Peace Preparations Ideal

Martin O'Neill believes playing in the Peace Cup will be a positive aide to any Champions League involvement we may have next season.

Speaking on the E&S about the tournament O'Neill explained that he believed the fact that Villa were invited to take part in the prestigious competition is a testament to the growth of the club over recent years.

"First of all it`s a prestigious competition and we`ve been asked to go into it. I think that`s a sign of the progress that we`re making.

"If you were involved in Champions League qualification, which is still a possibility, that would almost be ideal.

"In truth just finishing that competition and then having a fortnight before the start of the season couldn`t be better.

"I see nothing but positives about pre-season in general and the competition in particular."

It will certainly be an experience, and great for the younger players to taste more quality European competition.

Just hope we are in contention for the Champions qualifiers, because then the experience will be even more invaluable.

Why is he havin a larf??? Surely a pre-season against good opposition regardless of what it is - is better than some (no disrespect intended) small clubs that we would probably just stroll around and have a bit of keep fit - this would be serious pre-season - may set us up for the season. For Mcgraths sake why all this have a go at MON. He's made mistakes - he's learned form them (hoepfully) get over it.

Yes, I like the very idea of participating in a pre-season tournament such as this. Certainly shows that our profile is on the up, after years of being in the doldrums, I would imagine that invitations to take part in this tournament aren't made lightly.

We'll be able to test ourselves against some very good teams, far better preparation for us rather than a trip to the states to compete against some MLS no-hopers.
