Petrov Signs On?

Petrov Signs On?

Well according to the Daily Mail in an 'exclusive' Stiliyan Petrov has this morning committed his future to Aston Villa.

There have been plenty of rumours of late about whether or not he would sign a new contract but speaking to the Mail he said:

'This is what I always wanted, and I couldn't be more pleased.'

The indications are it's a long term deal that will see him well into his 30's, but the guess would be 33 given he already has 12 months left on his previous contract.

Petrov has been a class act for most of the season, securing both the Players and the Fans Player of the Year at our recent awards dinner and finished by saying:

'I am absolutely delighted that everything has been sorted out, and I can concentrate on playing for Villa and trying to keep us in the hunt for honours.

'You can see these are exciting times at Villa Park, and there is more to come.'

There is no official word from VP or the official site yet, so I'm not going to start celebrating our first signing of the new season just yet but it was expected it would only be a matter of time over the last few days and there are no reasons in my mind to doubt it.

Hopefully more details will be announced as the day moves on and we'll get a bigger interview from our Player of the Season.

Now confirmed on the official site - 4 year deal keeping him at Villa Park until 2013.
