'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Shorey Says It's Been A 'Great' Season

Nicky Shorey has told the Express & Star that the season has been a success for Villa despite not being able to stay in the top four until the end, saying that the fact we challenged them for so long is a positive thing.

'It was a shame that we tailed off a little bit, but hopefully that experience will stand us in good stead for next season and the following seasons after that. I think it’s been a good season, no matter what. The way the lads have been has been really good.'

He also says that the time spent in the top four raised expectations so the season end seems to be a bit of a 'dampener' but he thinks it has been a 'great' season nevertheless.

He also sends a warning to Newcastle who are in danger of going down unless they beat us as he says Villa want to end the season on a high.

He also thinks he has improved this season despite the frustrating of being brought in to play at left-back only to find himself left-back-on-the-bench for must of the time. 'The whole experience of not being in the team and then being in the team is only going to stand me in good stead for my forthcoming career.'

Whether that future is at Villa or not remains to be seen, must admit I think he's looked quite good when he has been given games... then again, what do I know... DON'T answer that! :o)

It's been a fecking bizarre season for Shorey. He must be wondering what the hell happened.

Well, I guess any move for him would be to a 'lesser' side, so he wants to keep in here, especially as Europe may mean more games - if we bother to field any players at all next year of course. But with Bouma's future far from certain, money needed for other key positions, he can probably feel quite secure where he is for now.

agreed Saurat, very bizarre season. Can't see where he went wrong to be sidelined for so long really?

he was terrible in the first few games, probably deserved his chance a little earlier but we were winning so many games for a while there, it would have been hard to change the team. he has looked better since he has come back in though. good on him

I think he would be a good player for a team in the top 6 of the championship...not good enough for us IMO
