'If It's Football, It's Vital'

MON & Ashley Young's Post Doncaster Reaction

Martin O'Neill spoke after the 3-1 win over Doncaster Rovers - who put up a real fight - and was not only delighted with the win but also the performance of Villa youngster Nathan Delfouneso.. The Fonz according to MON was 'exceptional' apart from his one mistake where he tried to play the ball out of our box giving the ball away leading to Rovers goal.

MON told the official site' 'I was delighted with Nathan - absolutely delighted with him. He gave the ball away for their goal. Outside of that, I thought he was exceptional. He played very well for one so young. I think he is a very capable player.'

Looks like he is coming on strong the same way that Gabby did. What a wonderful youth academy we have to bring through players like this who cost us nothing and end up priceless!

MON also said that the fact John Carew managed 90 minutes was important and says it is a bonus to have the striker back sooner than expected.

'Overall, I am delighted. Doncaster played very well in both games and certainly caused us plenty of problems. Overall, I am really pleased to be through. I love the FA Cup - it is really great - and I am delighted to be in the fifth round.'

Ashley Young also told the official site how honoured, albeit surprised, he was to be captain for the night!

'To lead the boys out was a great feeling and to get the win and get through to the next round topped it off. It's certainly nice to have that 100 per cent record as skipper. But the main thing was getting through and we did that. All credit to Doncaster - they gave us a good game. The score suggests it was comfortable but it was anything but comfortable. But we got the win and that's all that mattered.'

He also says how happy he is to be back in the team after his 3 match ban.
