John Carew Fit For Wigan Clash

Martin O'Neill has revealed that big John Carew is in the squad for our game against Steve 'Mr Potato Head' Bruce's Wigan Athletic.

O'Neill told the official site: 'John played 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Derby and is feeling good.

So did Wilfred Bouma, but he is obviously not quite there yet.

O'Neill revealed 'Marlon picked up an injury - on his instep - this week so John comes in and that's good news.

Adding - 'He hasn't had much match practice but it's still very encouraging. Offensively, it's very positive for us.'

If he can make the impact from the bench he did when we played Wigan at the JJB it could prove a big boost for us!!!

He will face stiff competition from big heskey now tho, i expect them both to keep each other firing on all cylinders. I expect we will see 10 mins of him as a late sub.

"JC comes back the week we buy a replacement. Great." For heaven's sake Mancuni - if we don't sign a number of backups for every position people complain about the size of the squad and the lack of alternatives. If we do sign them, you still complain! Lol!

Heskey was not a replacement FFS! If Man U can have Rooney, Berbatov,Tevez. Then im quite sure we can keep our strike force happy. Its all about competiotion for places something JC has never had at Villa.

Interesting what 3 months rest can do for a player, lets hope he comes back with his shooting boots on and the 'total menace' version appears.

Harewood is 'injured' ?? thats what they always say before they leave... As for John Carew, I have a sneaky feeling MON might leave Gabby on the bench and play Carew and Heskey together like a huge battering ram against Wigan, and then bringing on Gabby later on.... makes me feel sorry for those Wigan defenders :)

Carew and Heskey together up front would be a good call against Wigan, they have a big back four, let them both wear them down and then send gabby out for the last 20, that would be a nightmare for their defence.

Great to see that MON is claiming that Carew is in the squad. Let's look forward next to the day when MON claims that Freddie Bouma is in the squad too. Go JC!

I agree Mattyslost, but Tevez doesn't seem too happy about the situation...and MU have got Champions League football on offer.

I wouldn't want to be Titus Bramble facing big John and big Emile! Then again, i wouldn't be keen on being Bramble at the best of times...

Great news. Prem defences had better watch out for the battering rams. 4-3-3 with JC, Heskey and Gabby up front :D

When you're talking about competion bringing the best out of players, it can only be an attititude that can be changed cos you can't suddenly inject a load of skill. Think we will find Heskey does not need an improved attitude, Carew though??????
