Unoial Villa News...

We mentioned a few weeks ago about the vote for which player/s should feature in Broad Streets Walk of Stars and the runaway winners were Villa's 1982 European Cup winners with 1536 votes, over a 1000 votes ahead of Paul McGrath. Russell Jones, Head of Marketing: 'Aston Villa are delighted that the team of 1982 are the winners of the public Walk of Stars vote, although all six nominees were deserving of the star. We look forward to seeing them presented with their star here at the ground for the Hull game and their achievement being honoured on Broad Street.'

Emile Heskey has told the Express & Star he has no regrets moving to Villa instead of Liverpool despite the fact we've missed out on the Champions League fight. He said: 'I am happy I am here, I want to do well for Villa. It is going to be hard but it is about stepping stones and the club is still trying to break into that top four. One day we will do it. This is the first time a lot of the players will have challenged for the Champions League and they will reap the benefits of the experience. They will reap the rewards and hopefully do better. I think fifth place will still be progress. If you look at the progress over the years, then fifth, we just take it step by step.' Meanwhile, a few Villa fans were thought to regret him moving to Villa instead of Liverpool! :o)

Ha, it is the bullsh** season, sorry, I meant the transfer rumour season! It won't be long before we are linked with every player except the ones we actually buy but in the meantime, the rumours are slowly building. According to the People we are after £4million rated right-back Marcos Angeleri the 26-year-old plays for Estudiantes de La Plata and is also an up and coming star for the Argentina national side. For some quality highlights of this player and details of a link (well, I say details, it is really just a story written in 2 seconds by a bored journo!) to Spurs winger David Bentley: Ha! The Cock & Bull Transfer Season Is Upon Us!

Vital Villan: Martin O'Neill has said that 3 points were vital v West Ham if we wanted to chase Arsenal for 4th place. Speaking on the official site after the match, our manager revealed his frustration as we failed to pick up the win we desperately needed. 'We had to win. I felt if we had done, we would have been off and running again on the back of some good performances. I felt three points would have given us a chance. With Arsenal travelling to Anfield, they would have been under more pressure. I think if this result had happened mid-season, you could have brushed it aside and made up for it. But now we are running out of games. It's going to be a really difficult task and in reality we will now need help from other sources. Let's be fair, we needed to win.'

Nicky Shorey says Villa are looking to get back to winning ways. He told the official site: 'Everyone is disappointed but all we can do is go onto the next game and put it right. We played some good stuff going forward as a team and maybe we've just got to do a bit better on the defensive side. It's hard as of late as we haven't been getting the results and we have put in a few good performances along the way. But we have got to be a bit more ruthless. It looked like we were going to hold out for a 1-0 win but these things happen sometimes. We've got to make sure we try and stop it from now on because we've conceded a few sloppy goals.'

Meanwhile Luke Young says Villa look great going forward, it is just the fact we can't go on and finish games off that is the worry. 'We are playing some great stuff and going forward we are looking dangerous in every game we play in. But at the moment we can't see the game out and collect all three points. I think we've got to look at it both ways - they had a few chances as well and it was such an open game. It was a great game to watch for the neutral but playing in it was a bit hectic. When you go a goal ahead you need to calm down a bit, get men behind the ball and try and see the game out.'

Tickets for Villa's home clash with Hull are now on general sale. The Barclays Premier League clash takes place on Monday May 4, with an 8pm kick-off. Prices are: £15 to £37 (adults)
£10 to £37 (under-16s) £19 to £37 (young adults and students) £15 to £37 (over-65s)

Stan Collymore says our wingers are what have made Villa so exciting this season. He told AVTV: 'The forward play has been fantastic this season. I think the difference between the really good teams like Villa and mid-table sides is the width - that ability to get crosses in, like Ashley and James do. Villa get forward into the final third and constantly deliver terrific crosses. Your strikers are then always being kept in the game. As a consequence, they will get the chances they need. That's why Villa have been entertaining home and away this season.' Full article: Click Here

Vital Villan: Freddy Bouma is set to undergo further ankle surgery and has been ruled out for the rest of the season. The 30 year old Dutch leftback, who has been missing since our Intertwobob match against Odense had been making steady progress the last few weeks and all had been hopeful he would be ready for a few cameo appearances towards the end of the season. However, unfortunately for Freddy a scan has revealed that fragments of his bone have broken off in the ankle and he will now not return before next season. Full article: Bouma's Buggered
