'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sunday's Aston Villa Transfer Talk

The News Of The World claim that Spurs boss Harry Red Face, sorry Harry Redknapp is going to come in for out of favour left-back Nicky Shorey. The 27-year-old appears to have flopped since moving from Reading for around £4million in the summer (to fill in for fans favourite Wilfred Bouma who picked up his awful ankle injury in the Inter-Two-Bob game).

Redknapp had tried to take him to Portsmouth but Shorey chose Villa. According to the red top Arry is also still interested in Nigel Hokey-Cokey and they even mention the possibility of a loan. That has to be pants! They really should ban the ability for a team in the same division being able to loan players but we haven't got a squad big enough to dispose of NRC as he is versatile and can play all over the pitch.

The Sunday Express return to the growing rumour that Villa will raid Manchester City for 20-year-old midfielder Michael Johnson and 19-year-old striker/attacking midfielder Daniel Sturridge. They mention a price of around £10million. I'm fairly certain from my sources that this rumour has some substance to it, that doesn't mean we'll get them but seems we do want them.

The News of the World also claim that Villa are looking at Gillingham's striker Simeon Jackson. The 21-year-old Jamaican born striker has 12 goals so far this season and the paper claims we'll bid around £1million for him. Apparently he caught Martin O'Neill's attention in the FA Cup clash with the Gills in the previous round.

I'm liking the sound of Johnson and Sturridge - for me, they'd almost complete the jigsaw needed for the rest of the season. My only question is would Sturridge play/score enough goals/get in the team ahead of Nathan?
olofthegreat
Exaclty Sturridge and Johnson would be great. Johnson is ready now - Sturridge and Delfouneso can just sit back and learn from Heskey and Carew. I still think a pip at the post move for Arshavin should be looked at!!

If Citeh sell Sturridge and Johnson they might as well close their academy. Surely even they can't be that short-sighted?

I think a decent full back should be top of the list but im all for sturridge and johnson. Maybe Richards? 16M for all 3! I thought we might move for Bent too but its looking less and less likely now.
medzy
agree with medzy.. if we got the three players id be delighted. Though I also think we need a natural wide player to cover for milner and ashley.

Apparently Arsenal are in for Micah Richards. Surely he'd prefer teh English set up at VP. Come on MON, Let's raid Citeh for all their young talent while they buy Cash hungry Galacticos.

Just drawn Liverpool or Everton away, that's if we beat Donny!
Nigel-not-Reo
Saying that NRC is versatile is surely just another way of saying that he's not been good enough in any one position to make it his own.

Johnson is quality and would certainly be good enough for first team but who would you leave out....even if Sidwell has been off form recently he still is part of a mf three that is untinkerable?!? But Johnson would certainly give us more options and Sidders even more incentive to to up his game. Micah would be a class signing for future. So strong and quick. Still don't think we should sell Shorey - I am positive he will come good.
