Mike Field: Stiliyan Petrov has said next season will be an important one for the club, as they aim to pick up some silverware. Speaking on the official site, in what could potentially be the backfire interview of the new season, Petrov insists we will be in the hunt for a trophy in the coming campaign and that we'll end our, what is it, 13 years without a Cup to celebrate? 'This club wants to move forward every single year. I hope season will be even more successful than the one just gone. Full article: Petrov Wants A Medal

Steve Wade: Football 101 - learning to lose against the Germans.

No doubt there were a few elderly Germans poking each other in the ribs this week and muttering such as, 'Gott strafe England', after their boys gave England's U21's a sound thrashing in the final of the U21-Euros. Full article: Something For The Weekend (242)

Tickets for Villa's first game of the season against Wigan are now on sale to season ticket holders. The Villa Park match takes place on Saturday August 15, with a 3pm kick-off. Full details: Villa v Wigan Tickets Now On Sale

Ashley Young has told the official site he is gunning for double figures in the goal scoring area next season: 'It would be brilliant to get into double figures but as long as I'm doing my job and creating chances for others, I'm happy. Obviously if I'm scoring goals it's even better, but I don't set myself any targets.

Nicky Shorey has told the official site that former Reading and Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell is the man to watch for Villa fans next season. He said: 'I don't think we have seen the best of him yet. Last season was a strange one for Siddy, he was out injured for long periods and picked up niggles here and there.' Adding, 'Hopefully he will have a good pre-season and then we'll see the best of him and I think everyone will be impressed with how well he can do. Siddy just keeps on going. He'll be fine. There's no worries on that count. He can play in a three or a two - that's what he's done in the past. He's just an all round good midfielder and I'm sure he'll show that before too long.'

Vital Villa asked, following the comments last week on Michael Owen and Gabby Agbonlahor ... I don't know if it is the heat or what but I'm boring myself here... is this what you lot have to put up with all the time?!??! (Don't answer that, I have a delicate nature!) Where was I? Oh yes, the poll asked: Owen v Gabby? Sadly not in a fight off, that would have been more fun! Anyway, 58% voted that we need both of them. Must admit I'd have thought Gabby, at just 22, could learn a lot from Owen who has a wealth of experience and when fit is still amongst the best in the world surely? 18% aren't convinced by either of them and 17% voted that Gabby was much better. That left 7% saying Owen was much better

Mike Field: Wilfred Bouma has one burning desire as we head into the new season...get that claret and blue shirt back on his back and hear the roar of the B6 crowd. Speaking on the official site Bouma explained that he can't wait to repay the faith shown in him by the club and the fans during his spell out injured. Full article: Bouma's New Season Resolution
