Poll: Are Villa Just Lucky!?!?!?!?

Our latest poll, suggested by Tallaght Villan, asks if all the talk is right, are Villa just lucky?

Arsenal fans have especially said on forums etc that Villa are lucky, but does the league really lie?

Forum member villahibs isn't amused by the sounds of it!

Well actually it's Arsenal who have now scored 6 last minute / injury time goals this season, a higher total than ANY OTHER TEAM in the PL. The 'lucky Villa' and 'battling Arsenal' quotes are really starting to bore me. They are struggling and they know it. Every interview you hear with an Arsenal connection smacks of desperation, some of the quotes are downright comical. Wenger said last night Arsenal had to dig in and fight till the end, and because of that they 'won at least a point'!! What the feck does that mean?? We won at least a point. It doesn't even make sense.

I don't want to go into this in to much detail, but any respect I had for Wenger or Arsenal Football Club has totally left me in the last couple of months. I actually now hate them and all the excuses for dropped points, and total lack of respect for any team who dares get a result against them. I'd p!ss myself if Everton beat them to 5th place.

If it was a good run in a cup, it might be put down to luck, but this is the league, we've played 23 games, they can't all have been lucky!

How many last minute goals have Arsenal had in recent weeks?

we were very lucky for most of last season, sntaching winners in the last few minutes, or in games the opposition dominated. To some extent, you make your won luck by having really good players, like young, agbonlahor and barry. however in other ways, your just plain lucky.

We have more away wins than anyone else in the league-thats not luck, you jealous gooners!

We've had 2 pieces of good luck, from memory. Milner's goal against West Ham and the Penalty against Sunderland. That's not really a much in the way of luck, is it? The rest is down to skill and hard work. A goal in the 92nd minute is no luckier than one in the first. A team should play for the allotted time, not 89 minutes. Think about all the bad luck - Stoke, Middlesbrough and Arsenal, and you have to start thinking we've been on the wrong end of the luck scales.

Heathfield I fully agree with you about the 2 pieces of luck and the penalty was definately a foul so you could maybe discount it....only the goal against West Ham was lucky and to be fair after watching them yesterday it shows just how well we defended against them they looked good against Hull

Liverpoo were lucky at the start of the season but nobody seems to pick up on it

Lucky?! We create our own luck if any, and all ref decisions have been precise... so some good refereeing, Cisse should of been sent off for Sunderland for his grotesque tackle - but he didn't, Chimbonda should also of gone. As it happened we were the team with 10 men, not them who should have had 9 men! I wonder what the score line could of been then??! Perhaps it would of been us who was lucky then!

agree lee, I think teams create their own 'luck'. Enough times Man utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool have won in injury time etc, about time we started doing the same!

Villa - lucky? OF COURSE WE ARE!! Our owner must be second to none in the footballing world. He cares about the club, he cares about the history and roots of the club, he cares about the community (just look at the Acorns deal), he cares enough to communicate with the fans (the real ones, not just the prawn sandwich guys), and he cares enough to build the team (and the club) slowly and on a sound footing. And then we have one of the best managers in the business, who knows what he is about and is intelligent enough to know that you don't build lasting success overnight with an open cheque book. Villa - lucky? OF COURSE WE ARE!!

BobTheBuilder, How profound but how true you are! We are very lucky to have been brought up by our peers to support such a great historic club with family values. Over the years we as Villa fans have suffered the lows and celebrated the very few highs but now we are starting to achieve a certain level of consistentsy and with it a good run of results, why is it we are knocked for that or called lucky? We are only lucky to be Villa fans and not on the other side of the fence with you bitter gooners. Can i also add that we are banded around the football world as "thriller Villa"and not "boring, boring arsenal"!

Is it 5 or 6 OGs for Villa of late? People say that is lucky. No. It is not luck. It's excellent crosses from AY and great pressure from GA forcing opposition defenders into making errors. I am lucky to be a Villa fan (finally).

To be honest I agree we've been working hard, putting teams under pressure, etc - but seriously I can't see how anyone can honestly put their hands up and say we haven't been getting the rub of the green lately.....clearly we have. Nothing to be ashamed of, and people are now attributing everything we do to luck. Nonetheless though, I do feel we've been getting more than our fair share of late, but long may it continue!

I think this season, a lot of fans of other teams thought that Villa would be 'found out', as in teams would now know how to cope with Ashley and Gabby. That hasn't happened, so we must be lucky, right? Well our main target man up front has been injured for ages, the Youngs were/are suspended, our rock in defense is injured and will be out for months and I'm sure Bouma feels lucky in the way he got injured! Yes, we have been getting the rub of the green at times but none more than any other team. We are showing a lot of grit and desire to win rather than a fear of losing. Man Utd win a game 1 nil and get hailed as great champions. We win a game 1 nil and it is just down to luck? Didn't Arsenal get an injury-time equaliser the other day?

At times the way we win may be lucky but no one can call the results lucky.....its just these people who only see the lucky goal and dont see the dominance we assert without scoring, or when a team attacks us but dosent come close to scoring......everytime someone calls villa a lucky team its really just an insult to their own team.......luck is not a right or privilege, it has to be earned.and you have to put yourself in a position to get lucky.

I think Villa are very lucky... To have sucha great owner/chairman, manager, hungry players that play for each other rather than themselves and great fans that have stuck by them through the dross the Ellis churned out!

Winning in the last minute isn't luck - it happens because you have more mental and physical strength than your opponents. We may have gained a few points from being fortuitous this season (Hull away, West Ham away to some extent) but equally there have been games where we've deserved more than what we've got (Arsenal home, Stoke away, Boro home). It all evens itself out over the course of the season. If a team goes down it's because they're one of the worst teams in the division. If a team wins the league, it's because they're the best. If Villa finish above Arsenal, it's because we're better than them.
