Emile Heskey has said he would welcome Michael Owen at Villa Park with open arms should a move come off.
Speaking to Setanta Sports News Heskey reacted well to the possibility of being teamed up with his former England strike partner.
With Owen out of contract in the summer, it's a given he will be leaving Newcastle as I doubt with his injury record he will fancy his chances in the Championship - not least as he will still hope he can play his way into contention for what would be his final World Cup campaign.
It's also no secret that Owen values the work that Heskey does and has previously commented that without the work ethic of Heskey he would not have found the net on so many ocassions.
Heskey himself said:
"It would be nice.
"Obviously Michael is a great player, he has shown that on many occasions. He has been knocked and he has always got back up and performed."
Even without a transfer fee, Owen will need to take a significant pay cut from the astronomical sum he is on at Newcastle regardless of where he moves.
Allowing for the fact that all the reported clubs are interested, it seems Everton have been ruled out due to the players Liverpool ties, leaving Villa and Heskey or potentially Roma.
For Owen's train of thought, would a spell in Italian football do him more good than getting back on track in the Premier League with a player he knows he can work very well with.
The very same Heskey that has just bagged his own 7th goal for England despite seemingly being unable to work with any of the strikers at this club.
Manager Tim Sherwood has spoken of his disappointment - and shouldered the blame - for today's one nil loss to Stoke City.
