'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Magic Merse A Fan Of Our Young Guns

Paul Merson has said to the official site that Gabby and Ash especially, are the reason why Villa are such an exciting and entertaining team to watch in the Premiership these days.

Claiming boldly that the two players have transformed the appeal of the team does seem a stretch too far given our end of season form, but you can see the point he is making when we have both players on form and flying on all cylinders.

'Gabby and Ashley are both so exciting to watch. They were a huge part in the success last season.

'Gabby will get better and better, as for Ashley, I can't speak highly enough of him.'

As for the future Merson fully expects Ashley Young to figure in Capello's World Cup plans, saying:

'He's different class, I think he should be a regular with England.

'What I love about him is he runs with pace and then slows down and delivers a good cross.'

Being honest, with you factor in consistency I'm not sure Gabby or Ash are ready for an England berth yet.

Ash has showed signs he's more than capable of making the left wing spot his own, and in his recent appearance we saw the spark of the form we all know he can produce.

But to be a regular his consistency and delivery needs to improve first.

There are no doubts the talent is ther, but it's been a hard season for him so hopefully he'll prove his England credentials when he returns from the summer break.

A little unfair to just single out those two, when Milner had a good season too.
