Villa Hero - Eddie Lowe - RIP

Awful news as yet another Villa hero passes away.

Neil Rioch of the Aston Villa Former Players Association said:

'Again - it is with much sadness that we inform you of the death of former Aston Villa and England international Eddie Lowe, aged 83, who passed away peacefully in hospital in Nottingham at 7.30pm last night (Monday 9th March).'

Brothers Eddie (second from right) and Reg Lowe (right) meeting fifteen year old Johnny Haynes, Edmonton schoolboy international forward, (left) and Arsenal wing half (second left) Archie Macaulay.

'Born in Halesowen, Eddie signed professional for Aston Villa in May 1945 and made 117 appearances and gained 3 England caps in the left-half position before his transfer to Fulham in 1950.

It has been a tragic start to 2009 with the loss of five great servants of Aston Villa Football Club - Vic Crowe, Johnny Dixon, Paul Birch, Harry Parkes and now Eddie Lowe.'

My dad will be in his element. All his heroes are playing for the Heaven Villa team! I bet he's got a season ticket!

What a sad year this is turning into for Villa heroes. Let's hope the current crop can succeed this season in memory of these great men.
