No Reason To Doubt The Villa Board

No Reason To Doubt The Villa Board

I can fully understand while fans are getting desperate the longer the summer goes on. The only two signings so far have been just about acceptable (Nigel Reo-Coker) and downright questionable (Marlon Harewood). But the board and management have still given us no reasons to doubt that what they originally said - about going for decent players and having a five-year plan - will not happen.

In fact, as Martin O'Neill and Marlon Harewood have said, it is clear that the latest signing has joined as a squad player who knows he is in for the fight of his career to hold down a regular spot. If that does happen then that means he will be playing superlative football. If not, then at least there is an option on the bench to be brought on if need be, or to cover injuries.

But just because there are worries is no reason for fans to start making 'targets' out to be far better players that they are!

I've read comments about Craig Gordon that make him look like the best goalkeeper in the world. And what do the 'Gord-God' lot have to back this up (not more than the briefest idea about Scottish football, trust me)? Oh, that's right - the wondrous thing that is a YouTube clip.

Now YouTube is good for some things, but showing a fair reflection of a player isn't one of them. Heck, I could make a 10 minute tape of practically any professional player in the UK and make him look at least 50 times better than he is. But because of this desperation, that seems to be enough.

It's shocking and embarrassing - and it seems that because a few people on a few Villa sites have conned those who read them that Gordon is the answer to Villa's problems between the sticks, a lot of fans will be royally pissed off if he doesn't sign. And that's if he's even being watched.

Gordon is shaky. He's bad in the air, dodgy at crosses, and has a terrible command of his defence. Sure, he's a good shot-stopper but a player needs an all round footballing brain. A brick wall could stop even the fiercest of shots, but it couldn't think for itself when required.

So please, just because the players aren't coming in don't fall for the rubbish shooting around the web that Gordon is worth £9million. Perhaps - perhaps - he may be worth £3.5million. But that's it. Untried, untested, unreliable, unneeded by Villa!

Roy Keane has announced he's dropping his interest in Gordon, so maybe he agrees with Neil Baker!

Trust me on this one. He's one of those keepers who looks good at a young age and you think "oh, he'll develop and become great" but then never gets any better. But I wouldn't be shocked if he stayed at Tynecastle beacuse Hearts' owner is, erm, a character, shall we say?!?

I personally feel we should ditch Taylor and get Boaz back to vie with Tommy for the No.1 jersey. I've never seen Gordon play ditto Schneider, De Jong, Drenthe and all these others being bandied about therefore I don't make comment on how good or bad they are. I just know that that is why we have scouts who are employed to do this and I trust in them and MON to get it right. Let's face it, the last time we signed somebody based on reputation and video footage, we ended up with Bosko!! Nuff said....

YouTube could make Djemba-Djemba look good... Savo 'Spit-a-lot-ovic' was signed on the basis of video footage and we all know how that story ended....

I'd agree with those of you questioning Gordon. Those who have seen him play (except for Hearts fans, though you have to feel sorry for them with their owners!) would laugh at the idea of £9million for Gordon.

We already have a decent shot stopper who flaps at crosses and isn't in command of his defence-and he didn't cost 9 mill. There is still plenty of time to sign players-relax (want to get excited and negative, try a different "Villa Blog").

I'm just impressed that our resident Gretna fan now cares enough about the might Villa and it's supporters to look after our interests in such an intelligent and reasoned way. Welcome on board as a Villa fan, I bet that if we were to cut yo open Neil, you would be all Claret and Blue inside :-p
