Martin O'Neill's Post Wigan Match Reaction

Martin O'Neill spoke after the amazing 0-0 with Wigan this afternoon at Villa Park. I say amazing because we had so many chances, a possible penalty, a ball that might have crossed the line as well as at least two goal line clearances!

The Villa boss praised the sides relentless effort admitting 'We couldn't force the ball over the line - it just wasn't to be.'

And on the effort given he said: 'In terms of application the team were absolutely terrific. Wigan defended great - they were very resilient. On another day, we could have scored three or four but not this afternoon. It really was relentless. It wasn't just one chance every 10 minutes - it was non-stop. But it didn't happen for us. I am immensely proud of the team and I told them that after the game. It was a big, big effort.'

'They are putting a phenomenal effort into every game - a physical effort. It has been terrific. They work so hard and want to keep going. And they are also getting a lot of enjoyment out of being in this position.'

And for those that weren't there but listened on the radio, I think you'll find the booing was aimed at the awful awful awful referee Rob Styles who really should hang up his boots and whistle, he is incapable of getting any decision correct and should really also hang his head (in shame) !

Must admit MON was funny today, he never stands still anyway but today he was like a puppet on the string, out of his coaches area and half way down the touchline! I think Villa should attach him to a piece of rubber so he can only stray so far, might give the 4th official (who was laughing today) less to do!!!!!!!!!
