The Villa Times - 17/06/2009

Unoial Villa News...

Martin O'Neill has talked to the official site about the fixtures and is happy that we kick off our campaign against Wigan at home. MON said: 'I am always delighted to be at home - regardless of who it is. But it will be interesting because it's Wigan and they have a new manager who has been very impressive at Swansea. I think he will probably want to make a few changes in personnel so there's a chance we'll be playing a very different side on that opening day.'

MON also says of the fixtures: 'The second fixture at West Ham will not happen as we're involved in the Europa League.' So there you go, second game of the season and the first change to fixtures!

The launch takes place this weekend, and the club have invited a host of former 'capped' stars to turn out for the occassion. Little won League Cup medals with the Villa in 1975 and 1977 and rejoined as manager way back in 1994, where under his stewardship he added a third League Cup winners medal in 1996. Little will be in the Villa Store on Sunday between 12pm and 2pm whilst Gordon Cowans, Tony Morley and Tony Daley will be in attendance on Saturday. The Daily Star today claim that may be after Real Madrid left-back Royston Drenthe. Name sound familiar? Well, it should, we were strongly linked with him when he was at Feyenoord. Vital Villan: Well after yesterday's revelations that David Bentley was in talks with Villa, according to reports late last night the club and his agent have denied these discussions? Full details and dissection! It's Not Good To Talk

Martin O'Neill has justified the record fee of £12million being paid for former Newcastle winger James Milner. The Villa boss said: 'James came in here for a big fee but he was not affected - not at all. He settled in very quickly and I am sure James would be the first one to say 'you paid it, not me'. But to me anyway he justified the fee' He also says that some players do 'crumble' when huge fees have been paid but adds that James was 'first class.' Not sure it needs justifying really, I think he's a great signing!?

Thought for the day: CAR thieves: Don't be discouraged when nothing is on view. All the valuables may be hidden in the glove box or under a seat.
