International Selections

Ok so we have the new squad for England tonight, makes for interesting reading.

England have a friendly against Slovakia this Saturday, before facing the Ukraine next Wednesday in a World Cup Qualifier.

Given the fact it's a double header you would expect the squad to be stronger than some friendly selections so far and in some ways it is.

All our England hopefuls like Gabby, Ash, Milly, NRC, Luke Young, Sidwell, Davies are all missing.

Yes Gabby and Ash have been dropped.

However Barry has made the squad and so has Heskey.

The full squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers

Ben Foster, Robert Green, David James

Defenders

Leighton Baines, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Phil Jagielka, Glen Johnson, Ledley King, Joleon Lescott, John Terry, Matthew Upson

Midfielders

Gareth Barry, David Beckham, Michael Carrick, Stewart Downing, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, Shaun Wright-Phillips

Forwards

Carlton Cole, Peter Crouch, Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney

At least Capello is picking based on form, it's an improvement over the last few.

Oh well at least we are only risking injury to Barry and Heskey. There's a bright side to everything.

Can't believe he's dropped Ash...that'll really help his confidence.

I don't think Ash's confidence is tha high on Capello's priorities......winning football matches is. Let MON worry about the Villa players, that's what I'd do anyway.

Well said VOTN, Capello has proven time and time again that he picks based on form. The fact Jagielka and Carlton Cole are in the side proves this, I cannot imagine either of them getting a look in under the previous regimes

Yes well said VOFN

Ash doesn't deserve to be in the england squad on current form, but that's not normally a criteria for getting picked!. Glad of the lack of Villa players at this crucial time of the season in the england squad.
HolteEnder43
Maybe Ash and Gabby not making the england team will give them the incentive to rase their games.Hope so anyway
Tallaght Villan
Congratulations to all the Villans called up by their respective countries for international duty. Here's hoping that they all return to B6 fit and raring, ready for the very important final few weeks of the campaign.

On current form, which Capello insists is the only criteria involved when picking his international squads, I think that both Gareth Barry and Emile Heskey can count themselves somewhat fortunate to receive the call up.
