Villa Champions Again

Villa Champions Again

Villa's second string have again taken the Barclays Premier Reserve League South title.

I do hope they shorten that for next season, it's somewhat of a mouthful.

A 2-0 victory over neighbours West Bromwich Albion last night allowed the reserves to tie up the title for the second consequtive season and as you can imagine Kevin MacDonald was 'over the moon'.

He never actually said that you understand, what he said according to the official site was:

'It's been a pleasure working with them and I think they've had some outstanding performances, especially away from home.

'We've been under a bit of pressure the last few games and probably not played to our maximum ability but we've managed to see the games through.

'The second goal probably summed up our season - a great inception from Marc Albrighton, a great ball and a great finish.

Albrighton opened the scoring on the 35th minute and James Collins secured the win in stoppage time.

Team:

Villa: Parish, Lichaj, Baker, Hogg, Clark, Roome, Albrighton, G Gardner, Collins, Delfouneso, Hofbauer. Substitutes: Mikaelsson, Bevan, Forrester, Blythe, Grocott.

Albion: Kiely, Hoefkens, Samuels, Labadie (Mantom 82), Donk, Downing, Kim, Mulumbu, Wood (Brown 76), Bednar, Elford-Alliyu. Substitutes: Allsop, Lovell, Waghorn.

The season's standings for the reserves reads as follows:

Played - 16
Wins - 11
Draws - 3
Losses - 2

Great to see the kids coming through strong again. It confirms that the infrastructure at the club is still moving in the right direction. The next stage is for us to use them in the first team squad. It would be pleasant to see a youngster fit straight in to a role when the first choice is injured. For example if Luke Young is not available, playing the reserve right back rather than moving 3 players around to cover the change. A bit like the way that Arsenal have introduced Gibbs at left back because Clichy is injured.

Surely thats too easy VOTH. It doesn't give MON's pecking order much credence whereas he plays whoever isn't playing in their chosen position but has brought him an apple every day that week.
