What Sort Of Signing Will Heskey Make Then?

Well, it seems to be the worst kept secret at the moment, but it does look like there could be substance in the rumours that Wigan and former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey could be on his way to Villa Park shortly.

The conversation I just had with a very good... wait for it... source... (!!!) ... is sure of the facts. This is a member of the press who I've had dealings with for years and to be fair, when he has said things this firmly, he has never been wrong. Always a first time though, never official until in the shirt on the pitch.

Anyway, you have to back what the manager wants, there aren't that many around at the moment and obviously we don't know who else has been sounded out, as Heskey, despite a blue period (see what I did there?!) is an England regular and does give a big presence up front, despite not scoring a great deal himself. If he can feed off the crosses and help set up Gabby, it could be an interesting run in to the end of season for us.

So we are asking in our latest poll, what sort of signing do you think Emile will make? Just got to get used to not calling him a-mule now (a reference purely because he was in the Leicester City side who used to always beat us + obviously his stint at our rivals across the city!)

Interesting one, not the wow signing that we all hope and pray for but look at the table and you can't help but feel Martin O'Neill might just know what he is doing.

As said, until it is on the official site and he is in the shirt, on the pitch, then it is nothing more than a strong link. But with all the Villa sites now having posts about people being sure he is about to sign, it seems a bit too big of a coincidence.

First of a few signings hopefully!?!

I'll email the Vital Wigan editor and ask some questions for their perspective on this.

Look we will take any striker at the moment with Big John out and Ash out for 3 games we need help up front! But to get another English team player I personally think can only enhance the image of Aston Villa FC for the summer signings. So not only will we get a decent striker and a great holder of the ball, I think the goals can flow from flanks. Not to mention scare the S***T out of defences with speed and intimidation. I would also love to see a game where JC, EH, GABBY & ASH all play up front.

Its entirely plausible, Monny is the one who got Liverpool to pay 11 million for him! he will surely get the best out of him, this transfer suits everyone. heskey to keep england place and give villa more options upfront. I think for those people who doubt this one, Fabio Capello picks him!

King and Heskey out. Mido and the Colombian bloke in. Wigan must be laughing at the same way we all laughed at Wigan a few years ago when they signed Heskey from Blose.

Beefy, you gotta admit, heskey has improved, he has redeemed himself, and a good reason why England have played well. Think its a good bit of business if true.

I'm a massive fan, he stretches defences and plays well with pacey forwards. He's been amazing recently for England (thats a fact). Ask Micheal Own who is the best forward he's payed with - yes you've guessed it. Be interesting to get a Wigan fan's perspective. I think a lot of his detractors in the past have been slightly racist - typical from some factions of England followers.

I thought you were looking to get fourth place?! Heskey won't even be able to keep up with your speed counterattacks. Young and Agbonlahor will out run him! Step back in my opinion, though I won't mind you doing so ;)

While i stil have a grudge about him playing for Blues he will add some thing extra to our squad. Also then we don't always have to rely on big JC becuase he can't do what he does best every single game. So with Heskey there it will take the pressure off JC, which i think will only benefit JC. Also expect Danny Sturridge to sign either during the window or int summer. I speak to his younger brother alot and he is best freinds with a lad from my footie team, and was at my game on sat and he said Danny is keen to come back to Brum just depends on City.

don't think it is a race thing at all Tarzan, he has often disappointed after big money moves. See the goal record article just added. But he will maybe bring something different to the team and we need numbers so ok!

Heskey will do a decent job for us, he's solid, dependable, england international not a moaner...... and his favourite partner is Michael Owen maybe MON has got Heskey in first to help entice Michael to make the switch!

i think his only real failure was his time at the other team in our city and although his ratio gpg is worse at wigan he has adapted his game;he still needs marking so its one less player all over ash or gabby,i think if this be true then maybe it could be a mon masterstroke......lets just hope he doesn't get totally abused after his first couple of misses...

The only 2 bluenoses I know (and neither of them looked like they were on first name terms with a bar of soap - as per usual with the bluenoses...) really loved him and were devastated when he left. Not a great record in front of goal but added loads to the team. MON loves his 'team players' after all... Bring him on!!!! I want Wilf back asap. Then Heskey will do us for a while, not getting any younger and all that, and see what the summer brings!!!

jm3112, lovin the owen link but can't see it, shame. If true then Heskey will be a very honest back up for JC and will soak up the pressure for him and his soft injuries. When playing i agree EH will help Gabby and Ash develop. OK not the wonder signing, but if true then i can see what MON is thinking now. Next please!

Like-for-like replacement for Carew, with the added bonus that Heskey is probably more of a professional. Good move all round.

Gabby will be smacking his lips at the prospect of playing with Heskey and little Mickey Owen may as well hang his boots up for England. Heskey is a great signing for the Villa dressing room. trust in MON.

4M bid accepted... at first I was not really convinced by signing Heskey, but on the other hand, it's the same price we paid for the Hare, and you can't argue Heskey's a higher profile signing..

Come on guys - even if all this means is we have a replacement striker for Marlon who MON won't be wary of calling up off the bench when required - then surely it's another small positive step forward? You can't moan too much for 3mil.

Never been a fan of Heskey but can see why MON would want him, we've missed a focal point in since JC's little night out and EH is a little more mobile than JC. Still would prefer Doyle. Forget Owen and Sturridge is one for the summer.

Everyone is assuming that Marlene is leaving but given his determination to stay, what about JC, marlene and Heskey up front in the last five minutes if we need a change of plan. Marlene with another big man who works could actually bring out the best in him.

i don't like heskey. don't like the way he plays, don't like him for diving around the pitch. he even played for birmingham...but i gotta say its a terrific signing for us. tactically, he is a perfect replacement for carew so whenever one is injured, we always have a target man up there. its not the end of carew either. when fit, carew will definitely play - and sometimes the will play together. it will work, just watch.

Every time I've watched him the ball seems to find him, can just imagine the balls he wins 3/4 the way up the pitch getting turned round the corner for Ash or Gabby to run on to, or laid in front of Barry, Sidwell, Gardner, Milner or Petrov to smash in, DROOLIN BOYS....!!
