Aston Villa Transfer Gossip

Bit of transfer gossip doing the rounds today, I was so excited I left it until 4pm to even think about writing anything on them!

The Sun says Villa are after £13million rated, 20-year-old Belgian international Steven Defour. The midfield playmaker, who currently plays for Standard Liege, won the Belgian Golden Shoe award in 2007....which I'm sure was nice.

Wolves are in talks to take Marlon Harewood to the Molyneux on loan for the rest of the season. The 29-year-old was linked to Stoke City all summer long and has more recently been tipped to move to either Nottingham Forest or Sheffield Wednesday. Mick McCarthy told their official site: 'I've had a discussion with Martin O'Neill and I'm waiting to have another discussion with him. I'm delighted with the four strikers I've got here - they're all off on international duty and potentially involved in two games - but if I've got the ability to sign somebody of Marlon Harewood's ability and strengths then it would be fantastic.'

The Sun also say that Rafa Benitez has been given a war chest of around £30million to spend having signed a new long term deal with Liverpool and they've put 2+2 together and come up with Rafa for Barry part two. Oh what fun we have to look forward to this summer with a 1000 stories on Gareth Barry and the transfer saga, only way to curtail this is by finishing 4th I guess... gulp!

And finally, according to the Daily Star, Stiliyan Petrov is close to signing a new 3 year deal with Villa.

Have a great weekend one and all, lets hope and pray for 3 points at the end of it!

ho, and indeed hum.
The Fear
Buy Heskey and loan out Harewood - genius.
ASPINALL
Yes, Heskey has been a huge disappointment to date, just hasn't looked the part at all. To be honest I've never been a fan, but clearly we needed a cover for Carew, just far from convinced that Emile Heskey was the right option. Maybe his injuries are holding him back. Lets hope so, otherwise we've splashed out 3m whatever on a player that adds little to the claret and blue cause.

Hope Stilyan Petrov does see his way to signing a new extended deal. I expect to see quite a few comings and goings during the summer months, including one or two surprise exits, but we need a bit of stability with which to add to the new arrivals.
