NEWSFLASH: Barry in Man City Talks

The official club website have announced that Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry is in talks with Manchester City.

The official site have announced that Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry is in talks with Manchester City.

In a simple, one-line statement on avfc.co.uk, it states:

'Aston Villa can confirm today that Gareth Barry is in talks with Manchester City.'

Ambitions of the Champions League seem to have fallen by the way side for now as our captain travels to Eastlands to discuss terms with a club not even competing in Europe next season.

More as we get it.

I could forgive Gaz Baz for leaving us in order to try his luck in the CL, but I'd be highly disappointed if he left us to ply his trade at Man City who, as reported above, aren't even competing in Europe next season. Still, they're just talking at this stage so I'll hold fire until something a bit more concrete is reported...

Looks like Man City are going to break several banks this summer and going to do a Chelski!!! At least this will be done at the very start so we won't be umming and ahhing as to whether we need to replace him. And we should get well over the 10 mil that the Scousers will offer. Maybe Sturridge, and or Richards in part exchange!!!!

If the club have accepted a bid for him, what is Barry supposed to do? I don't believe he wants to leave but what option does he have? I also think if the reported 12mill is correct, we can get a younger, better player in Steven Defour.

If we get an extra couple of million then its a goo deal for the club but after him saying its not about the money last year and saying he only wanted CL football i think a lot of fans will be dissapointed in him. I would love us to sign a younger more creative player in his place like Defour if he does go, it could give us the extra dimension we lacked last season.

Considering Randy's comments the other day about how he'd rather let Barry leave for free at the end of his contract rather than sell him now, you can't help but think that Man Citeh must've offered some pretty serious wedge in order to get permission to talk to Barry. Maybe the paper talk about them claiming that they'd sign Tevez and Baz in a 42m deal had something about it after all....

Its the `I WANT A BIG PAY DEAL BEFORE IM TOO OLD` scenario. Players always see the green of the money rather than the real story. Feck off to Man City, Hughes will be sacked next season, they will bring in another foreign coach, who doesnt even know who Gareth Barry is and he will fade into obscurity, like all the other money grabbing ****s!!!! Fecking makes my blood boil when they say and do things like this. But and selling to our rivals too, oh I see money is more important than league finish!!!! Where for us next year 7th, 8th 10th, we better sign a replacement that is Younger and Hungrier than the Grabbing ********o!!!!!!!

Mark Hughes is doing what MON should do and getting decent world class signings in early to show a statement of intent, which will then entice other decent players in. One of the reasons that GB wants to go is the p155ing about that MON does in these windows. We will get a replacement on the final day and have saved a poxy 500k in fees and lost our 3 first choice replacements in the process because another team hasn't wasted time. MAKE OR BREAK NOW MON

We could be calling his bluff and see if Barry wants to really leave just for cash City or hold out for the Arse or Scoucers to offer us a better deal. 2 comments:- 1) I hope to high heaven that this means MON has some signings lined up or we will be right up the proverbial creek if he's planning on his usual last 48 hours job. 2)Kaka was in talks with them last season. I'll add a 3rd point, more of a question really:-Does this speak for Barry's lack of faith in MON/Villa to push on or does it, if he moves, just speak for his wish for a big pay day?

Not fair to blame this on Randy though, he has left all squad and transfer dealings to MON, both Randy, MON and the General for that matter have said this several times. Randy can only say what HE is willing to do not what MON WILL do. He trusts MON and will fail or succeed according to that trust. The good thing about this approach is that MON has rto be 100 % responsible for all team matters and their outcomes. The bad thing is that MON is a useless twonk in the transfer market - or at least has been so far. Prove me wrong Martin.

It's always gutting when this happens, especially for a 'sideways' move, however form his point of view you've got to consider 1) he's not got that long left so can he turn down the zillions on offer and 2) of the chasing teams city are most likely of the chasing teams to break into the CL in the near future. Disappointing but not surprising in modern football

It lokks like he is off somewhere....as a aclub getting the best price possible for a player approaching 30 with a year left on contract is the priority. 12m has been mentioned, good deal, city get a very good player, we lose a player who either we don't really want or doesn't really want us. Onwards and upwards, no player is bigger than the club and 12m now is better than finishing 6/7 next year and him going for nothing.

I have to say viewing this as an outsider, this is shocking. I thought he would force a move to Liverpool, possibly, but join Man City? WTF?! I think he has just lost alot of respect in the footballing world. Footballing desires are an aspect but leaving a club so close to CL football as yours is to join Man City, who achieved what? Mid-table mediocrity... And state his want for leaving as CL football is disgraceful. Another case of money tainting our great game, will any of you accept him after this, if the deal falls through?

Citeh have got more money than everyone else put together and make Abramovich look like he's homeless, and Yid form India, thanks for letting us know about the Europa League, we don't know much over here ;-D and I'm sure that you wouldn't be saying that if you managed to qualify.

Villan444, i am not trying to have a go at villa. We have managed to Qualify for Europe for 4 back to back Seasons and i can tell you it aint anything special. A lot of spurs fans hoped that we would not qualify this year as we can finally Concentrate on the league. I am just making the point that The Uefa cup is not a reason for a player to stop moving or consider the move as a Step down. All i am saying is that the Fact that you are in Europe and City are not aint have made a difference to Barry or Any player's thinking.

Well I'd much rather have the 12m and go and buy a younger, quicker player who will be around for the next 5 years than go through the same drawn out summer we had last year and at best keep him for next season and lose him for nothing next summer. Have to say that 12m is probably about twice as much as I thought we'd get for him with 12 months on his contract so an excellent bit of business for the club!! That said, it proves that it was never about CL for GB, show him the money!! show him the money!!!

I confess to some amazement that you Villains seem prepared to sell him. His ACTIM stats make him your best player, and Gareth scored more ACTIM points than any City player last season. If we can get him it will be a major coup for Hughes. All I can say is O'Neill had better have a damn good replacement lined up.

Thought he wasn't going to make a decision until after the England internationals - so this whole saga could continue for another 2 weeks. Either way this whole saga that's dragged on since the Big Bang will come to an end. Anyway, we all knew that we'd be here this summer, so since last years debacle, who has MON earmarked to replace GB and how good exactly is this Defour fella everyone keeps banging on about, or will we see Guzan playing in centre mid next term. All in all we should have prepared for this situation, and if we have, I for one will be glad to see the end of this lunacy!

Not all Spuz fans are Jewish HuddersfieldYiddo you feckwit. I just hate most Spuz fans on the vital network and 'Arry, but have several jewish friends and 5 good friends who are Spuz fans, 2 of which have season tickets and I'm sure have been to many more games than you seeing they are mid 40's and they live and breathe football knowing more than whats inside the four walls of WHL . Its just the Spuz youth of today who seem to have been born with 2 arse holes rather than one and a mouth are everywhere talking like they know what they're on about when they clearly don't. You are an embarrassment on the rest of your fellow supporters and I am very offended that you would refer to me as anti-semetic just because I enter into banter with you school kids. So guys if GB stays one more season and leaves for nothing the year after to one of the Top 4 will you be happier??? There is no gaurentee if he stays that we will even get a top 4 spot. i personally would rather he leave for 12mil and then we get a good replacement. you know this could start a serious debate but i think GB looks so good because some off our other players are just average.

Had a bit of time to think about it and I am still furious - the one good thing about it is that it is Man City and not Liverpool. We really need to keep looking forward and this move will make it easier for us to break the top4 as he is not playing for them. Yes City will improve but they were always going to werent they....if not Barry it will be Alonso or another top top player!!

If he goes to City he's just a money grabbing ***** and no loss to the club anyway, since he would clearly go to whoeever offered him the most next summer. At least this way you get 12-15 million or however much the fee is. City were 22 points off a CL spot this season, so it clearly shows it was never about that for him.

Villan444 - Supporting another club does not mean you know little about others, and nor does it mean we know nothing because of our age! As to be honest I probably have a greater, wider knowledge of world football than the average fan, but was born in 91... Or is that an evident impossibilty because I am both, young and a Spurs fan?

You have been on Vital Spurs all season slating us because of our poor start and completely hating on everybody on our site including calling us Yidscum Yidiots and so on. Or look at it the other way. Barry promised to give us another 12 months to reach the Chumps League. In that 12 months he saw nothing change, he saw us throw the UEFA Cup, he saw us sign Heskey as a means to keeping ourselves in the Top 4 and he saw almost everybody play regularly in different positions not withstanding performances, tactics, Plan B. Man C will spend and spend huge this window to challenge, he gave MON the promise of another 12 months to show the ambition he talked about. Liverpool haven't made their move yet and on the balance of probabilities who is confident that we will improve enough in the window to make a stable challenge compared to Man City. For that reason he's talking to them, and possibly signing. He wants Chumps League, Man City are a bloody good bet for it in my opinion. He kept his end of the bargain, good luck Gareth.
