Villa To Offer Stiliyan Petrov A New Contract

The Express & Star today quote the Villa boss saying that Villa will start contract talks with Stiliyan Petrov as soon as the January transfer window ends.



Funny old game, if we'd heard this news a year ago we'd have suggested that Martin O'Neill had taken leave of his sense, but now it is absolutely crucial news!

The 29-year-old Bulgarian international’s present contract runs until the summer of 2010 but MON wants to tie him down to a longer deal.

'We will be dealing with it the minute the transfer window is over....He is playing great. I have the utmost regard for him because he has fought back from a really difficult situation. Sometimes you can never win people over but he has done that himself. I think he has been really big for us this season, consistently excellent, confidence is high now whereas confidence wasn’t that high before,” added the Villa chief.
