Saturday's Aston Villa Press Talk... PAH!

Ok, so we've covered a very tenuous link to David Beckham: David Beckham To Villa - Rumour! Lets see what other excitement we have for today, apart from the fact I've not had a cup of tea or any breakfast yet...

Villa and former Fulham defender Zat Knight is again being linked to a move across the city as reports suggest he is a £5million target for Blues boss Alex McLeish. As a Villa fan I can't really see Zat wanting to make that move, can you?

Have the Daily Mailtaken leave of their senses?! They claim that Tottenham Hotspur want John Carew who was linked recently with money bags Manchester City, and are - wait for it - prepared to use midfielder Jermaine Jenas as part of the bait. They claim that Villa want Jenas but we value the England midfielder at around £6million and Spurs want £10million.

According to The Mirror Hull City are in talks with Marlon Harewood for a £2million move following the stalling of his career since his £4million move from West Ham to Villa. The 29-year-old is 'desperate' to leave Villa Park in order to get back to ... well, playing basically! They quote a 'source' close to the player as saying: 'Marlon still feels he can do a good job in the Premier League.' He has also been linked to Middlesbrough but those reports at the moment appear wide of the mark.

Or do they?

A report by Gareth Bebb in the Express claims Harewood, who in that paper is a year older at 30 than in the Mirror. I can exclusively reveal.... Harewood's date of birth is: 25/08/1979 so top marks to the Mirror and a black mark in the book for The Express... glad we've sorted that one! Sorry, where was I?

Oh yes, MON is willing to let Harewood go to Boro in part of the deal to bring England U21 defender David Wheater to Villa in an £8million deal. Oh come on The Express, this has already been done. Boring! Next....!

Oh not Spurs again!? This time Appy Arry apparently wants 23-year-old Ashley Young and the Sun say would let us have David Bentley and Jermain Jenas in a swap deal.
The paper claim this is a £20million deal and that they'd be willing to pay Young £55 000 a week. Come off it, he is probably not far off that at Villa and any club taking him would surely have to pay him mad money? Funny how £55k isn't viewed as mad money now isn't it?!?! I could see him being tempted by a top four club with Champions League next season, but sorry, this link is daft at best and contemptuous at worst!

And that I believe, is that for today.

Bit of a thumbs down day (again) for rumours, we don't want players outgoing.

Aaaaah! There is something supremely masocistic about us Villa fans, we keep logging into all the websites, that are printing total rubbish, in the vain hope that there will be some positive news and not more and more about Barry, he's gone and is old news, or Appy Arry who is just bad, stupid news (he seems to have a fixation about Villa players). How can these so called reporters dream up such tripe? Villa are not in the business of selling their best players (well, GB is the exception and he would have gone for now't next year, regardless of his protestations) But, sometime in the near future there will be some good news, won't there?

I think 5mil for Zat would be a bargain as he is just a bench warmer. I do like him and thought he had a good run when he scored against arsenal, but i think we need to develop our defence further and let him move in. Good pro though as he has waited and bided his time without complaint.

I think zat can still do a job for us, good quality back up who if he concentrated a full 90 mins on a consistent basis would be great for a future squad/team player. Dont think we should off load any defenders until we have sorted out laursen's 'replacement'. Im a bit baffled by arry's suposed interest in ashley..if there is any truth in it I think he just paved the way for jenas, bentley and huddlestone to leave, who i would welcome into our squad-but im sorry spuds fans..our ashley wont swap what he has here at villa for the car lot style management arry implements so we'll just take those them off you and let mart do his magic-another example of stifled promising england players spurs style...

I agree, but i think in a way, we should aim for one really great signing just to boost our squad, bring some real solidity or flair. Who does anyone think would be the best signing we could realistically make?
