John Carew To Become A Citizen?

Sky Sports are claiming that Manchester City boss Mark Hughes (who has just been told his job is secure by the Citeh owners) is turning his attention to Villa striker John Carew.

Madness?

Well he was linked to them in January as well and although nothing came of it, I could see the sense and would have almost guaranteed that JC would be cleared out in the summer. However since the Ajax incident and after pulling out of the Moscow game due to fears about his back on the plastic pitch, he has reminded us all what he does best... he scores goals.

As our only striker who seems able and willing to shoot, let alone score, and with so many Villa fans taking him to their hearts as the Holte End hero, it would be a very dicey thing for Martin O'Neill to consider wouldn't it?

I guess every player has a price but to sell our top scorer - no matter how injury prone he has been, as he said recently what would he have achieved this season if not for the 20 odd games he's missed - the price would have to be massive wouldn't it? Not that massive money would put off Man City, it looks like they have enough cash floating around, but I would think that Hughes will still not want to over inflate prices?

Sky claim that Hughes is focused on Carew as his interest in Blackburn's Roque Santa Cruz has cooled.

Villa aren't a selling club are they? Think they proved last year with Barry that only silly money will part Villa with a player. Interesting link but ...... ?

Everyone, absolutely everyone of any consequence will be linked with City this summer. On the other hand, Carew would be perfect for them.

I heard this deal might be on in January, so not surprised if it does happen in the summer, so now we have Laursen to replace, how do we replace Carew and Barry too (if they go)?

i love MON but if he allows the big man to go all the fans will completely lose faith in him. Carews a legend and fans fav and our best goal scorer, his goal to games ratio this season is brilliant

Carew is idolised and should not be sold to a club like Citeh who will rival us more closely next seson. Despite his sometimes poor off field choices, he remains our most potent threat with a good goal/game ratio when he starts. We don't need to be a selling club anymore, do we?

"I love MON but if he allows the big man to go all the fans will completely lose faith in him" - this sort of comment does my head in. One stupid story in a stupid rag and people are preparing to rip the manager's head off. Have you not figured out yet that our useless rags no longer report news, they make up stories to fill their empty pages and the empty heads of their readers. IF it happens, THEN start in on the manager.

Laursen, Barry, Carew - the spine of our team. Totally irreplaceable. This story is just that - a story. Meanwhile we've been rumoured to be looking at: Bentley, Downing, Owen, Richards, Lescott, S Taylor, M Johnson, Hart, Upson, Wheater, Sonko, Doyle, Sturridge, Naughton, Ireland, Bent, Hangeland, Defour ... the list goes on, and on, and on ...

Thing is, clubs are going to be looking at our players, we need to take it as a compliment........ and hold on to them!

A complement, alright, Mr Fear, but Andy 5759 is spot on, Barry and Carew are now invaluable as the spine of the team. Bigger than me and you, and irreplaceable, too, John Carew, Carew!

Very good player, and exaqctly what we need at Eastlands. Unfortunately we already have enough strikers who are injury prone, so not sure if this is a goer or not. Perhaps we could arrange some sort of a swap deal with Darius Vassell? I'll get my coat...

When I heard we'd swapped that waste of space Baros for JC I couldn't believe it. Probably the best bit of business that MON has done aprt from Ash. This guy has got so much ability and is a real warrior on the pitch and this season he has been fantastic. We can't let a true Holte End hero go.

I'd be surprised if JC would want to leave. He has said on countless occasions now that he has never been happier at a club and his celebration when he scored the other week was a statement that he wanted to stay.

Surely not? I cant imagine for one New York minute that John Carew would want to move on from Villa Park, in fact he's often openly commented as to how happy he is here in Brummagem. This story is a mere figment of some bored reporters imagination.

Maybe of course, O'Neill had the idea of offloading Carew this summer, following the signing of Heskey back in January. Subsequent happenings though would surely have convinced Mart that the sale of Big JC is not an option? We need to be seriously looking for a strike partner to play alongside Carew, not looking to sell the guy to the highest bidder this summer.
