Villa Reserves - Champions!

Congratulations to the Villa reserves who lifted the Barclays FA Premier Reserve League title in a 3-1 win over Sunderland.

Nathan Delfouneso, James Collins and Shane Lowry scored the goals to win the play off final, which Villa lost last season against Liverpool.

Kevin MacDonald said to AVTV: 'I'm ecstatic about the lads' hard work throughout the year. I've always felt that we were a decent side over the last two years and this is the final thing for these lads. They've been together for a couple of years and we've lost one or two or gained one or two. They enjoy working with each other but they enjoy each other's success. That's a real big thing.'

He also says the lads have to 'savour' these moments and let it drive them on with the 'I want more of that' attitude.

Barry Bannan said: 'It's just brilliant to win it. We deserved it and I think we're the best bunch of lads about. I'm really happy for Kevin because the work he put in for us has been brilliant and I think we repaid that a bit tonight. We won the league but this is the main thing you want to win. We've done brilliantly to win the game.'

He also says seeing Liverpool beat them and lift the trophy last season drove them on to not allow that to happen again.

And a well deserved trophy too. They've played some decent stuff this season, and the team has included some very decent prospects over the course of the season.

PiperUK, I'm not sure what the official attendance was, but I'd say there was close to 5,000 at the game. A very decent turn-out. Could have done with a few more, but..................you know how it is.
