The Final Jan Transfer Rumours For Villa!

OK, so all is quite on the Western Front, or at least the Villa transfer gossip front. Does that mean something is about to happen or that the door is about to close abruptly for Villa?!?! Who knows!

Martin O'Neill often leaves things until the death, who can forget the spell bindingly exciting arrival of Moustapha Salifou at the 11th hour of a transfer window? Ok, ok, maybe best forgotten come to think about it!

Not really anything concrete going on rumour wise, in fact for me there isn't even a hint of a whisper of a possible rumour. Usually there is something around! I was told that Daniel Sturridge does want to move to Villa and is prepared to wait until the summer if needs be.

Well The Times today seem to expect us to sign him today. They claim we'll grab a defender due tot he absence of Villa captain Martin Laursen and get the signing of the Manchester City striker who can move on a free in the summer.

Other than that the link to Manchester City defender Micah Richards seems to be doing the rounds, he'd be a good signing and would fit into the MON mould of young and English but do Manchester City - especially whilst still in the mix for the relegation fight - really need to sell players? It isn't as if they need money is it?

The reports claim we are prepared to pay £7million for him. I'm sure that is true but I'm not sure Citeh will have any interest letting him go.

Time will tell. The transfer window closes at 5pm.

Stay tuned....!

What do you reckon, a late surprise or the transfer window going out with a fizz instead of a bang?!

I'd like to believe this deafening silence is symbolic of Martin and Randy hurriedly going about their business and getting a deal or two done but can't help but feel we've had our lot. I hope my belief wins over my feeling...

No doubt they're trying, they wouldn't be sitting on their arses drinking horlicks when they've got 6 hours to do something until the summer. Lets hope MON gets lucky, I'm a believer

Fear - it will go with a whimper - no way citeh will sell Richards. We may get that winger from Shrewsbury though.

I hope we get more but dont think Richards will be one of them - any truth in the dealine being extended again because of the weather??

As I said yesterday, Richards performances have been below par for some time, so Man Citeh may well decide to cash in on him at 7million. He may be one of those who has not fulfilled his potential, however at Villa he would have a better chance of becoming a top player, something he has seldom looked like since his first season. I have a feeling he will be a Villa player by the end of the day.

Surely we won't get any joy from Citeh? Better shopping abroad especially given our high flying status UTV

i reckon we will sign someone completely random from azerbaijan or someone who plays in the outer mongolian 3rd divison. whatever the media claim, they often know next to nothing about what MON is planning.

Paper talk says Randy's flown in especially for deadline day. That means there's a surprise or two in store, I reckon. Richards, N'Zog, Sturridge in; Harewood out.

I'd go for Richards, Schanrner, Johnson & Strurridge. Lets tempt Mellberg back....

I think Randy and MON are sitting in a quiet old boozer in Aston having a couple of pints... watching the kids play in the snow outside, jumpers for snotty noses... And the 11th hour yet again Richards & Keane are announced !!!!!! Yeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that if we don't get 1 or 2 more today, then we are really missing the chance to push on and achieve something this year. Somthing we have done many times before...

I'd love to see us go in for Arshavin - just to p**S the gooners off. Surely, we can accommodate him? No?

We don't want arshavin not at this stage of a season we need players that can already play in the premiership without having to settle in.Richards would be great but i think we need a quality left back before him and obviously a goalscorer.

Man City have just sold Ben Haim and Richards is first team - City not linked to many defenders - MICAH RICHARDS IS A NO-GOER!! I would love it but really he aint for sale. The only big-name signings it would seem are Santa Cruz, Arshavin and Keane (if they even happen!!) the Keane and Santa Cruz moves could make other things happen as long as they are not last minute. These may allow Sturridge and Bent to go from their clubs and then MAYBE Sturridge will move now rather than in Summer. Would still love a move for Darren Bent though even if defence is more of a priority!!

It is rather quiet at the min!!!! Not looking like we are going to make any signings at the min, I hope the deadline does get extended and we make at least 1 signing. I would love to see Richards, but I think that is too much for us at the min. Sturrage woulkd be superb and also maybe a midfielder such as Johnson too. Come on MON lets get the deals done.

Spurs have accepted two bids for Dos Santos. One is from Pompy and the other is thought to be Villa. Would be a bargain at 5m. Think Maloney and Routledge..only better!

DOS SANTOS WOULD BE AMAZING!!! He needs a free role behind a front man - he scored a brace on his last game for Barcelona - he CAN be sensational!! I hope this is true.

Deadline only extended when deal agreed in principle and where it can be proved weather has prevented the deal from being completed any earlier.

Dos Santos scored a hat-trick on his last game for Barcelona - I still think Maloney could have had a role (especially after Youngs ban) and he could have slotted in a left wing and Milner could have stayed right. Dos Santos is a MUCH better player - please please please be true - I reckon under O'Neill he would be a world beater!!

Dos Santos's move to Pompy is off as he is apparently not match fit... N'Zogbia has gone to Wigan.

From wikipedia On 10 June 2008, dos Santos passed a medical and agreed terms to complete his move to Tottenham Hotspur from Barcelona. The transfer fee is initially 4.7 million, with the potential to rise to 8.6 million depending on appearances. The deal also includes a sell-on clause of 20% within dos Santos' first two years at Spurs, and 10% thereafter. This means that Spurs would not have to pay the rising costs (which I assume he has not met - therefore they have made a profit - even for 6m they would break-even at least with the extra going to Barca as a sell on) - PLEASE GO FOR IT MON!!

N'Zogbia going to Wigan and us seemingly not makin a bid must mean the Dos Santos deal is a go-er. I would not mind Saviola either - apparently he is looking a move but unfortunatley we have never been linked!!

avgd - i'd tend to agree with you but i was adamant that we would drop like a stone from Jan onwards last year when we did hardly anything in the window but we just kept on going. I wouldnt bet against us doing that again even with just the one signing. i think our strength comes from a small squad and a settled team so lets hope for not too many injuries and suspensions and hopefully we can still be there come may.

What a load of *****. Theres no excuse for not signing anyone. Spurs bought Keane back in less than 24 hours while we potter around being linked with a load of nobodies. Very upset.

Life can now return to normal, and once again we can concentrate on the action and developments on the pitch. This January window is so flawed, lets hope that the powers that be can improve upon it, or ultimately do away with it altogether.
