Juan Pablo Angel A Hit In The States

Former Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel scored the winning goal for MLS All-Stars against Scottish giants Celtic on Thursday. His performance earnt him the man of the match award.

The All Star's coach, Steve Nicol, said: 'Juan's goal was just a fantastic finish. One-on-one with the goalie, keeps calm, goes around him and puts in the net -- a superb finish.'

Meanwhile, the Columbian striker said on MLSnet.com:

'I really enjoyed the night tonight. I wasn't expecting it -- I've been here just a very short period of time. But I have enjoyed every minute of my time here. It's been a pretty hectic time for me since I got here, but I'm loving it and I won't look back. I will always be thankful to Aston Villa, they gave me an incredible chance to play for them for a number of years. But this is a new chapter in my career and I'm looking forward to it.'

JPA has scored nine goals in eleven games for the New York Red Bulls.

I think he deserves it; he was an excellent professional at Villa but just found the league a bit difficult for his style of play. South American's are always hit or miss in the Prem but can go to other leagues, like Spain or Italy, and do well. Ialso think he was one of the players that worked out O'Dreary earlier than some of the other players which is why he never regained the form of O'Dreary's first season.

Couldn't put it better, I wish him luck. And the mighty Celtic rumbled by the MLS all stars, hey ? well I never.....where is foerverhoop ?

There is only Juan....

He's been awesome. I live in NYC and, since JPA joined, I've been trying to go to all the home matches (which are actually played in New Jersey stupidly). The football's pretty bad at times, decent at others, but defensees here are not what they are there and Angel's finding it easier to score than not. What a guy!

MLS All-Stars are a pretty classy side and gel together quicker and better than England ever do, dare I say?!? They've stuffed Chelsea a season or two back and generally hump all European teams.

A great move for JPA, now playing in a less demanding league. I hope he continues to do well for them. Maybe a testimonial could be arranged to thank him for his loyal service over the last seven? seasons. Although very well paid, he's always stayed truly professional despite all the internal politics with the previous two managers and "Deadly".

I'm glad a player of the calibre of JPA and with such a great attitude is finally enjoying his football again. I was convinced that he'd be able to bang them him like crazy again in the MSL, and I'm delighted it happens. A testimonial would definetely be a good idea!
delirium
This proves that everybody can score in there league. He was one of our greatest and loyal players all the best to him. His still better than mido and could probly still cut it in the prem. Good luck for the future and we hope to see you again at villa as a coach.

Not sure about a testimonial villacross (just been to Selema by the way, lovely steaks!) but would be nice for him to return for a game and get to say bye to the fans before a game or at half time. I think the club are aware of this via the Generals threads.
The Fear
Not so much a testimonial, but would love to see a 2 leg game between NY and Villa, one there and one here. Angel was always a favorite of mine (and on football manager games one of the few players i refused to sell (shove him as an attacking mid on LMA and he's lethal!!!)) wish him all the best and would love to see him back at VP for a game or 2!
Makai
Love watching him chew up MLS defendersgood on ya, JPA!
gwyllum18
He was tripe and the fact he is doing so well over there says more about the standard of their league than it does about Angel as a player.
mackaavfc
Sorry to diasagree with you mackaavfc but JPA was class. His main problem was lack of service over long periods. When he was fit and confident he was the real thing. I will miss him. Good luck JPA.
return of godzvilla
He's a very popular little bunny in the Big Apple right now, glad its all working out for him. Took his goal well, breaking a five game duck of not scoring, and according to the ESPN commentator, a five game streak of not even having a shot on goal. I like JPA though, always did, so good luck to the guy.
glensider
Got to agree with return of godzvilla by the way. During his time at Brummagem B6, JPA often lacked the service on which his game thrived. Admittedly it wasn't the only reason for his perceived 'failings', but it did play a huge part.
