Barry, Young & Heskey In England Squad

Barry, Young & Heskey In England Squad

Villa have had three players called up to the England squad with Fabio Capello attending Villa Park today alongside Stuart Pearce to see our last game of the season v Newcastle United.

Hopefully to remain Villa midfielder Gareth Barry has been called up. He needs to think long and hard before moving to Liverpool to become a utility player, left back or left back on the bench because it could ruin his chances of making the World Cup?

Also called up were Ashley Young and bizarrely our striker who doesn't actually score Emile Heskey.

They are all in contention the World Cup qualification games against Kazakhstan (Saturday June 6) and Andorra (Wednesday June 10).

The full squad:

Scott Carson (West Bromwich Albion), Robert Green (West Ham United), Paul Robinson (Blackburn Rovers), Wayne Bridge (Manchester City), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Portsmouth), Joleon Lescott (Everton), Gary Neville (Manchester United), John Terry (Chelsea), Matthew Upson (West Ham United), Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), David Beckham (AC Milan loan from LA Galaxy), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Manchester City), Ashley Young (Aston Villa), Carlton Cole (West Ham United), Peter Crouch (Portsmouth), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham Hotspur), Emile Heskey (Aston Villa), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).

Good to see Ashley in there. I sincerely hope that Gabby would have been in as well were he not available for the under 21's. Having said that, Gab needs a nice long holiday. He more than anyone else has suffered under the workload. Let's hope he doesn't play quite as much next season - and hope even more that it's not Heskey who picks up the slack!

On Barry, I've just read that Bill Howell understands he's not too keen to go to Liverpool because they won't play him in the middle. However, with it being widely reported that Alonso will hand in a transfer request (and one can understand why giving the treatment he got last summer), surely they would be signing Barry as a direct replacement - just as it seems was the plan last summer. I'm afraid that whoever Barry ends up with, he will be integral to that clubs plans because he is top quality. There is simply no basis to this idea that his England place is in jeopardy should he depart B6.

Good to see Ashley back in the fold. Hope and trust he gets the opportunity to prove what he can do, and that he does himself justice.

Are Gabby and Milner eligible for the U21 squad? and anyone know when it's announced? and how the hell does Neville get in ahead of L Young?
