'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martin O'Neill Post Moscow Reaction

Martin O'Neill waxed lyrical on the official site after the 1-1 draw with SCKA Moscow last night.

He says the second leg is nicely set up and Villa still have a chance for the return leg in Moscow next week and adds that Villa aren't just about effort, the team has quality as well.

'People talk about effort and endeavour but I take exception about that being mentioned every week. We have some really, really quality players performing for this football club. They are tremendously gifted. Ashley delivers the sort of ball that makes me wish I was still playing. I would score 29 goals per season. He is putting in seriously brilliant deliveries. You do not have to do anything special to score from them. He is an exceptional deliverer.'

Adding, 'Stiliyan was outstanding and Gareth too. I thought Gabby, coming off the centre-half to go short and collect, was brilliant as well. He is still developing. You can see the improvement in the team.'

The Villa boss also explained that James Milner missed the game thanks to a thigh injury and is hopefull he'll be able to return on Saturday against Chelsea.

'James wants to play every game but I took the doctor's advice and left him out. He has a thigh problem. If he had played tonight, he would have been a doubt for the weekend.'

Enjoyed the game . CSKA are obviously a very good side and i thought we matched them. Quite an obvious difference is style of play to the usual premiership team. Still hopefull for the away leg. Did anyone take photo's of the flags ? if so please post them onto the net.

Doesn't say much for our strikers does it if MON thinks it should be easy to score with Ashe setting them up! Still, I fancy us to score out there, so it is nicely set up.

I thought they were rubish, aside from 1 or 2 players they were barely Prem quality and we should have put a few past them. Dissapointing and it's going to be a hard one next week in that weather, on that pitch.

Our strikers need to sort their act out, they cant keep missing glorious chances are it WILL cost us in the long run. The game in Russia will be very tough. Sub zero temperatures, plastic pitch and a stadium full of rowdy Russians. The lads need to score at elast twice to progress into the next round and will have to go for the kill right from the off.

2005 UEFA cup champions are barely prem quality? PTP, what are you on? Actually son_of_cher one goal will do it as long as we don't concede, 2-1 on aggregate.

I've seen them once and that was on Wednesday, from that performance I think they'd find it hard to reach mid table in the Premiership. We should have scored a hat full and if we were on form we would have destroyed them.
