Another Wigan Fan's Opinion On Emile Heskey

1) So it looks very likely that Emile Heskey is on his way to Villa. You surprised?

I am surprised I thought he would go to Liverpool in the summer.

2) Reports say you are in talks to sign Mido, you totally gutted?!

I'm not gutted about Heskey going, he hasn't gelled with Zaki , in fact Camara looks better with Zaki than Heskey. Not convinced Mido is the answer but time will tell.

3) What sort of player do you think we'll be getting in Heskey and with your knowledge of what Martin O'Neill is building at Villa and the players we have, do you think he'll fit in (I know as a Wigan fan you most likely couldn't care less but go with it!!!)?

Not one who will score you a raft of goals, there are two Heskey's the one who runs and runs, wins every header and lays of great balls to more prolific strikers and there's the one who can't be bothered chasing a ball a few feet in front of him and won't jump for a header. Trouble is you never know which one you are going to get.

4) How has his fitness been in recent years as he always seems to have had struggles with injuries through his career?

Was very bulky when we signed him but is now lean and fit stamina wise but gets lots of niggling hamstring problems.

5) You sorry to see him go (obviously there are still major IF's until anything is announced by the clubs)?

I was devastated to see Palacios go as he was 24, had three years of his contract to run and had his best years ahead of him. Heskey has 6 months left is 31 and hasn't got long left at the top. One of the reasons my source tells me we haven't done a deal apart from his exorbitant wage demands is that we only offered him a one year deal. Having said that he is a really nice unassuming guy and I honestly hope it works out for him with you.

Good luck for a top four spot

These two interviews are nothing like the Rovers fan doing the Friedel one...that lad was generally gutted when it came about. Seems like we are having our pants pulled down here for 31 injury prone strkier who cant score and has excessive wage demands.

He is still one of the best foils for a speedy strike partner and MON wouldn't spend cash just for sentimental reasons...Give him a chance, that's assuming this story is true!!!

I would prefer Mido to Heskey.

Think its 3.5m better spent than it was on Knight!

I think we could of got Owen for less than 8m with the same wages!

"Think its 3.5m better spent than it was on Knight!" Would this be the same Zat Knight who came in a did a good job for us recently when we had a number of injuries? And isn't that what you have a squad for?

So the consensus is - if he wants to come to Villa over Liverpool he must be crap. Fans really are a strange breed.

People need to stop having a go at Zat, he's back up and not bad back up to have. The same as Heskey will be, I can't see him keeping a fully fit Carew out of the team all season long and when Carew gets his chance hopefully he'll up his game and we'll see more consistancy from him. If not, Heskey is better at holding up the ball than Carew and hopefully him and Gabby will get a little bit closer than Carew and Gabby do. We could see a nice partnership develop you never know.

Yes "BobTheBuilder" the very same Knight who was at fault for the Gillingham goal and pretty awful against Hamburg. Yes Knight is a squad player and you obviously can't compare a striker to a defender but if I was spending 3.5m on a player i'd rather spend it on Heskey. Just cos Knight's a villa fan doesn't mean you can ignore his awful positional sense, lack of awareness and ability to completely lose concentration at vital moments! Apart from that he's not bad!!

Presuming he signs, can we please just give him a fair crack of the whip and not jump on his back straight away. We've done this before with players that haven't been fancied (Knight, Harewood) or have been out of form (Petrov). I can't/won't be good for the player's confidence. If they're in the shirt they should ge our full support!

splatt - tell that to Tez86, who seems to want a noose around Heskey's neck before he's even pulled on a villa shirt and been given a chance to play.

he hasnt even put the shirt on yet and some of you are already having a pop! give him a chance we have been missing a target man! Sir Martin has just bought one! a very good one at that! he isnt bought to score goals hes bought to bring other people in the game who WILL score goals ie young/milner/gabi/barry...stop moaning and get behind the team for god sake! i bet you lot was the ones slating petrov and booing barry pre-season but cheer now when barry slots and vote for petrov as man of the match most weeks!
