So Who Will Villa Sign - Part 7

So Who Will Villa Sign - Part 7

The seventh instalment of our summer long gossip column!

We've already had nearly 3 million (ahem) rumours, arguments and links!

So Who Will Villa Sign Pt 6 - Click Here

I must admit I'd hoped we'd have been talking about the great signings we've made by now, instead we are still getting the manager saying they are working hard to bring in new players. Oh well, there is always tomorrow, or the day after I guess! At least we know there is money there to spend once players can be attracted, just got to hope that the fact we aren't in Europe this coming season isn't proving to be a major block on big name arrivals. We need at least one big name to put down a marker for the season surely?

Anyway, here continues the rumours thread on the front page. See a story linking us with a player? Share it with us all. Heard a tenuous link, or seen a player around Villa Park? Let us know! Oh, and although I'll do my best to announce incoming players as soon as possible, if you hear of a signing before I do, wang it on this thread as well.

The January thread ended up with nearly 2000 article comments, spaced over several articles (the limit per article is now 400 after I got it raised, anymore than that and it slows things down too much so I'll change the threads over each time we hit the limit!)

So Far.

Paper talk...Sunderland will bid 9mill for craig gordon!? Keanos going a bit mad with the cash i feel. Chelsea don't wanna sell SWP to spurs as kenyon sees spuds as title contenders (good villa news?) Middlesvilla and man citeh in for young (no mention of villa, bad villa news?) and mido to blues 5 mill, now if he joined us that would have been a hefty front line, but questions on his temperament liked to moan alot so they can have him. Marvellous Marlon for England! so says MON. UTV Repost couldn't see and thus thought no one else could. carry on.

Wouldn't really fancy Mido, spurs fans slate him but .... looks like a decent deal, year loan then a £5million fee if they want him. Also agree, Craig Gordon to Sunderland, should be coming to villa. The money is there, it us up to MON to say who he wants and the club will try to attract that player. Wonder if anyone has turned our advances down?

Mr Fear - You've missed Davis off your "Players Out " list.

well i guess MON has to be optimistic on Marvellous Marlon doesn't he? To me it looks like Defoe turned us down. I'm worried if Robben leaves Chelsea then they won't sell SWP. Looks like MON is going to wait to see what happens with that one.

Chelsea have said they are not going to sell Robben but I did notice that SWP played for Chelsea last night and set up the goal. I'm not sure if they are going to sell him but I have to say if he is available for £12m I think he is owrth this and we should have a go at getting him.
18/07/2007 12:02:00
mourinho has stated today Robens not leaving - all good news.
18/07/2007 12:04:00
I think a signing like SWP would probably settle everyone down a bit
The Usual Suspect
18/07/2007 12:06:00
Arsenal are in for SWP now too, again, according to a dubious website. i'm liking the lucho gonzalez link, but have heard nothing since sunday. Big bob howell says we still in for another long term (defoe)striker, and as kenyon wont sell to spurs SWP could be heading here. Its all confusing...
18/07/2007 12:14:00
Come on guys get real, why would SWP join Villa? Other than (possibly) a guaranteed game each week. He's on 65k per week at Chelski and they want 15m for him. I say we look for better value and players who want to join us. Craig Gordon is way too much at 9m, again I say we look at better value options. We need a right back, centre back and goalie - one or two injuries to key players and we'll end up with a Matalan Goalkeeper and an unfit Frenchmen at full back like last season!
18/07/2007 12:18:00
I still think if we are going to sign a goalkeeper then it has to be Jaaskelianen. I also think we need a right back (Luke Young), a wide midfield player, (Sneijder has now said that if he is going to move it must be before the start of the season he will not move once the season is underway) and I would like to see us sign another centre back. I would assume Jaaskelianen will cost £3-4m. It has been said Young can go for £2.7m but I think £3.5m is more realistic. I think it would be £10-12m for Sneijder, although Ajax do not have to sell after they sold Babel to Liverpool. At centre half I would sign Luis Perea from Athletico Madrid. He is quick, strong, experienced and would be a good addition to our squad. I think the fee would be £4-5m for him. If we took the higher fees this would total £24.5m. Considering MON has already spent £11.7m on the squad but has brought in £6m.Therefore a net outlay of £5.7m. It was rumoured that we had £30m to spend and this would take us just slightly over budget at £30.2m.
