Leighton Baines? Villa's Tuesday Transfer Talk

The only link today is in The Mirror . They claim that Villa are after Everton left-back Leighton Baines.

Apparently Villa are willing to offer 27-year-old summer recruite Nicky Shorey as part of the deal. They say the former Reading man wants first team football. Strange he's made no impact whatsoever since joining Villa, does beg the question, would Everton want him if he can't make our first team with our established left-back Freddie Bouma out injured?

The Mirror say that the Villa boss is a fan of player, (how many times have we read this during the transfer window).

Baines moved according to the Everton official site for an undisclosed fee, although the red top says it was £6million from Wigan in the summer of 2007.

Baines is an Everton fan, so would he want a move? The paper claim we can offer cash and Shorey and put Baines on better wages.

And that, as far as I can see gossip wise, is that for the day. How boring this transfer window is becoming. 20 days in and still no excitement....!!!!

Come on Villa, break the bank and get us Didier Drogba from Chelsea! I also hear Robinho might be available after storming out of Manchester City! lol

Baines has finally broken into Everton's 1st team and NOW we are linked to him...what a load of tosh! Coould have believed it if it was last season but not now.
In MON we trust!
Its getting to that stage again now where I'm starting to worry we'll panic buy or spend twice as much as we should on a player, worse still not sign anyone. On another note, not sure why MON had felt the need to fine Young £56000, it was just a miss timed challenge, nothing malicious. I'm sure MON knows best but I can't understand that one, I'd be scared of putting in a challenge in case it cost me my wages!!

I reckon they saw him play yesterday, added that to Villa on the look out for a left back, put 2 and 2 together and got 59. He was boss against liverpool yesterday though.

I look at MON's signings and i cant really say that any were panic buy's. I think he likes to gamble on the underdog, but rarely splashes the cash on a gamble. Take Routledge/Maloney/Salifou for example... Baines is decent and a better option than Bouma & Shorey but like it has been said, he is an Everton fan and i really dont see him being interested in a move away. On the subject of Young's fine, I think it's important to discipline the player. He's not untouchable and he should be punished. A weeks wages is fair!
Hitman
He'll only have £56,000 to live on for 14 days instead of 7. Poor thing.
Mancuni-villa
One average signing to replace another. No point. Move on.

load of crap.

Bouma is twice the player Baines is if he comes back soon and doesn't weight 15st like he did when he first cames to us then we don't need a left back!
GDAD22
I hope we get some serious links to a striker soon! Left back is not as important as a striker!
villa_de
Harewood 4m, Knight 3.5m, Shorey 5m all late panic buys imo. Also agree there is nothing wrong with discipline but does this mean all sendings off deserve 2 weeks fine. Violent conduct or improper conduct fair enough but not for misstimed tackles!
pjvilla
It was more to do with the fact it was a two footed upturned tackle Pjvilla... I don't think it was anything to do with being mistimed.

Baines has been a massive failure at Everton for one reason or another, but he's has FINALLY broken into the team now. I think this 6 game spell is the longest run of games he's ever played for us, which in itself tells it's own story. But with the size of our squad, we really can't afford to let anyone go. Just look at our bench vs 'that lot' Nash, V D Meyde, Kissock, Jutkeiwicz, Rodwell, Gosling and Castillo. If we sold Baines, one of that shower of *****e would have to play (to be fair Rodwell and Gosling have potential), even with Shorey in return - I think he's massivly overrated and really don't rate him at all - There's no way Moyes would go for this.

It's just column filling on the Mirror's part. Mon keeps his cards close to his chest and it must frustate the hell out of those journo's out there.
