Replacements For Laursen Being Lined Up?

Little bit of gossip going on in the red tops today, the one of note (and sadness) is in The Sun.

They claim that Martin Laursen informed Villa boss Martin O'Neill yesterday that he will need another operation which could mean he is out for up to 9 months.

The rumours are that Laursen, 31, is considering retirement having already fought back from several career threatening injuries.

James Nursery of The Mirror follows that up saying that MON's main targets to replace Laursen are Everton defender Joleon Lescott who moved to Merseyside from Wolves and often linked Manchester City defender Micah Richards.

Richards might make sense if he isn't going to feature for City after they spend their billions but - with no disrespect to Villa - why would Lescott need to move from Everton when they are fighting for a similar place in the league and have a very good manager in David Moyes?

The Sun also link us to 21 year old Maccabi Tel Aviv midfielder Maor Buzaglo but say no more on who and why, so I'll do the same and maybe just let out a little yawn!

Agreed cannot see Lescott joining the club. Richards would be a good signing in my eyes, i think O'Neill could get his career back on track.

Ive said it before, and ill say it again. If O'Neill signs that waste of space Richards, ill hunt him down and rape him. Laursen needs someone special to replace him, Richards is not that man.

Lets get Mellberg back and Hangelund
bentonm
bentonm, i would love to see Mellberg back and I think Haangeland is of Laursen's mould, either would please me!!

Matthew Upson I say. I know he's an ex Blue Nose, but he's quality. The only way Moyes would sell Lescott is if he needs the money to rebuild in other areas of the team, and a club come in with an 'over the top' offer. So it IS a possibility. Richards would be good cover at right back/centre half. Sensible signing as long as we get Upson or Lescott as well
krfeskivilla
agreed krfeskivilla, Matthew Upson is a very good defender, think he'd be more solid than the others mentioned. Arsenal are said to be interested in getting him back mind you.
The Fear
Matthew upson would love to come to the Villa after he had 40,000 people shouting out that he takes it up the wrong un.

Out Taylor, Knight, Laursen (Retirement), Shorey, Barry, Osbourne, Harewood, Salifou, Gardner....In Hart, Glen Johnson, Upson, Haagland, Baines, Lennon, Huddlestone, Defour, Kranjcar and Vagner Love. Easy! ;0)
In MON we trust!
Oh and get back to playing 4-5-1, with a ball winner infront of the back 4 (Reo/Sidwell) a ball keeper (Petrov/Huddlestone) and a play maker (Defour/Kranjcar)
In MON we trust!
well now you put it that way, it does look pretty easy this management lark! lol
The Fear
I've just left a message on Randy's phone saying I'm more than happy to spend his cash, if MON's not and gave the players above...lets wait and see!! ;0)
In MON we trust!
We won't sell Lennon to any one :-) but don't blame you for trying. Can have bentley if you want lol.
Big Mikey G
Our best centre-back since Paul McGrath - I think he is bound to retire now and it is a great shame. Davies and Cuellar really need to step up now! I would love to see Gary Cahill back as well!! I just wonder if rushing him back v WBA did the damage??

Isnt Lescott a Villa fan? Maybe he wants to come an live the dream? Think I would go for the Haageland / Melberg idea! Aren't they both Scandinavians too?
