'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Clough Hails Bannan

Nigel Clough is falling in love with Barry Bannan and is hoping he can extend the loan spell for the little man.

The 19 year old has been very impressive at Pride Park after joining on a one month deal, but Clough is hoping to get the agreement of O'Neill for the loan to be extended as Derby battle to avoid relegation.

Speaking to the Derby Evening Telegraph (delivered everyday you know!) Clough Junior praised both his attitude and his versatility:

'Barry's shown enough, either coming on or starting, and he's given us something a bit different.

'He can fill a number of positions. If Kris Commons wasn't fit, he could go and play off the front man or go wide left or wide right or even in the centre of midfield. So he's a good little player to have around.

'We will be getting in touch with Villa to see if we can extend the loan.'

Personally I can't see any reason why Villa wouldn't extend the loan, Barry is gaining valuable experience and given the nature of the Championship he's proving he can be effective even if he's not built like a brick poo house.

He'll learn far more playing for Derby than he will in our reserves that's for sure.

Could h ebe our new Barry? Seems like it - a versatile player in the Barry mould. So Barry swanning off to Champs League Team may not be that devastating IMHO
nazvfc
agreed. also with players like defour saying they would fancy a move to villa, barry leaving is not quite so awful

ric112 - it is mate according to the many managers we have on here. before the advent of the internet - this is what the fans were saying when a certain Andy Gray left but we replaced him and the rest is history (a great part of our illustrious history). One man (player or manager) does not make a team. Barry CAN and WILL be replaced, maybe for the better who is to say - not me - but I believe in MON's judgement

It certainly wont hurt or hinder young Barry none to see out the season with Derby County. Certainly more beneficial to the progress and development of the young man I would have thought, that playing reserve team football here at Brummagem B6. He has potential, and has improved considerably in the past 12-18 months. First team football in the Championship until seasons end will do him no harm at all.

Agreed nazvfc. Barry will be replaced, the club will move on. We thought it was the end of the world when Hitchens, Hateley, Rioch, Gray, Gidman etc etc all moved on to pastures new. It wasn't. Replacements came in and the club continued breathing.

I'm sure we all noted with interest that he can "fill a number of positions". So perhaps that troublesome right-back slot can be sorted when BB returns to B6? Seriously, I hope he will fulfil the great promise he has shown so far.

Blimey Gelnsider - love the list of great Villa names. I can only trace my history back to Rioch. I'd definitely add Platt to that list. Someone I was sorry to see go but who I don't think we actually missed that much.

Dunno why, but the phraae, brick poo house made me chuckle. We have some exciting youngsters coming through at the moment, Delfouneso, Bannan, Albrighton, Clark and my favourite Nathan Baker. I am not confident about our chances this season, or next to be fair, but the future stills look bright in my eyes!!!

Clough said "He can fill a number of positions" .. Well I surprised O'Neill let him go as he could have slotted in as a fullback.
