Unoial Villa News...
Martin O'Neill has explained the situation with Villa defender Martin Laursen. In the Birmingham Mail he said: 'He felt a wee bit sore in the second half but I didn’t know that until the game was over. The specialist, who thought he had sorted it out the first time, had a look at him and said ‘There’s no point doing something as a temporary measure for him to come back, we better get this sorted out now’. So he’s had an operation on the outside meniscus and that’s why he’ll be out for that length of time. It’s a real blow, a blow to us and a blow to Martin particularly as it’s a long time out. It’s a chance for others, but it’s another player that you know won’t be in your squad. If we’re trying to keep momentum going, it is a blow.'

MON has confirmed that Gareth Barry will be captain in the absence of Martin Laursen. Too bloody right I reckon! 'Gareth Barry will be the captain in Martin's absence and there is no problem with that whatsoever. He has done it before and he has had an exceptionally good season.'
The New Football Pools Fanzine Awards are back. Clever (fecking genius really if truth be known) old me (very old, 40 next month, where did those years go..!) one the best editor last time around. Maybe someone kind will nominate the site and editor again?!?! :o) The New Football Pools Fanzine Awards
Talking about Barry, he has replaced his sacked agent Alex Black with former Villa player Michael Standing. 'Michael’s just speaking to the club really on my behalf at the moment, that’s all it is, because obviously my contract ended with Alex Black. It’s just getting somebody around me that I trust 100 per cent and Michael’s my best pal. So I’m letting Michael do my talking, but it’s nothing more than that at the moment.' He also explains that his mate hasn't got any qualifications for this but says he doesn't need them adding it is quite an easy job for him! He hasn’t got legal experience or anything like that, but I don’t think he needs to have that,” explained the Villa skipper. 'I’ve confided in Michael and I’m happy he can do what’s needed, which isn’t too much at the moment.'

Vital Villan: According to an interview Charles N'Zogbia gave to Foot Mercato - a regular read in this household - he would prefer a move to Villa. 'Arsenal and Aston Villa are top teams in the English league, so I`d be happy to join them. 'I don`t have a priority. Both are good clubs, but I have a little preference for Aston Villa. They have been improving as a team in the last few years, which proves that they can do well. Full article: N'Zogbia Has A Preference For Villa

I mentioned this yesterday in one or two of my Emile Heskey articles but hadn't got the full facts and wanted to wait to see what quotes the press actually got off Martin O'Neill! Seems that the quick email I got was right though, the Villa boss is now interested in moving for Newcastle striker Michael Owen in the summer. I would imagine they've enquired this transfer window and had it confirmed that Owen doesn't want to leave until he can do so on a free. If only we could grab him now, I've said for months in our forum (along with many others - I'm not claiming this is particularly clever of me obviously!!) that his goals - IF FIT - could win us the blinking league. O’Neill said: 'I’m not saying that I will move for Owen in the summer — I’ve not looked at anything at that remote a distance. But that’s not to say Michael Owen is not a terrific player. We wait to see. Anything is possible. Kaka is a possibility! We want to try to compete at this level but what’s happening in the future? I have no idea.' Martin O'Neill has spoken about new boy Emile Heskey. He told the Mail: 'I’m sure that Emile has a driving ambition to be in that England party and be on that plane to go to South Africa next year and I think this is his chance. Eventually things might not work out, but at this minute it feels really good because I think he’ll be great for us. If Liverpool were one of the teams he might look and see they are not playing a £20million player every single week. They’ve got Fernando Torres, who’s one of the best players in world football, and they’re able to change things round.' Full article: Press Believe Heskey To Be A Great Signing
