50p Coin Thrower Banned For 5 Years
Statement from AVFC:
A man was today banned from all football grounds for five years after admitting throwing a coin that hit a referee's assistant during the Premier League match against Portsmouth at Villa Park last October.
Villa spokesman Steve Tudgay said: 'We are pleased that this matter has reached a satisfactory conclusion through the courts.
'We will now consider whether to extend the duration of the ban from Villa Park as part of our constant review of safety and crowd control procedures and penalties.'

Midlands Today said he'd been banned from ALL Villa games for life. I said somewhere that he was a professional family man. This was no mindless thug but an educated guy with small children. Whatever pushed him to carry out such a dumb a$$ act?

I'm probably going well out on a limb here fellas.. especially as I'm a Pompey fan ... but I'll say what I think anyway... So the guy threw a coin and we all know that is a no-no.. But 5 years ?.. seems a little excessive to me .. make him learned his lesson for sure but come on..

Not that I always do agree with you chix, another Pompey fan here, I think it's a bit steep. We all say things we shouldn't & I would hate to get banned over some politically incorrect moment. Some guy in Bristol punches a man to death & get's 18 months in prison!!! Where's the logic?

They should have banned him for life from the Villa, but given him a season ticket at St Andrews!!
On a serious note, I think a five year ban is about right - we need to be seen to take a tough stance on incidents like this to deter others from doing it.

I think he's got of lighlty, we're putting the name of our club about in the right way, we look lovely at the moment and he's dragged us down with that 50p. 5 year ban from football, sure, but we should ban him for life from the Villa

I think 5 years is fair, lifelong would be excessive though. Any word on how many years Drogba will be banned after he threw a coin at the Burnley Fans? Young kids sat in that area, he could have taken out one of their eyes, ah well he is a footballer so its not as bad is it?

I have to agree with Adam Deuce on midlands today they reported that the guy was banned FOR LIFE from Villa Park (that is a punishment straight from Aston Villa not the law courts). The five year ban is just for any other football games. It seems to me that AVFC have got their heads in the right direction when it comes to any type of violence well done Villa is what i say.

5 years is spot on if you ask me, life would be a farce, well done Villa, this is a guy who like many fans let his passion for the club he loves (i assume) send him doolally, he most likely feels gutted that he put AVFC in a bad light while the club is doing its upmost to make this one of the most freindly places to visit, 5 years..spot on and to the fan that done it bring notes next time ;)

The 5 years isn't from Villa, that was from the court case. I would think he got off lightly for dragging our good name through the mud. Total numpty. The linesman could have been badly hurt and did end up cut. Disgraceful. Personally I'd ban him for life, you just cannot do things like that, pathetic and cowardly. Not seen anything official from Villa about the ban but would think it would be for life.

I'm not a religious guy, and I'm all for punishment, but I do think we need to stop and think here. I wonder how many of us can say we've never done anything really stupid? I can't. I can remember a couple of times on the road when, but for good luck, I could have caused an accident. Don't we need some idea of whether this guy is continually like this, or if it was a complete one-off? Five years is one thing. A life ban gives him no opportunity to redeem himself.

fair point bobthebuilder, thing is though the bloke is 43 and surely should know better by now? This wasn't a silly youth thing? Do agree in some ways if I'd had the book thrown at me in my youth, I'd not be allowed to do anything now! BUT what he did was cowardly and pathetic, dragged our name through the mud and even then until he had been identified he was happy to have remained hiding in the crowd. To injure a lino or anyone for being a at a football game seems a horrible and cowardly thing to do.

I do agree that it was a very, very stupid thing to do, JPF, and there is no real excuse for a 43 year-old man who should have better judgement. I'm only suggesting that we all make stupid mistakes. I guess in an ideal world we would be able to look into people's minds and see how much they regret what they did, but we can't (yet!) Life is nowhere near long enough for somebody who doesn't give a crap, but it's a very long time for being stupid ...

Yup, I'm with you Bob, as you say, sometimes stupidity does over take common sense and madness does descend, especially at football. I'm just bitter he didn't throw the money my way I guess!
