'If It's Football, It's Vital'

N'Zogbia Has A Preference For Villa

According to an interview Charles N'Zogbia gave to Foot Mercato - a regular read in this household - he would prefer a move to Villa.

In the interview quoted from Setanta Sports, he says he would be happy with a move to either Villa or Arsenal, but he does a preference for us as we have been improving over the last few years.

"I`m still in stand-by, waiting for the club to make a decision. We did everything to put the club that are interested in contact with Newcastle. But it seems that something is frozen on Newcastle`s part. They have the cards in their hands. It`s just about a good offer being made.

Adding "The club is asking for too much money. All we can do is wait and see. The clubs that are interested remain the same, but it`s tough because they are asking for a ridiculous sum of money.

'Arsenal and Aston Villa are top teams in the English league, so I`d be happy to join them.

"I don`t have a priority. Both are good clubs, but I have a little preference for Aston Villa. They have been improving as a team in the last few years, which proves that they can do well.

"I don`t think (that being in Villa`s starting XI is easier than in Arsenal`s), and it`s a young team. Aston Villa`s manager is a good coach, according to my friends. I think he could make me better."

Commented on his previous little preference, Lyon he said:

"The door is not closed to Olympique Lyonnais. Perhaps after speaking to Newcastle their interest was not as strong as it used to be. I don`t know what happened, but the door remains open.

"I`m not upset. If a transfer is meant to be, that`s good news."

The remainder of the interview is him moaning about Newcastle's lack of progress since he joined the club, and that he doesn't believe he can improve as a player whilst with them. Pointing to what I assume are broken promises and saying that halfway through each season for the past four years the situation is always the same.

He talks about given his all should he remain at Newcastle, but he doesn't believe the club can match the expectations of the fans.

His comments probably ring true with many Geordies, but at the end of the day this is a player who is conducting his future in the press, I'm not sure we would want somebody like that given our team spirit.

I dont think we need this sort of character at the club.

Well he is only 22 and Newcastle have been going down hill each season and he is fed up and now he is 22 he feels he needs to move on to improve, he is a star in the making i feel, and he is jsut trying to force a move through now because it seems to me he has been waiting for a move longer than we know and it seems Newcastle are keeping him to ransom, just remember Gareth Barry also came out to the press about moving and so did C. Ronaldo and other top stars and they have gone to stay at the club and still be happy, so whats to say he would come here and unsettle the dressing room ? He has big ambitions just like Villa and cannot stand still anymore, Who says when he is happy at Villa he won't be praising Villa in the press and giving us a bigger reputation.
Villa 4 Ever
He's a left winger ?, he won't oust Ash from our team and he's a *****e left back, we already have one of those. So I'd give him a couple of months before he's moaning he can't get a game.
Villan57
Thought he said last time his preference was Arsenal?!?!?!?
The Fear
He's obviously not being translated very well!!! I think he'd be a great signing, we don't know how well Bouma will recover and Shorey is just not up to the grade. Add that to his ability to play left wing covering Ash/Jimmy he could be a great squad player. Sign him up Mart!

Not sure about this guy. He has talent, but has he got the right mentality? We have a fantastic togetherness in the dressing room, and this has been a major factor in our improvement. MON will want to be sure that he will buy into this concept before he considers signing him. He could be a top signing, but my preference would be to offer Shorey plus 5m for Gareth Bale, who as well as left back can cover wide left. Spurs probably wouldn't sell, but no harm in trying. I'm sure the player would be interested.

totally agree Pjvilla, and with MON taking him under his wing i think would could see a very talented player turn into something speical, just look at Young, who was he before he moved to Villa ? and at the time he was the same age as N'Zogbia.
Villa 4 Ever
I wouldn't worry about players disrupting the change room harmony with MON around. Anyone that causes strife will be cleaning boots in the back paddock far far away me thinks. MON doesn't tolerate fools.

He did Fear...I'm sure I read that too - "I have a slight preference for Arsenal." What a joker.

Id have thought le arse would be his ideal move (frog-ridden!) but if he wants to come to villa then thats fine by me. Young, versitile, left-sided and quite cheap i would imagine. If he causes trouble MON will just wash his hands of him, simple as that. He's got a chance to come to a club which is on the up (providing MON is actually interested) so he'd be a fool to mess it up. Defo worth a punt. MONs bound to change his attitude and we need to bolster the squad. He's a better player than shorey after all

Newcastle is a sinking ship. You can't blame him for wanting out. I am sure that there is more going on behind the scenes and MON is probably waiting for the price to come down which it surely will as the window draws to a close, if he is interested atall.

N'Zogbia's first club was Le Havre, in France, where I live, and I can tell you that there are not many fond memories of him down here... He left the club for Newcastle at the age of 19 I think, but was meant to sign his first professional contract with Le Havre, where he was an academy player. He never played for the first team and Le Havre AC and Newcastle are still in trial because of him... I'm not too sure his mentality is the best to suit the Villa Park dressing room, even with MON around... on the other hand he's pretty good, still young and he could flourish under MON and could become a good squad player. I also agree that Newcastle is a sinking ship and you surely can't blame him too much for trying to escape..
delirium
Arsenal obviously arent all that interested, cause one minute he prefers them and now he prefers us. The worrying thing is that MON has not denied these reports (as he often does) so maybe we are gonna sign him...........
