Wigan Fan's Opinion On Emile Heskey

1) So it looks very likely that Emile Heskey is on his way to Villa. You surprised?

Not surprised that he is leaving has our chairman Dave Whelan was quoted has saying he wanted something for Heskey rather than letting him go for free in the summer though Heskey himself said that he wanted to stay and run his contract down.

2) Reports say you are in talks to sign Mido, you totally gutted?!

Gutted? Absolutely not, Mido has been angling for a move to the JJB for the past 6 months, he wants to play for us, he can do all that Heskey does plus he will score more goals, and with Zaki we will have a Pharaoh pair (fair old pair ;) ) up front

3) What sort of player do you think we'll be getting in Heskey and with your knowledge of what Martin O'Neill is building at Villa and the players we have, do you think he'll fit in (I know as a Wigan fan you most likely couldn't care less but go with it!!!)?

Heskey is a handful for defences but he can trap a ball further than I can kick one, he’ll graft though and will bring in the players around him, don’t expect many goals from him, couldn’t hit a barn door with a banjo

4) How has his fitness been in recent years as he always seems to have had struggles with injuries through his career?

Heskey missed half of last season through injury, and he missed half the season before, this season he’s been relatively injury free, so he’s due a few weeks on the sidelines

5) You sorry to see him go (obviously there are still major IF's until anything is announced by the clubs)?

I will be sorry to be honest, he has been good for us, I will never forget the performance he put in at Bramall Lane two seasons ago when we had to win on the last game of the season to stay up, he was immense that day and showed what a player he can be, he also represented England whilst a Latic and that is a massive honour for a club the size of ours.

Hardly inspiring is it? So far this season in 20 games he has 3 goals and 1 assist!

If he is one of a few incoming it could prove a decent enough Jan I guess. We do need the bodies.

Heskey would be a good signing for you, he is fast and powerful, O'Neill knows him well and he is used to the area having played for...well I'd better not say had I ;)

How many UN-official assists? He can make goals just by being there - upright or prone.

Good transfer for you. As long as O'Neill hasn't been allowed to offer him a 20-year-deal like he has a habit of doing! (not literally, but the man does have issues with length)

Completely agree with Tubbz he will be a diabolical signing and for a side pushing for champions league and maybe even the title it shows a complete lack of ambition and knowledge of the game. Im sure sure arsenal, man u, chelsea and liverpool will be quaking in thier boots :S. To put him on the pitch we have to take off someone who may get us goals that includes any of our defenders!

I think he's better than Harewood but thats not saying much. Would prefer someone who could give us that extra goal out of no where kinda thing. Would be more excited if it were Bent or Sturridge arriving with Heskey. If this transfer goes through, it won't have improved our squad numbers because we have already sold one player this January and it barely improves our quality. No mustn't be negative.....he might just add something.

Is this our first ex-bluenose since Curbishly? I hope he comes and works his magic (not seeming to do a lot but somehow the team score a lot of goals).

"... it shows a complete lack of ambition and knowledge of the game". Lol. I have to smile when I see stuff like this about a guy who has pretty much done it all as a player and a manager, who is acknowledged and respected by every pro in the game, and who has us sitting fourth in the Prem, from somebody who in all likelihood only knows football 'from the outside' - i.e. as a fan sitting in the stands. You may be right or wrong about Heskey, Tez (only time will tell), but to claim that MON knows nothing about football is a fairly amusing :o)

Well he's better than Carew at playing a supporting role, he may not get Carews goals but he can head the ball to a team mate (something Carey only manages 1 out of 5 (thats my guess by the way nothing concrete)) and if he gets Gabby up to 20 then thats the same we would have got from Carew with Gabby anyway. Not ideal and if he's got a 5 year deal as mentioned then that is a worry but if we sign another striker I won't worry too much.

I think Heskey will prove a good signing and I'm happy with seeing him come to Villa. 80'000 pw is bull***** of the steamiest sort so I wouldn't read anything in to that. With Heskey in the side I'm confident that we'll see plenty more goals coming from Gabby and right the way across the midfield, Ash, Milner and Sidders in particular. His ability to bring other people into the game is second to none, albeit at the detriment of his own goalscoring record. Worst case scenario guys, at least if Gabby needs a rest we can scare the ***** out of defences by putting Heskey and Carew up front =p

At first I wasn't happy about signing Heskey, but having thought about it I reckon MON will bring the best out of him. Arguably, the most fruitful period of Emile's career has been under O'Neill. MON sold him to Liverpool for 11M about 9 years ago! Yes he's got older, but we should give the guy a chance. At least 3 or 4 matches I think, he may bring the best out in Gabby and Milner?? And if it doesn't work out . . . we'll have the satisfaction of knowing Liverpool wanted him and he came to the Villa. We can't lose on this one!
