'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Thursday's Aston Villa Transfer Talk

Well what can I say? Yet another quiet day as far as transfer speculation is concerned......

The Mirror report that Aston Villa will be looking to sign highly rated youngster Daniel Sturridge in July, after being 'rebuffed' by Manchester City.

Sturridge, 19, has bagged himself three goals this season and is out of contract in the summer, I am told he is a Villa fan and with us riding high in the league, it may well be a dream move for the lad!!

The Mirror also reports that we are looking at Sheffield United's right-back Kyle Naughton, 20.

And finally the Birmingham Post claim that Martin O'Neill has been hinting at a move for a defender to help cover Laursen (who is out for a couple of months with a long term injury).

Thats it, what a boring day. I do hope we get a couple more bodies in, we are in the Top4 at the moment and we may not get another chance like this for a long time. Plus i want a trip to Wembley this season, so Top4 and the FA Cup would do me quite nicely, thank you.

I think even the sports journos are getting bored now, they're only concentrating on Spurz and Citeh, both of whom are good for a laugh.

Sturridge in the summer would be OK...especially if that means we get him for nothing ;)

Don't we want to win the UEFA Cup as well as the FA Cup? Or is that being too greedy?

Bored bored bored......i am new to the january transfer talks, always followed villa but didnt hang on every word spoken bout them till this year..is jan usually this boring? what happened to talks of Lescott? from what i hear he would fit perfectly for us and solve a few problems.....are everton actually sticking to the no sell promise?
NewSedition
Yeah, the links haven't been stunning this January, we usually get all sorts of daft press stories to excite and then depress us! Strurridge I think will happen and will be a good one! Welcome on board by the way NewSedition.

The Sharner rumour's being touted about quite a bit too...could Paul Sharner be the 20 goal a season man we need?!
olofthegreat
We wouldnt get sturridge on a free, because hes under 21 we would have to pay compensation to City. Would be a good move still though for the Villa

Only two signings so far and one of them isn't going to be playing with the first team? We need reinforcements if we want to continue in the same fashion as the first half of this amazing season!

Danny S looks like he could develop into a superstar if given the right coaching. One thing I will say is that he does have a bit of an ego on him, so might be disruptive if he signs for you. Truth be told I don't want him to leave, but if he does go hope it's to the Villa, cause I feel MON will develop him into an England international, whereas at Chelsea he'll rot on the bench.

fifthcolumnblue you speak so much sense. Of course Sturridge has family roots in B6 and would settle in nicely to our young English talented squad. Chelski would not be the move for him if they was even interested! The message seems clear to all the pro's out there, if you are English and want to play for your country then get yourself into VP asap. As a Villa fan i am just so proud of what MON and Randy have achieved so far and long may it continue. UTV.

It's nice to see two budding top four clubs leading the way in showcasing english players. You have some excellent attacking English talent, I wonder what the result would be to add this to our all English back four of Baines, Lescott, Jagielka and Hibbert. All four playing superbly at the moment, I think Jags and Joleon are on the verge of both being called up, which would be fabulous as usually one of the other gets the nod. Baines isn't far off either and will do his international credentials the world of good with his latest performances.
