'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ash Is Doing It Again

Do you remember back at the start of the season, Ashley Young was adamant Villa can make the Top 4 and stay there. He's now calling on the team to go on a run of another 13 unbeaten games because he thinks we can.

If he pulls this one off and gets it right I think I'm going to be asking him to select my lottery numbers.

Speaking on the official site Ash talked about 'strength and character'. Two qualities that we have seen in abundance from the squad this season with our ability to nick points, grind out results and come from behind during matches.

But Ash thinks those are the very reasons we will bounce back from the Chelsea disappointment and show that given the same type of match again, on any other day we could have sunk 2 or 3 goals past them.

'We've had an amazing run and obviously we would have liked to keep our unbeaten run going. Now we have to bounce back, and with the strength and the character we have, I believe we will.

'We are a bit down now but we're still in the top four - we must remember that.'

Surely that has to give some confidence back if anybody has lost some to the defeat?

'I don't think we were that bad against Chelsea.

'We created opportunities and on another day we would have scored two or three, but it just wasn't our day.

'It was disappointing that we didn't take anything out of the game.

'If one of our chances had gone in, maybe that would have turned the game in our favour. But that's the way things go sometimes - we just have to bounce back from it.'

I know plenty of fans are talking about it, but we really have to be due to give somebody a proper good spanking. Last season was goals a plenty at both ends, this season we've seen very few 3 or 4 goal thrillers yet we are creating the same number and the same types of chances.

The chances created against Chelsea are proof of that. Ash talks about one going in that could've changed the game, it could've been his freekick if only it had been an inch lower - that's how close it was in reality.

But as Friedel comments in the other article, the match at Stamford Bridge was a whitewash really. This game wasn't, and there are positives to take from that.

And as far as I'm concerned, Ash got Top 4 right so if he says we'll bounce back I believe him.

well, we are there because we should be there at the moment, the next 2-3 games are key, they have to get back to winning ways and when better than against Stoke next weekend?

I'm more confident now of a top 4 finish than I was before the Chelsea game. An on-form gabby could easily have earned a win at CSKA and a draw against Chelsea. Chelsea played as well as they have done all season (since the last time they played us!) and could easily have lost. Keep the faith cos the Arse are losing theirs!UTV

Revenge is required against Stoke City. COME ON THE VILLA!!

Well he is dead right. Chelsea grinded out the result this time, and put in a good defensive and holding possesion type performance. But Villa made a game of it. Particularly in the second half. If you think that the only real other 4th place contenders are Everton and Arsenal. Arsenal looked terrible, and only managed another 0-0 draw, and Everton have just lost their main play maker, Arteta until the end of the season, it doesn't look like anyone can stop us finishing 4th! I just hope we beat Moscow on Thursday!
