried to sign him and were quoted £5M. £5M over 3 years is £32K pw before wages. 12 months later add £18K pw you have a quality player only 28/29 years old on £50K for the same price. BTW he will get a lump sum generally 10% of the contract each year as a signing on fee.
We are asking him to move (to the greatest team in the world admitedly to us) on probably less salary and to up sticks 140+ miles up the road would you.
And at the end of the day rent a gob/quote is usually correct.
