A Villa Fan's Amazing Race To Raise Money!

Some information on a Villa fan, Luke Corbett, who has got off his arse... for want of a better expression... and done something to help others. He has raised over £2380 so far since January 26 this year.

His aim is to run around every football pitch in an attempt to raise £10 000 for the Birmingham Children's hospital Kidney appeal.

The 20-year-old - who I met yesterday and what a thoroughly nice chap he is! - had two kidney transplant operations at the age of 3 and 10 after he was born with chronic renal failure.

He told the Birmingham Mail:

“This is really just a big thank you to all the doctors and nurses who treated me when I was diagnosed with the illness when I was born. The facilities they hope to provide at the new wing is going to be great for children and their families. I had two kidney transplant operations when I was a kid and the second one was so successful the doctors have told me that it may last until I am 50 years old. I hope the money raised will help other children who are in a similar situation to what I was.”
The Kidney Kids appeal aims to raise £1.5 million for a kidney unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

A couple of runs are taking place this May including Celtic and Rangers who are both meant to be closed but for Luke they are specifically sending a steward to open the grounds for him. He will also be doing the Blues, Wolves and Baggies.

His run at Villa was slightly up in the air but they are now allowing him to run on Saturday 16th May at 9am. He was hoping to run around at half time during the Newcastle game, so maybe that will still become a reality for him, I'm sure much like me you would all love to see him do his run and lets face it, if school kids etc can do these runs (which are always well received by home and away fans) then surely Villa can allow a true Villa fan and season ticket holder, on a mission to raise money for the Birmingham Children's hospital, to do it in front of fellow fans? Hope so! If they let him I'll personally give him a cheque for £250 on the day of the run from all of us at Vital Villa.

Thanks Jonathon it is muchly appreciated. Just had an email back from Lynne, and they can't even faciliate my request now on running at 9am on that Saturday due to having to help with the coaches!!! I copied you into an email to Lynne Atkinson regarding to your very kind donation if they manage to faciliate my request at half time of the newcastle game. But in polite words this is getting ridiculous
