Unoial Villa News...
Vital Villan Not sure if this is an old rehash as the quotes do look familiar, but it seems Nicky Shorey is no nearer knowing whether he will be at the club next season. Have to be honest, I'm not sure I buy into this uncertain future business. O'Neill selected him for the final few games and Shorey started slowly to show the form we expected from him. The story seems to have more legs following the Fulham substitution where Shorey could be clearly seen to echo most of the comments from the fans to be honest when we see fullbacks taken off for strikers, but if that was going to play any part in whether he will be here next season O'Neill would've dropped him and played Heskey instead. Well, well, Randy Lerner has been a busy man in the press recently! The last quotes suggest he sees Martin O'Neill as our long term manager and says he can see no reason why the manager would need to move on. Full quotes: Randy Says Martin O'Neill Is For Keeps
Vital Villan Tony McAndrew believes that James Collins has all the potential to make next season the year he becomes a household name. The young striker is part of a dying breed as McAndrew describes him as your typical old school centre forward. But this season hasn't been too bad for the lad if you consider him a dinosaur in the modern game. The Republic of Ireland U19 has put the ball in the back of the net 28 times for our U18 team and found the net 3 times when called up to the reserves, including one goal in the recent Play Off final against Sunderland. Our reserve team guru thinks that Collins isn't far off first team action as long as he keeps developing the way he has done this season. Full article: McAndrew Selects Our Next Young Gun
Steve Wade: Post-orgasmic bliss, or a pain in the pipe? Although Villa were handed the privilege, nay, duty, of relegating Newcastle last week, it seemed rather annoying that the gods decided to add to the Toon's misery by letting them score the own-goal which sent them down, rather than allowing Villa to convert the four or five decent chances, which they carved out, while the team in striped pyjamas, had a little snooze in the second-half. All in all, it was very much a qualified pleasure. But pleasure it was. Full article: Something For The Weekend (238)
