Friedel's Appeal Lodged

Villa have officially appealed the red card and automatic one match ban Brad Friedel received during the Liverpool game.

A statement on the official site reads:

'Villa have lodged an appeal against goalkeeper Brad Friedel's sending off in the defeat at Liverpool.

'The club should learn tomorrow afternoon whether the red card and one-match ban will be overturned.'

Whilst it was a penalty, it was certainly no more than a yellow card offence, if even that.

There's no way in hell the appeal committee should not allow the appeal and overrule the decision.

Good - as Liverpool fan I think overturning his ban would be the proper thing to do, regardless of who you're playing next.

agree Naoise. Penalty yes, red card no.

What happened to the days when players had to actually change direction to go around people? Now, players just tap the ball off to the side and run into defenders/goalkeepers.... ah I'm getting old!

Most certainly should be over turned, a red card for that is a joke. I conceed we lost to the better team on the day, but I still think liverpool were lucky with that penalty as I have seen refs not give them thinking the attacker was going down to easy and looking for it.

Whats the big deal? It was a pathetic piece of goalkeeping, defo pen and deserved a red card just for the way he went down/stayed up. JOKE!
jimbodini
Because villa are not Manure, Liverpoo or Cheatsea there is no chance that the red card will be over ruled. If it is i will bare my ar$e on New Street Station.
HolteEnder43
Deserves to be rescinded, it wasnt worth a red.

Not a hope in hell... who do we think we are? Chelsea or Manyoo...

and it has been!

Great news...lets hope Laursen and Bouma will also play!! Oh my god that means we'll have a right back at right back, 2 centre backs at centre back and a left back at left back........who would have thought it!!

Never a sending off in the memory of man. Must be overturned - didn't make mucg difference to the result though.

You cant really blame the referee for taking the action that he did, after all he was only following the letter of the law, and would no doubt have come in for stick had he merely booked Brad, and not flashed the red card. Its the law itself that needs looking at.

The way things are going for us right now though, we'll probably find that the ban is doubled, and we are charged with making nothing more than a frivolous appeal.
