Guzan Happy To Continue The Tradition

I hate the summer. Brad Guzan has said he's happy to continue flying the flag of successful American goalkeepers in the Premiership.

Speaking on the official site, Guzan explains he has no idea why American goalkeepers seem to be so successful in England but as he's said many a time since joining us he's been more than happy to follow in the footsteps of Keller, Howard, Hahnemann and rival for the No 1 shirt, Friedel.

'I've been asked the question a few times and I'm not quite sure. I don't know whether it is down to the sports you grow up as a young kid playing in the US, with the hand-eye coordination.

'There are aspects of baseball, basketball and American football that perhaps you don't think about. To put your finger on one little thing, I don't think I can.

'But there has been a line of American goalkeepers that have done pretty well in this league.'

Next season is certainly very important for Guzan as if he intends on being successful at Villa he has to make inroads into the first team and when called upon and given a chance he has to show more than he has done so far. Being safe and steady is one thing, but Premiership goalkeepers of note have more of a presence around them.

Think comment about him "showing more than he has so" far is a little bit unfair. He has done nothing wrong when called upon and has made some excellent stops. Have to take into account that he was playing behind our sometimes circus like defence, which never helps!!!
