The Sun carried a story yesterday with no quotes, sources or real substance as far as I can see claiming that Manchester City boss Mark Hughes (will he still be for next season? I would very much doubt it, so that surely puts a question mark over this link anyway?) wants none other than Villa and England midfielder Gareth Barry.
Oh God, here we go again, a build up to constant links to our best player leaving Villa Park.
It seems likely, if we don't secure 4th, that Barry will go, I think the quotes from Martin O'Neill last summer suggested he wanted one more season to prove to Barry that Villa were serious contenders and are trying to build to break the top four monopoly, so I guess the link is no surprise, especially with the obscene sums of money that Man City appear to be willing to pay players. Totally wrong, totally immoral and ... no I think that is it!
Apparently, again only according to the red top, Hughes would be willing to pay £6million for the midfielder. SIX MILLION? Oh hang on, don't be too offended, that is £6million + often rumoured Villa target striker Daniel Sturridge as well as another often linked Citeh player, midfielder Michael Johnson. Add in another £10million and Steven Ireland and maybe we can talk!
Be interesting to see if Liverpool are linked to him again after last summers tug of war transfer saga. If Barry still wants in at Liverpool maybe he will be alarmed to read the News of the World today suggesting Real Madrid are after his mate Steven Gerrard for £80million!
