So Who Will Villa Sign - Part 7

The seventh instalment of our summer long gossip column!

We've already had nearly 3 million (ahem) rumours, arguments and links!

So Who Will Villa Sign Pt 6 - Click Here

I must admit I'd hoped we'd have been talking about the great signings we've made by now, instead we are still getting the manager saying they are working hard to bring in new players. Oh well, there is always tomorrow, or the day after I guess! At least we know there is money there to spend once players can be attracted, just got to hope that the fact we aren't in Europe this coming season isn't proving to be a major block on big name arrivals. We need at least one big name to put down a marker for the season surely?

Anyway, here continues the rumours thread on the front page. See a story linking us with a player? Share it with us all. Heard a tenuous link, or seen a player around Villa Park? Let us know! Oh, and although I'll do my best to announce incoming players as soon as possible, if you hear of a signing before I do, wang it on this thread as well.

The January thread ended up with nearly 2000 article comments, spaced over several articles (the limit per article is now 400 after I got it raised, anymore than that and it slows things down too much so I'll change the threads over each time we hit the limit!)

So Far.

Out:

Jlloyd Samuel
Gavin McCann
Lee Hendrie
Robert Olejnik
Stephen Henderson
Aaron Hughes

In:

Nigel Reo-Coker from West Ham £8.5m.
Marlon Harewood, from West Ham for around £3.7million

Paper talk...Sunderland will bid 9mill for craig gordon!? Keanos going a bit mad with the cash i feel. Chelsea don't wanna sell SWP to spurs as kenyon sees spuds as title contenders (good villa news?) Middlesvilla and man citeh in for young (no mention of villa, bad villa news?) and mido to blues 5 mill, now if he joined us that would have been a hefty front line, but questions on his temperament liked to moan alot so they can have him. Marvellous Marlon for England! so says MON. UTV Repost couldn't see and thus thought no one else could. carry on.
villain76
Wouldn't really fancy Mido, spurs fans slate him but .... looks like a decent deal, year loan then a £5million fee if they want him. Also agree, Craig Gordon to Sunderland, should be coming to villa. The money is there, it us up to MON to say who he wants and the club will try to attract that player. Wonder if anyone has turned our advances down?
The Fear
Mr Fear - You've missed Davis off your "Players Out " list.
Adam Deuce
well i guess MON has to be optimistic on Marvellous Marlon doesn't he? To me it looks like Defoe turned us down. I'm worried if Robben leaves Chelsea then they won't sell SWP. Looks like MON is going to wait to see what happens with that one.
Its All Over FC
Chelsea have said they are not going to sell Robben but I did notice that SWP played for Chelsea last night and set up the goal. I'm not sure if they are going to sell him but I have to say if he is available for £12m I think he is owrth this and we should have a go at getting him.
notthedougellisstand
mourinho has stated today Robens not leaving - all good news.
tylervilla
I think a signing like SWP would probably settle everyone down a bit
The Usual Suspect
Arsenal are in for SWP now too, again, according to a dubious website. i'm liking the lucho gonzalez link, but have heard nothing since sunday. Big bob howell says we still in for another long term (defoe)striker, and as kenyon wont sell to spurs SWP could be heading here. Its all confusing...
villain76
Come on guys get real, why would SWP join Villa? Other than (possibly) a guaranteed game each week. He's on 65k per week at Chelski and they want 15m for him. I say we look for better value and players who want to join us. Craig Gordon is way too much at 9m, again I say we look at better value options. We need a right back, centre back and goalie - one or two injuries to key players and we'll end up with a Matalan Goalkeeper and an unfit Frenchmen at full back like last season!
tarzan
I still think if we are going to sign a goalkeeper then it has to be Jaaskelianen. I also think we need a right back (Luke Young), a wide midfield player, (Sneijder has now said that if he is going to move it must be before the start of the season he will not move once the season is underway) and I would like to see us sign another centre back. I would assume Jaaskelianen will cost £3-4m. It has been said Young can go for £2.7m but I think £3.5m is more realistic. I think it would be £10-12m for Sneijder, although Ajax do not have to sell after they sold Babel to Liverpool. At centre half I would sign Luis Perea from Athletico Madrid. He is quick, strong, experienced and would be a good addition to our squad. I think the fee would be £4-5m for him. If we took the higher fees this would total £24.5m. Considering MON has already spent £11.7m on the squad but has brought in £6m.Therefore a net outlay of £5.7m. It was rumoured that we had £30m to spend and this would take us just slightly over budget at £30.2m.
notthedougellisstand
According to BBC site, Robben has agreed terms with Real Madrid and the clubs are trying to agree a fee. Also states Chelsea are replacing him with Drenthe, the Dutch under 21 winger. If Drenthe were to replace Robben maybe SWP would still be allowed to leave.
notthedougellisstand
and he wouldn't want to....
tarzan
I know that it is obvious to all but MON has stated on the official site that his priority is a right back but there are indications that Young isn't his first choice - I wish I knew who was.
pongo wearing
Well on another site apparently MONs 'balked' at the idea of 4 million for YOUNG. He's the only RB to my knowledge we've been linked too or interested in. Has Ian Storey-Moore got his eye on someone? who knows.
villain76
We were linked to De Jong a while back, he can play right back.
weller77
i should bloody well hope so - its his job. we really do need a big name signing to appease the masses. villa are getting ridiculed for signing crazy frog, and rightly so in my opinion. last season we had a squad too small to see the season through, in pre-season we have got rid of 8 (eight) and brought in only 2. Now putting 2 and 2 together here, i reckon that means, according to logic, we should be looking at signing 7 (seven) more players, in order to have greater numbers than last season. now i'll allow for one or two youngsters to come into the first team squad (perhaps stieber), but surely we should be signing more players than the few that has been suggested in the press?!
ric112
The reason for the wait for a RB must be because we are waiting for access to speak to the number 1 target. MON has publicly stated we need a RB.
tarzan
Doesn't SWP play at RB (badly!)
tarzan
ric I'd stop using the arguments about our crap players leaving (who didn't play despite the thin squad). We need signings of players who want to play for us, you cannot put a price on that. Big name signings are for the future maybe. a RB & goalie would be fine.
tarzan
Ric of those 12 you talk about only Hughes and McCann saw prolonged first team action. Davis made 13 starts and I think the rest played less than 10 games between them. Therefore if we sign 4 more players the squad has seen an increase in numbers who are going to actually be part of the first team. Hopefully this will also result in an increase in the quality of the squad.
notthedougellisstand

notthedougellisstand
We need a Jimmy Rimmer type goalie!
tarzan
Contribution is the key, not just numbers.
tarzan
It's a tad annoying that Davis and Angel aren't on the outs list. Also the prices on the outs would be good. The calculations remind me of the "Ellis maths" we used to put up with!
tarzan
By my calculations 7m in that's a net spend of 5.2m, plus a saving on wages. Have the twins departed on loan yet? 7k per week for each of them!
tarzan
Tarzan where is the £7m from. £4m Davis, £1m McCann and £1m Hughes
notthedougellisstand
What's 1m between friends! I had Davis for 4.5m and Maccan at 1.5m. Usually these fees increase depending on success/appearances. JPA, Jloyd and Hendrie were on wads too
tarzan
In that case Tarzan, you can loan me that £1m if you want lol. Angel was on £45,000 per week, I think Jlloyd was on £14,000 p/w and Hendrie was on £12,000 p/w. McCann and Hughes must have been on £15,000 plus p/w each and Davis only signed a new contract at the start of last season. I would agree the wage bill has been slashed from last season but I still think at the end of this transfer window these players will have been replaced with better players and the quality and depth of the squad will have been improved. Therefore the wage bill will be higher at the end of the window.
notthedougellisstand
I agree, a balanced motivated squad with most players contributing is key. Not easy to acheive nowadays. I'm worried about experienced cover at CB (Laursen), GK & RB (Delaney).
tarzan
I'm really going to enjoy Spurs struggling to get in the top 8 next season, doesnt matter who you sign the expectation will ruin you, again. My brother is a Spurs supporter so I have always had a soft spot for them. Not anymore Chalky.
PBAVFC
im sure MON has said that the players out have paid for NRC so if that is the case we have only spent £3.7mill so far..!
deemz
Witrhout lowering myself to Chalkys level (you know, Chalky, the hero guy who never larges it on Man U, Liverpoo or Chelsea threads...yeah that's him), hands up or text on this post if you think he's a proper juvenile juanker...
koolbill
He's a character invented by the "comedian" Jim Davidson
tarzan
Any rumours this evening boys?
tarzan
i see what you are saying tarzan but i don't agree. mccann, hughes, hendrie, angel, sutton, samuel, davis are all good squad players to have if you require numbers to get through an injury crisis. A couple of those are worthy first-teamers. I'd rather they stayed, and we made 2-3 ambitiously good signings who would make the first team with ease. Alternatively as that many have left, we'll need all players replaced, some young and ambitious, some who already make the grade.
ric112
most of those players were living on past glories, except Davis who obviously wanted a new contract without staying to fight for a first team place. We should look at Everton as models in my opinion, they have achieved the same success as Spurs on a fraction of the transfer budget. The manager and players seem to be a class act.
tarzan
Senderos, Luke Young, SWP, Jussi Carson and Gordon are the names being banded about.
tarzan
MON says he was overseas when he phoned Wham about Marvelous Marvon. Do you think he may have been talking to some potential signings??? Or was it a well deserved break from the dizzying world of the transfer merry-go-round?
myleftfoot
If Everton had the money they would be spending it,just like you would be too.MON has spent £30mill but has he "really" strengthed you...??Your pretty much where O"leary had you,i saw Young have 1 good game last year btw (v sheff utd) so lets not go overboard hey,MON benched him he was that bad..!!
chalky76
http://www.avfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Squad/SeniorSquad/0,,10265,00.html THAT'S SOME CLEAR OUT
chasrack
Christ now someone else is havin a go.
Pking
And why is havin a go at Everton?
Pking
Sky reporting L.Young is only going to Pompey or Boro so if MON wants him then i hope he has his mobile number !
ASPINALL
MON probably doesn't want L Young.
myleftfoot
Chalky, you really are talking ***** mate. Of course we've strengthened our squad. Carew - proven CL quality and easily replaces Angel. Young - looked blinding for Watford, was a bit unsettled after the move but turned in some exciting performances at the tail end of last season. Maloney - a snip at a million with the talent he's got. Petrov - had a rough time but played with an injury for so long and showed flashes of brilliance. Reo Coker - ball winning, strength and commitment, better than McCann too. Harewood - a goal every three games was one of the stats I read and I'm sure MON will bring the best out of him. So, yeah, I think you can say we've strengthened significantly. Spurs have spent a lot this summer but 3 of the four players you've brought in are unproven in the Premiership and you've spent a massive amount on a position that you don't really need cover for as you've already got three world class forwards. Ledley is great, but injury prone and Dawson is ok at best. I hope Jol has got some cash left for your defence as it looks like Chimbonda could be buggering off to Chelsea and it was your weak area last season if you include the dodgy goalie in the defence. Not having a go because as a club I don't mind Spurs, but with the amount of cash spent, the expectations have grown and I really do think it is make or break for Jol. Top 4 or bust! The pressures on!
Rawlie
Make no mistatke the pressure is on MON too, but in a different way. It doesn't matter wether you believe that some peoples expactations are unrealistic or not. The fact is expectations have been poorly managered at the club and people were lead to believe that exciting signing were on the way. There is still a long way to go b4 the transfer deadline so there still may be some pleasant surprises in store for us. I have my doubts about this, but that is probably 25 years of under achievement speaking. The pressure upon MON to succeed is because he hasn't made star signing (funny situation compared to Jol who is under pressure because he has made star signings) Funny old game. I have complete faith in MON's ability to bring the best out of the players that we have at our disposal. The question still remains though - is their best good enough - I hope so. Either way we are a stronger team already - even though the squad size may be smaller. Some more squad players and I think we will be a very solid if unspectacular team. A team to build upon. With this team we may or may not be in the running for Europe but one thing we will be - very difficult to beat. UTV for ever
myleftfoot
Justin Hoyte being linked in the mirror, interesting new target. If it is and not more paper talk.
villain76
Hoyte would be a good buy, according to the mirror he would only cost 2.5 mil. He's only 22 with loads of potential.
jonah
The big advantage with Hoyte is that he can lay in both fullback positions.
notthedougellisstand
sorry that should read play
notthedougellisstand
thats what is known as a Freudian slip notthedoug etc. :-)
jonah
Hoyte was dreadful when on loan at Sunderland when they were relegated 2 seasons ago but played a number of games for Arsenal last season due to Eboue being injured/suspended and i thought he did ok, Not sure if he is what we need at R/B
deemz
I think Hoyte will be a bad buy for you, no not because he is an Arsenal player but simply because he is not good enough. I remember when he was on loan at Sunderland and Aaron Lennon absolutely ripping him to shreds at both RB and LB, I remember Routledge doing the same!!! He reminds me of Glen Johnson, was touted as the future England RB but doesn't look like he is going to fullfil his potential. Luke Young is your best bet.
OneAaronLennon
It would appear that O Neill has dropped his intrest in Young.
Pking
Good post OAL, if what you say is correct, it's no surprise that either Portsmouth or Sunderland have purchased said players. Who would you say would be a good but for us? Luke Young? He seems to be chasing the filthy cash.... Or Charlton are wanting to squeeze every penny out of him.
tarzan
I think it is more of Charlton trying to get every penny out of him. After all, they did get an extra £6 million out of us for Darren Bent. I think that relegated players are just desperate to get back to the premiership, Young didn't appear to be driven by money in his time at Spurs and Bent rejected £75,000 a week to come to us for £45,000 a week. If Young has the right head on his shoulders he will see that Villa are showing signs of progression and ambition and he will turn away from the money.
OneAaronLennon
Sheffield Utd have fought off competition from Tamworth to sign Lee Hendrie on a Free! I guess no premiership club actually wanted him then. At least there'll be no more stupid stories in the press about who is courting the waster.
The Usual Suspect
See that Ian Wright has given his blessing to SWP joining Spurs. Not that bothered personally, he's never lived up to his potential. Just goes to show that all these people with "inside knowledge - he's signing for us before friday etc etc" really are talking bollox. Let's just sit back and see what/who materialises. Like the link to Justin Hoyte, another youngster with bags of promise.
Jon.H
OneAaronLennon, nice post matey.
Jon.H
"He's never lived up to his potential", I think that is quite harsh on SWP. He was and is still one of the best wingers in the premiership on form, and statistics show that he is almost always on form when he is given a run of games. Chelsea f***ed up his career but at Spurs he has the chance to revive it again and challenge Aaron Lennon for a starting spot for both Spurs and England. I am excited about the potential signing of SWP as it will mean we have a VERY strong squad going into next season. IMO he is a more complete version of Aaron Lennon, ie better shooting and crossing. £12 million is a bargain for whoever gets him!!!
OneAaronLennon
I think SWP is a player (like Crouch and Defoe) who's stock has risen in the closed season, for no reason whatsoever. 20m for Crouch?? 9m for a Scottish goalkeeper who hasn't even kicked a ball in top class football. Crouch won't get a kick this season either with Kuht, Voronin and Torres to pick from
tarzan
We have been linked to Lens keeper Charles Itandje today, anybody know anything about him..?
deemz
Will you have to change your name to OneShaunWrightPhillips ?
Jon.H
i for one am sad to see hendrie go. not that he is an amazing player at the moment, but because he's our longest serving player. i have a bit of nostalgia, reminiscing about the days when lee hendrie deserved to keep his place in the england squad. used to be one of my favourite players. i think he deserves more respect from some quarters.
ric112
Seriously though, he has had two seasons to force his way into the Chelsea team and doesn't appear to have made much headway. That is disappointing considering how much he cost them. Maybe he is a bit overhyped at the moment based on recent history?
Jon.H
Ric112, Lee Hendrie is the biggest waste of space to ever play for this club. He is a complete and utter w*&%er and I'm glad to see the back of him. Goodbye and good riddance
notthedougellisstand
Surely Chelski won't sell SWP to Spurs as they see them as title rivals this season (their words not mine!).
tarzan
got to agree with notthe... Hendrie could play well but only for the few games leading up to a contract renewal. Then he was off on the *****, missing from training, getting sent off, and his fitness was poor. He really was in it for the money. I can see why no premiership outfit wants him.
The Usual Suspect
After the years break Ellis is now fully recharged & have perfected his bike kick once more & he is hoping to complete his dream of playing for Villa if only as a sub
FatKev
Matt Taylor to Everton, we have to bid.
tarzan
1 departing player likes a line of the white stuff, glad to see the back of him, WASTER.
chasrack
I've left a comment about Charles Itandje on the other post...I've already seen him perform, and to me, he's not the man for the job.I hope this is only paper talks...
delirium
wow. ive found the anti-hendrie website alliance.
ric112
leave hendrie alone. He is orange and is a bit flash but he's villa through and through and that makes him one of us. Also if rumours are to beleived it was him who gave potatoe head that pasting when they were both bruised up - so on that rumour alone he gets in my good books. . . . looking forward to singing sit down potatoe head again this year. Come on the boys!!!!!!!
bigdiondubs
Drenthe has stated "i know where i want to go,but will keep it to myself for now" Sky seem to think (incorrectly) that it`s Chelsea or Real Madrid but i have a feeling it`s sunny Sutton Coldfield where he wants to live,YES!!!.
ASPINALL
The yak is off to man citeh allegedly, if so the citeh certainly aren't hanging about in the transfer market. The merry go round continues apace
villain76
He is not one of us bigdiondubs. If he was he would not have ****ed up playing for the club he supports. Compare his actions with those of Ian Taylor and then we see the difference between someone who cares and someone who only cares about the money he made from the club. Hendrie is a w**ker, always was, always will be.
notthedougellisstand
FAO our celtic compatriots: Good goal for JPA against celtic yesterday, bodes well for the oncoming season...:-) as the second hit the back of the net I swear I could see Boruc mouth 'get me out of here aston villa'.
villain76
JPA really is doing unbelievable
Pking
Bigdion, i know people who shame themselves by hanging around with Lee Hendrie on occasion and they insist he's a self confessed blue nose (Remember his dad played for the blues). Isn't it funny how he always managed to be injured, awol, or suspended just before the derby matches? He's a waster and he won;t be missed. He was on a wedge of money and never earnt it. But if you and ric miss him that much you'll be able to find him in nightclubs in Sheffield soon, standing outside the ladies toilets, allegedly.
The Usual Suspect
Mido 6m to Brum! lol
Pking
I guess Villa fans will be taking the p*** out of Birmingham today, lol. Mido for £6 million, i'm absolutely delighted!!!
OneAaronLennon
You've got to laugh at the Mido to the Blouse for £6m. They were laughing at us earlier in the week for signing Harewood for £3.7m. I know who has had the value here and it ain't crooked nose and the porn factory.
notthedougellisstand
Teamtalk.com has an article (with quotes from agent) about how Sneijder is still available with Spurs and Villa interested. The price is $30m (£20million) because Babel went for so much. Chances are that 2-3 weeks ago we could have got both for £18m or so. At the end of the day, we are not in the market for these top top quality players because we cant offer Europe. However, the agent has not said he NEEDS Europe yet - he is young and needs a team with potential. Now if he goes in the Champions League for Ajax next year there will be teams lining up to take him on. I would love Lerner to dig deep and let O'Neill offer £15m plus for him. If we put no dodgy Newcastle type clauses in the contract (meaning if a big gun came in in a few years we could make a tidy profit) Or why the hell not - let him lead a Champions League charge in 2-3years. There is NOONE of his quality on our radar at the moment without Europe (or London) to offer. Of all the 'maybes' linked with us he has the potential to be one of our best modern-day players. I would not think we overspent if we went £15-18m on him. I really dont!! Lets just make an offer and sit down for a chat with him before we miss out to a 'bigger' club.
deano.avfc
You must remember that is only what the agent said. The fact is that Ajax are a selling club and I think that a bid of £12-15 million will be too hard for them to turn down.
OneAaronLennon
OneAaronLennon; what is your opinion on moody mido then?
Stig
Mido should be playing in the British open, he's had more clubs than Jack Nicklaus.
tarzan
TBH I am absolutely delighted that we have got £6 million for Mido. On his day he is a good player, but he rarely has "that day". He has got the wrong attitude. He is a dodgy character because when he wants to play well he can. However, he only plays well when he is playing for something, ie, a contract (when he was on loan with us), when he has to prove something (at a new club) and when he is trying to save his career (when he come off the bench to score against Arsenal in the cup). This is why he has had so many different clubs. A good player with the wrong head on his shoulders, he is in it for the money.
OneAaronLennon
Ryan taylor would be a good buy
Newman
Waste of 6mill they should have kept till jan ah well championship beckons blue scum.Spurs will only be able to go for one of either SWP or snide as will we so who floats our boat the most?I would be happy if MON splashed out big on either but i guess it depends on how much he needs left over to strenghen the rest of the team.
sk1nner80
I agree with you deano.avfc, Sneijder would be a great signing. He is a young and talented scoring (yet great at defending) midfielder, and one of Europe's greatest football prospects. He's definetely the kind of player around whom you build a team...and with Barry and Sneijder in midfield, we'd be lethal!!
delirium
I remember Mido from when he played at Marseille, and I think OAL's comment is right...not too sure about spending £6M for him, though...He'll probably be good in the Championship next year, though :-p
delirium
O'Conner and Mido (frightening combition watch them come 2th in the league
Newman
i mean 20th ;P
Newman
Is that another target Villa have missed out on? BBC are reporting that Middlesbrough have agreed a £2.5 million fee with Charlton.
OneAaronLennon
For Luke Young that is.
OneAaronLennon
Rommadahl is away to Ajax(right winger) is that where Sneijder plays? are they gettin in cover for his departure?Dam why do i always read between the lines?I think im turning into a woman!
sk1nner80
So unless Luke gets a last minute call he is going to Middlesvilla.Or is Mon playin mind games with these other teams by stealing them away at the last minute therfore causing them to feel inferior to the mighty villa and so we have beatin them before we step on the pitch!!!!!!!!!!!!! mon u are an evil genius hahahahaha
sk1nner80
Who say that Luke Young was a target? Sure we a right back but that doesn't mean.... Sneijder plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
myleftfoot
Vital MiddlesVilla claim Young has agreed to sign.
Adam Deuce
I don't understand, why does every Villa fan call them MiddlesVilla???
OneAaronLennon
OAL Eghiogu, Southgate, Boateng ,Paul Barron, Steve Harrison (Coaches) all within a short period of time made the trip to the half empty Ayresome sorry Riverside. Anyhow has Luke Young found his level... were we interested.... I suggest not !
fatloser
yes!!!!!!!!!!!!! were not gonna sign luke young!!!!! yippeee! much better right backs out there, although admittedly not in this country. haha and yeah sk1nner80 i always thought you were a woman _________________________________________________ you are a woman sk1nner80 _________________________________________________
ric112
I will be disappointed if we don't sign Luke Young, he is a proven rightback in the Premiership and at £2.5m is an absolute steal.
notthedougellisstand
I think that we've all got to forget the old names that have filled this board throughout this dreary summer, cause obviously if they haven't 'happened' by now, then they aint gonna happen. New names please gents, we need to freshen our rumours/targets list up. I'm sorry to see that Luke Young looks Riverside bound. Not a star name, nor a player who would put rear ends firmly into seats, BUT he could sure do a good job for us right now. Right full back please Martin!!
glensider
I just wanted us to sign Luke Young for the comedy value of having Ashley Young Luke Young Luke Moore in our team. Then all we would need would be a Ashley Moore.
Adam Deuce
No-one on soccerbase listed under Ashley Moore, damn! We need a RB though so just hope MON has another one in his sights.Seems good value at 2.5m ??
ASPINALL
I just watched some video's of Sneijder on you tube, what a player his long range shooting looks awesome.
chris the villan
may be some play in the justin hoyte rumor after all an English man playin for Arsenal is a myth.Face it boys we may not be gettin in the type of players that sell shirts if Mon thinks the selling club are tryin to wipe his eye.20mill for sneijder would be silly money 12mill tops.I just wish he could sign 3 or 4 players and then tell us 'folks thats it for now this is my squad and i will bring european football to villa park with this squad' cause all this speculation and hope is wearing me out cant be arsed with it all anymore.
sk1nner80
OAL must admit its good to read about Defoe stating how he is determined to stay at Spurs and fight for his place. He said if he wanted to leave he would have by now.Only concern is has he stayed to fight for a place because any move other than Chelsea Man Utd liverpool and Arse is a step backwards in terms of chances of winning anything.
sk1nner80
MON after JOSE BOSINGWA not a new name but hey ho. And blues on the transfer rampage with a bid for the yak at 10 mill!
villain76
Can't recall much about Bosingwa but this sounds mouthwatering, from wiki...José Bosingwa da Silva (born August 24, 1982 in Kinshasa) is a football player from Portugal. He currently plays for portuguese giants FC Porto. Watching Jose Bosingwa motoring tirelessly up and down the right flank, defending astutely and attacking menacingly, has become a spectacle within a spectacle at FC Porto’s matches over recent seasons. And at just 24 years of age Bosingwa has a collection of silverware that rivals many of Portugal’s better known players. Bosingwa has previously played for Boavista FC, Porto's local rivals. He is a versatile player who can play defensive midfield, as a controlling midfielder, on the right-wing and at right-back. He was part of the 2005-06 FC Porto Portuguese champions team. On July 22nd he was strongly linked in various newspapers to be moving to Aston Villa in the English Premier League for a fee in the region of £3 million.

This just off the vidi printer...Liverpool keeper Scott Carson last night admitted he might have to quit Anfield to protect his England chances. Carson, who signed a new five-year contract last summer, says he would ideally like to remain at Liverpool, but wants to be sure he’ll get first team opportunities. He admitted he is No 2 to Pepe Reina but expects to be given some first team opportunites. And with Aston Villa keen to sign him boss Rafael Benitez could consider a £6million sale to the Midlands club.
villain76
some good links today, unfortunatey they are to West Ham! Gudjohnson and Freddie Lujnberg (can't spell his name)
The Fear
At this rate Fear we'll be playing catch up with everyone! forget the top 4 even 5 now with Spurs, then Newcastle, WHU, Portsmouth, Man City, Bolton, it's going to fight to get in the top half never mind Europe.
eltoro
Bosingwa seems a good bet for RB with delenay as back up, Hopefully we will then get a Decent CB for compition to Mellberg and Laursen and then just hope we dont get Laursen injured and we should be a top 6 team. Carson/Sorreson, Bosingwa/Delaney, Mellberg/Laursen/???/Cahill, Bouma/???, Young/Maloney, Reo-Coker/Petrov/Gardener/Barry, Barry/Maloney, Carew/Agbonglaur/Harewood/Moore/???

How do you know ....... ?
ASPINALL
ASPINALL - doh ...........................I think its because he's the manager????
myleftfoot
saw SWP play the first half against LA Galaxy and he was ordinary to say the least! yeah i know pre-season, but...... do not think we need this guy. for me a right back and a goalie must happen. hoyte or bosingwa suit, and carson. maybe another versatile proven defender. up front we look fine, carew and gabby will have an impact this season. snieders class in midfield would be a nice touch but ni think its a longshot. besides, the midfield looks alright as well.
leftfoot
Anyone know if we can watch the canada/us games anywhere?

ASPINALL

MON only targets players who want to play for us, you can't put a price on that.... Look at all our best players from recent times.

Tony Cascarino in the air, or in this case the times. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premiership/aston_villa/article2120794.ece

Anyone else struggling to get through to book Liverpool tickets?
In MON we trust!
Cascarino's argumants are flawed. There's no point throwing money around, West Ham have proved this doesn't work - players join for the wrong reasons (money)
tarzan
I agree, but it would be great news to capture a "big" signing. Someone to turn the head and raise an eyebrow. Someone to look forward to going to see. Sneijder would have fit the bill perfectly but that seems unlikely now.
The Usual Suspect
Looks like any posssible deal for Sneijder is dead. He has stated he is staying at Ajax for another season. I see that Leighton Baines is going for talks with Sunderland. I think he would be a fantastic signing for us, although other positions within the team are much more pressing.
notthedougellisstand
ljunberg would have been another good squad player alas he's gone to West Ham
VillaMalta
Snjeider was a) 20m b) after CL football!
tarzan
Ljungberg....squad player? He would walk into our first team. Another one bites the dust........
tylervilla
Totally disagree, he's injury prone and past it - Wenger and the top 4 don't sell decent players (to EnglishTeams). From what I hear the transfer negotiations are taking forever this summer.
tarzan
yeah thats why i said he'd be a good squad player ideal to come on in the second half to turn games
VillaMalta
Forgot to say the most important reason why Llunberg couldn't play for us - MELLBERG!!!!
tarzan
Ljungberg would have been a good signing 5 years ago but not now. Far to injury prone.
notthedougellisstand
What would we have to gain by signing Ljunberg?would rather give one of the young players a chance,Ljunbergs carrer is almost over now.
Pking
yeah isnt that a good thing ljunberg has won the premier league the FA cup and been to the champions league final and was captain of sweden. I think he would be an ideal player for our very young squad to learn from in training etc. and as he is getting on abit O'neill doesnt have to play him. He would be ideal in cup games and against relegation battling teams when our small squad is very tired. his career is almost over not over he is only 30!!
VillaMalta
Although Ljungberg is only 30 he has spent the best part of the last two seasons with injuries and consequently not playing. As I said on my earlier post I think he was an excellent player 5 years ago but I don't think he would be a good signing now. It appears to me that West Ham are signing names and not players to actually play and benefit their team. Ljungberg actually said earlier in the summer that he wanted to stay at Arsenal and wouldn't be going anywhere. Therefore it is Arsenal who have sold him not him demanding a move for 1st team football. We don't players who are not going to battle and fight for the cause. Lets be honest the only fighting Ljungberg would be doing is with Mellberg.
notthedougellisstand
for god sake....some of you out there think we have the best players in the world....I have some news....we dont! ......a player with bags of champs league and international experience + has score plenty of prem goals would actually improve us. Get out the clouds where have our current lot got us recently and where did the team with Ljungberg in finish? All players have injuries. We need to get out head out the clouds and face up that if we are going to climb the table we need BETTER PLAYERS.
tylervilla
Tyler I agree, but Llundberg could not come to Villa because of Mellberg, it's pointless debating this.
tarzan
Everton and Aston Villa are both currently linked with signing Rosenborg striker Daniel Braaten. Daniel Omoya Braaten (born May 25, 1982) is a Norwegian footballer, currently playing at Rosenborg B.K.. His former clubs are Tonsen United and Skeid. Before signing for Rosenborg, Braaten had attracted interest from various clubs in Norway and abroad, and had a trial with French side RC Lens in late 2003 with Daniel Fredheim Holm. [1] Braaten had however trained with Rosenborg as early as autumn 2002, but was still in contract with Skeid. The club asked 2,5 million NOK for Braaten. Braaten has become one of the most profiled players of the Norwegian Premier League, through his colourful, untraditional and artistic playing style. He has become known especially for his individual technical skills and physical strength, and as a player who will do unexpected things on the field, surprising both opposing players as well as the audience. Recent storys report that Daniel Braaten will leave Rosenborg when his contract expires in January 2007. Several Premiership are reported to be interested. Hmm, more paper talk i feel and also i never heard of the bloke.
villain76
im not arguing he would come Im arguing with the people who keep shrugging their shoulders as good players go to other clubs and say 'we wouldnt want him' - DENIAL, DENIAL, DENIAL. We all want new players - we got half excited by Marlon Harewood for goodness sake, we would go ecstatic for Lungberg. Its a harsh truth but it is true.
tylervilla
No one knows who we are after, that's the real issue here. Also the protracted negotations that are taking place with most transfers. It hasn't helped with the vastly inflated asking prices.
tarzan
so what sources on the net can be trusted? sky sports? i wonder who the 3rd signing will be?
Eaton_thevillafan
we can argue between ourselves as long as we want, but it still dosen't make any difference, if we buy no more players, we're in the smelly stuff, I for one feel we have fallen behind teams that we where ahead of, if you'd have said that to me when MON and Randy took over I would have thought you were mental, some of you think Europe is on the cards, like I said last time, 5 places are all ready taken, leaving just 2, and we have to fight it out with Bolton, Portsmouth, Newcastle, WHU, Blackburn, Everton, and hope Reading don't have another season like last year and Sunderland don't have one like Reading did last year, Europe is a long way off today believe me, we should have done a poll at the end of April, asking how many players we needed to move us to the next level (class players) we've lost Davies and replaced him with Reo, we've lost Angel and Sutton and replaced them with Marlon, as I see it we're no better off 1 week 'til August than we were 3 months ago, more's the pity
eltoro
What would a signing like Hameur Bouazza do for people's opinions?
Miss_Aston
"What sources on the net can be trusted?" (Eaton_thevillafan) - the simple answer is none. Nor can the newspapers. Nor can the TV and radio, and especially their ex-footballer pundits and out-of-work managers. They all have a vested interest in exaggeration and making up unfounded and controversial stories. The ONLY source to believe is the SIGNED contract.
BobTheBuilder
£5m and Ridgewell for Curtis Davies is what i am hearing, plus Jaskelinan for £3.5m.
tarzansbrother
Tarzansbro - didn't you say Young was a done deal?? What happened there mate. I hope if we sign Davies we don't use Olly as a RB. His distribution and crossing is poor. Davies had a poor season for WBA according to season ticket holder-mates. I'd prefer a more finished article. Jussi would be class. It wouldn't surprise me if we swopped Tommy for him.
Gazvilla
Has Young signed for Boro? but yes i did say he was coming. Davies has that bit of class about him, yes he did have an average season but he was their captain like Reo coker and could bring something extra to our squad.
tarzansbrother
Would welcome them both Tarzansbro and think a RB would still be signed after that. They would both add quality to the squad and if Ridge is to leave then we have 4 CB i have total faith in.Jussi would be good but perfer Carson. Is snide into the last year of his contract? surely unless the player has no interest wot so ever the club wouldnt turn down A 10 mill bid?
sk1nner80
Miss_aston i don think Hameur Bouazza would do muchfor us. Just need a GK, RB, CB, CM and a FWD and i think we are set for a Uefa push. Shame we cant get Wesley.S after his choice to stay in holland but neva mind. BOB i believe you are right but i think Sky Sports shed the most reliable light even tho 9 times out of 10 is mainly bull. well at least we can laugh on how wisely we have spent so far. 6 MIL FOR MIDO? I hope we dont sell anymore players. Im fully in favour of MON at the moment but If we're short in Nov/Dec again i will really turn on him. He's said several times that he doesnt want to have a small squad and has had months to sort it. Its all in his hands.............................Im sure it will all work out by the time we play Liverpool but the waiting game is starting to annoy most fans. If the next signing isn't a major one i suspect to see a fair few angry supporters......ALL IS WELL FOR THE TIME BEING
son_of_cher
Wes Brown would be agreat siging, dont care if he has orange hair. He NEVER ducks out of a challenge and has more european experence than any of our players. Doubt he would fancy moving to us though.

I for one would welcome SWP at the villa but im sure kenyon said they aint selling. I'm gonna look around see if owts on the net. Villa selling ridgewell? why are we still selling? shouldnt we be buying before selling now, seeing as the market is full of teams throwing cash about, and its possible we could lose out on a few signings just by being priced out. Odd.

18 days left till the start of the season, and the teams in a worse position than it was when we finished last season, how can that be! I think its time we had a press release from Villa Park shedding some light on the situation, MON says he wont bankrupt the Villa! I think thats an under statement, you don't go bankrupt from spending money, you go bankrupt from spending beyond your means, I don't think we've got near to spending Randys money, tell me if I'm wrong, but we must be in the black when it comes to spending this year, what with sky t.v and everything, and please don't run the old 'most of the players sold didn't play last season' I'm talking about the squad as a whole. We need at least 4 good signings, preferably before the season begins, answers on a postcard! its just 2 months ago since some on here were giving people stick about them voiceing their concerns over the lack of activity, I wonder what their thoughts are now with just over 2 weeks to go!
eltoro
MON leaves it late, and lets not forget there is 5 weeks left. All will be well.
The Usual Suspect
Eltoro buddy, there must be some things moving behind the scenes. Most of the transfers this summer have taken unbelieveably long to negotiate. Which ever way you look at it, the top 4 cherry pick all the best players. Even if you splash the cash you can end up with average players. Also MON may have been looking to move certain players on first, this will inevitably open up opportunities for everyone.
tarzan
I'm inclined to agree with you eltoro. I know the season is still just over two weeks away and the transfer deadline is 5 weeks away but the comments emanating from VP are beginning to concern me. I do believe that Mr Lerner will put the money up for signings as he did this with Petrov and Young last season. However, I'm not so sure of what MON is doing and certainly who Storey-Moore has been scouting in Europe. I wonder if he has been off on his jollies at the expense of the club. I know the market has gone quiet over the last few days but I think this is because clubs are playing friendlies. Looking at the squad I think we need a GK, RB, CB, wide player and possibly another forward. I will be amazed if we sign five players before the end of the deadline. I know there will be those who come on and attack me for these comments but if they aren't beginning to get concerned then they must have blind faith.
notthedougellisstand
I agree with you both that we need these 4 players BUT I can't really see what you expect the club to say. They have the policy of not commenting on any transfer speculation to not get our hopes up. The point are that a) it's not as simple as just making a big offer for a player b) it has to be accpeted c) most importantly in my opinion the player must want to join us. Two other factors don't help us with the lack of European football and MON's perceived conservative attitude in spending his funds (ie. getting "value for money").
tarzan
I'm as frustrated as the rest of you, but we have to keep the faith. If by the close of the window we haven't brought in the right people or the squad is the same size or smaller than last season, we will have reason to complain and ask questions. Until then, lets just trust our great new manager and board and see what happens. I admit I'm frustrated we have missed out on certain players but there are still players out there who imo would come to Villa and improve the squad....Jussi, Baines, Hoyte, Davies, SWP, Smith??
In MON we trust!
MON said he had a list drawn up at the end of the season so i can only believe that we have been turned down by most of the players on it or have lost out to other clubs over fee/wages etc...! Why else are we waiting so long...?
deemz
Unfortunately its true, we are not Man U. Having a list of players you want and signing them are not the same thing. Still, Celtic fans warned us of late dealings in transfer markets, and it was proved true in January. Did anyone see the Carew deal coming? i know i didn't. We will sign more players. Hopefully there'll be a star amongst them.
The Usual Suspect
There was an article on here entitled, 'Not all doom and gloom' not so long back. I know what Yatesy Villain is saying but are you lot taking the proverbial Michael here? This time last year was doom and ******** gloom time! Ellis still doddering about the place, O'Useless may or may not have just got the tin tack, the players were moaning about lack of ambition and paying for masseurs out of their own pocket, dodgy kit, dodgy players and nothing but a relegation fight AT BEST to look forward to! You moaning ********s don't even know you are born! Get a top manager in, a board that has made nothing but positive contributions AND have already put their money where their mouths are and still it isn't good enough. Memories of goldfish you lot have got! Everyone is a bit frustrated and it seems to be squeaky bum time but have faith. I'd rather the management team did things this way than the previous all mouth and no trousers regime that we had to endure for 30 odd years!
Rawlie
i agree with rawlie.. Rawlie, where are you when avfc48 spouts his crap?
The Usual Suspect
rawlie for president!
son_of_cher
If you read more of these posts, Rawlie, you will see that by no means all of us - in fact nowhere near a majority of us - are stricken by doom and gloom. Apart from a few loud voices with a perpetually negative viewpoint, most of us are happy as pigs in poo with the way things are. That isn't to say we necessarily agree with everything that the Villa team have done or will do, but in general we're happy that things are being done for the right reasons - the good of Aston Villa FC - and support MON, RAL and the rest of our team, on and off the pitch.
BobTheBuilder
I know we're all bored and frustrated but this perpetual debate is even more boring and is just going round and round and round..... We need more players. We expect more players. We will buy more players. Villa are better now than 12 months ago. But we need more players dear lizer dear lizer there's a hole in my bucket dear lizer a hole.

I was reading about an article on SAF and his early yrs @ Utd. His earlly purchases weren't all that dramatic either. Anderson was one and a scotish striker whose name escapes for the mo. Anyway, his first objective, which happens to be ours, was to make Utd a strong top half the table team. Only then could he attract the kind of players to augment a promising youth development program thay had going - sounds familiar. Qualfication to Europe was a second objective - once met then higher profile players could be lured to play for Utd - ie Hughes. The thing is SAF developed a very strong unit by buying relatively unheralded players such as Robson, potato head and to a certain extent Cantana, and later Keanne. I have the distinct feeling that when MON says he is a manager from the old school he has this same plan in mind. He may not be looking for that 'big name' but for players that will just get on with the job as efficiently as possible. Saunders did the same with us. Not one player he signed was considered 'high profile' at the time. My point being is - who cares about a players reputation. What is important is wether the guy will improve our team/squad. So all those players that have been linked and signed for other teams were probably not Villa targets anyway IMHO.
myleftfoot
Anyone who hasnt read Fergies book, well worth it, the guy is a legend.

myleftfoot, great post. I have been saying the same for a while now. If your going to model yourself on anybody then you model yourself on the best. People saying we're worse of now than this time last year???????.......
Jon.H
Also see that MON has finally put the SWP rumours to bed for once and for all.
Jon.H
Not good RE: SWP, does this mean that we don't need that sort of player or does it mean that we can't afford either his price tag or his wages. Are we going to have a squad full of hopefulls? Looking at us we need a couple of proven world class players other than Berger and Carew who are consistent injury free.
Villan444
I dont think SWP really wanted to join us and I think he might be staying at Chelsea, what would be the point in signing players for big money that dont really want to join.
Pking
*strikes SWP off list* Hmm intriguing who next? a battle with the barcodes for brangeland is in the papers, but nothing else of note. MON has stated he is HOPING to get more, i think thats all you can do when every team injected with prem cash is bidding for the same players we are. Hoping to get is a little different to going to get.
villain76
Im excited about more players such as Steiber and O Halloran breaking through,we could have a load of young players that have grown up together, you cant buy that. Also looks like Ridge is staying they said that the Blue noses are looking elsewhere on SSN.

Aston Villa face competition for Lens goalkeeper Charles Itandje from Derby. Villa boss Martin O'Neill is keen on landing the stopper, who is valued at £1m by his French club. But Derby's Billy Davies wants competition for current first choice Stephen Bywater and is also considering Ipswich's Lewis Price. Itandje, 24, who once had a trial at Liverpool, has been very impressive in France. Is MON saving the cash for this years christmas party? arf.

I'm starting to get a little annoyed by the comments being made by MON and the transfer targets which we seem to be missing out on! I'm even contemplating changing my name! Firstly I fuming we are not in for cetain players, which I'm sure could enhance our team and in positions we need to fill....Baines to Sunderland, Young and Smith to Boro?!?! What the hell is going on if we aren't intertested in these players? Surely they would choose us over them? MON keeps going on about the overinflated prices....get over it, the whole market is inflated, so you've got no choice but to pay it. Reo isn't worth 8 mill but he paid it?! We have to start moving fast and not let players who would improve our squad, move to other lesser clubs! He then goes on to say, he won't do anymore business until they are back from America....that could be too late!! I am really starting to get concerned!
In MON we trust!
Have faith...

Newcastle, Sunderland have all bought in the casts off and their opening pre-sason performances dont look any better than last season, let the Boss do his job and chill out. Got me tickets ordered for Liverpool cant wait UTV

After reading Aston Villa blog it seems that were not getting SWP because O'Neil dont think he will come

On the subject of GK's, I, personally, think we should sign 2 young guys with loads of potential. Groom them for a couple of years. In the mean time, Sorenson is good enough to get us UEFA. In a couple or three years, when we are ready to shoot for Champions League, we will either have groomed a world-beater or we will be ready to buy a world-beater. Most of the GK names that have been thrown around lately are mid-level GK's like Sorenson. They may be somewhat better than Sorenson, but in the end, they are only good enough for UEFA, not quite good enough for Champions.
attila11101
Luke Young looks set for Boro after passing medical. I really think we have missed out with him. MON is saying he wants value for money, well £2.5m for a 28 year-old PROVEN Premiership RB sounds like value to money for me. I can't wait to see who we sign to play at RB, hope I'm not disappointed.
notthedougellisstand
Good post myleftfoot, and this isn't aimed at you mate, but I don't see the point of people having a go at all the fans on here who voice their concerns over the lack of activity and goings on in the transfer market, and please stop the 'this time last year it was all doom and gloom' that's exactly why people have their hopes up because of the takeover! I don't think people would be worrying half as much if players 'out' wasn't hugely overweighing players 'In' with only 17 days till kick-off, and again please no 'transfer market doesn't close till the end of August' there's been more than enough time to get business sorted, the blind faith showed by some makes me feel sick, agreed I'm over the moon that MON is manager of my club, wether he's the right man, only time will tell, fans have every right to be concerned, if by the time the season starts everything's fallen into place I would bet each and every one of them will own up to being a bit quick off the mark, while the rest of you cool cats can lap up the cream! if they were right all along though, it's time for 'head in the sand' for the faithfull! amen!
eltoro
Players fees are extortinate! I hear King Marlon took a pay cut to come to us (I'm serious). We need cover in the RB & goalie positions. Bearing in mind last season MON would be extremely unwise to not add to the squad in these areas. The fans have the right to ask the club these kind of questions its not a moan!)
tarzan
Totally agree that fans should have the ability and RIGHT to question what is happening at the club. I don't always agree with the negativity that emits from these pages but I do think that our position is beginning to worry many.
notthedougellisstand
A recent internet article quite rightly points out we have one recognised LB & no cover in the RB & Goalie positions. I am also worried if Laursen gets crocked, we depended on him heavily last season.

I am amazed that we have agreed to play this friendly against Toronto on a artificial pitch..? we have a VERY small squad and with the season about to begin in 2 weeks or so already some of the squad and MON have said they have concerns about the pitch and picking up injuries on it. Maloney is already out and several more players are complaining of discomfort..!
deemz
Guess as much as we dont want to admit it we are not as attractive to players we want so gettin in some of the names we have been puttin on this site is next to impossible and with SWP he has been honest saying he has not bothered to enquire due to him wanting to fight for his place at chelsea.I know marlon didnt blow our socks off but feel he will offer more than Angel and Sutton did last season and think any other players we bring in will be improvements to our squad but not big names. If we find ourselfs in a strong position for Europe come Jan then think he may splash out on a few players to cement that place.Remember MON has a 5year plan so if he has us in Europe by end of year 2 i for one will be pleased regardless of the team that got us there.Come on guys cheer up only 17 days till kickoff

ASPINALL

ASPINALL

4-2 fulll time luke moore hat trick!
villa96
luke moore is fulfilling the prophecy.
Stig
We'd be idiots to sell Luke moore after that. looks like Marlon Dinglewood is gonna be a bench warmer next season
Christo
I've got to say after seeing luke & gabby on the OS tv we don't need anymore strikers, the lads look a nightmare for defenders and if that can rub off on marlon we should be good to go up front, at least till january, all we need now is defenders of quality and JUSSI-JUSSI-JUSSI, if this guy costs more then we'd like to pay, then I say pay it he's got to be worth it!
eltoro
And yeah Luke Moore does look the badgers nadgers doesn't he? Hope he stays fit this season.
The Usual Suspect
eltoro - statistically most of the transfers in the transfer window are done in August, so i would say again that there is no reason to worry just yet. PLus its well documented that MON leaves it late - possibly as a strategy. We do need more players, and we'll get them, O'Neil has already stated that - in fact its all he seems to be saying at the moment: "We need another 4 or 5 bodies".
The Usual Suspect
3:16 - The Prophecy Of Luke. Luke Moore shalt scorus in the region of twenty goals in the 07/08 season. And with that act became he a God.
ric112
He'll want a move soon (Moore), if we don't tie him down...There was talk of Boro & others sniffing round, this does worry me. I am sorry but we'll be in deep doodaa if we don't get some bodies in soon. We need a Goalie, LB & RB positions covered, even shorter term solutions would be acceptable. Keane told Baines to get on his bike, apparently he wanted over 40k per week the joker!
tarzan
Am positive Moore wont go to Boro why wou8lod he want to step down instead of up
Christo
the usual suspect - I don't doubt what your saying is true, the problem is we could have done with all our signings before the season starts, I can't see any benefit whatsoever of having players brought in when the seasons begun, the bond that the guys have just had in Canada & U.S is priceless, when we become an established top 7 team, waiting to see whatothers do is a risk we could take when we are full of internationals, but at the moment we don't even have a full squad so I for one can't see the reasoning behind 'waiting for the sale to start' buy what you need first, then if you see a bargin later buy it, we can't keep waiting for bargins to appear.
eltoro
Southgate, Botang & Ugo, did christo, so nothing would surprise me, after all we let davies walk!
eltoro
eltoro - O'NEil today has said he knows who he wants and he's going to his best to get them in once their back from the US and before the season starts. I guess that means we could be in for a busy week next week, all being well. Am sure he'll grab a bargain at the last minute as well. I agree it would have been better to get people in before the transatlantic affair but it wasn't to be.
The Usual Suspect
The key for is to have cover before the season starts.
tarzan
eltroro read quotes form O'Neill "There won't be any signings now until we get home but, when I do bring players in, which I foresee I will do before the season starts on August 11, I will make sure that those I do bring in are right for the team" "You don't mind spending an awful lot for fantastic players, but it is less gifted players who are causing a problem because everything is rising. To try to get value is more difficult than before. Having said that, you have to try and compete otherwise you get left behind." O'Neill will bring players in before the start of the season. Secondly your wondering why he's waiting c'mon you know the reason it's simple not every player is going to available from the start of the transfer window. the movements of players between clubs has a knock on effect and others become available. Not every player is going to be available from day 1 of the transfer window which is what quite a few people on here seem to have expected
darkade
Recent comments from O'Neill suggest he thinks very very highly of Luke Moore so i don't think he'll be going anywhere. At least not if O'Neill can help it Having him back is one of the reasons I'm so optimistic about next season regardless of who else we sign
darkade
Delaney is being linked out now....I do take MON's point about even average players being extremely expensive. Look at Mido & Chopra.
tarzan
Darkade - we are threadbare in defence. I think we may be after Curtis Davies, but the Baggies will want (quite rightly) over 6m for him. I'm still puzzled why we weren't in for Luke Young.
tarzan
Delaney out? he must be going to FC Bupa or NHS Athletic.
tylervilla
Yep as we all know a right back is a definite priority but the problem is there aren' t too many about. I think because of this Luke Young was an obvious candidate. Personally I think he's an average/solid Premiership player but I don't really see him improving beyond that. In keeping with MON's signings to date I'd like to see someone a bit younger with something to prove but the question is who, please not Glenn Johnson. I can only assume O'Neill has someone in mind as he's well aware of our shortcomings which he's stated. BTW I'd say RB was as much a priority this time last year as it is now...
darkade
I hope we pick up Davies or Hoyte, would love to see both and or Glen Johnson - he's not worse than what we have already.
koolbill
Justin Hoyte is the answer. Young, english and will fit right in with his U21 mates!
In MON we trust!
Hoyte gets slated by the arse-anal supporters. Not solid apparently but TBH I havent seen that much of him. Luke Young late ambush for me.....solid+england credentials
tylervilla
We cant late ambush for luke young - hes signed
Miss_Aston
I'd be more than happy if we pick up Jussi, Hoyte, Davies and Baines by the end of the window. Great competition for places all over the park!
In MON we trust!
Im with you there IMWT - thanks Miss Aston for the update. So are your really 'Miss Aston' or are you a Miss thats supports Aston Villa. (Back off lads . . . leave this one to me...ill handle it)
tylervilla
...or do you live far away and 'miss' Aston....or is your second name Aston so your are technically 'Miss Aston'.............
tylervilla
I hate to say this but a good buddy of mine is a 30 game a season Gooner and he is laughing his nads off that we've been linked with Hoyte, especially with all the 'you'd better be looking over your shoulder' comments I've been making about us and 4th place to him! My credentials are looking even wobblier than when we signed Harewood.
Rawlie
the usual suspect- thanks for the info mate, I read that on the OS, fingers crossed eh! and thanks also DARKADE, I'm aware not every player is available from day 1, I just think abit more should and could have been done before now, to be honest I think harewood was an after thought, if we'd been in for him right from the start he would've never gone near wigan let alone gone up their and had a medical! so can't understand the noises coming out of Villa, one minute they're saying we've been watching players and we won't buy untill we've stuidied them, then Harewood arrives, I don't believe for one minute he was on our rader, saying that I don't mind the lad being here
eltoro
Lol tylervilla believe it or not it actually is my last name - and I support the Villa too! How good is that lol! For the record, I would like to see us sign someone really random who noone has an opinion on so we can stop the bickering!
Miss_Aston
Leghton Baines, 6m & 40k per week - we're in the wrong job. The cheaper option is Robinson I think....but it's a question of whether he's any good
tarzan
With Tommy out who apart from Taylor is available. We've got rid of the beast and Henderson? MON get a move on my friend. UTV

A bit off topic just read this quote from Petrov "Every player tries to be consistent and that's what I try to do. You can't be consistent all the time but if you're not, then you have to work harder to achieve that level of consistency" I like the guy but this did make me laugh
darkade
back then Eltoro I dont think Middlesborough were relegation favourates
Christo
ok im annoyed. man city buy martin petrov for under 5m. we buy - noone. that is value for money. even man city are gonna build a better team than us at this rate.
ric112
Yep,surprised we weren`t in for him,he`s quality and with the Stilian presence thought we might get him.
ASPINALL
We don't need Martin Petrov. Who's he gonna replace? Barry, Young? We are well covered on the left hand side. Defence is the priority. Lets remain patient. Signings will be coming. I can't really see any superstar signings, more solid ones. Martin wants to build a squad. West Ham have spent silly money, i would bet my house on us finishing higher than them next season. Martin knows what he wants and he will get it. Lets get behind them for ***** sake.
weller77
Well spoken Weller but don't risk losing your house - anything can happen in football. Remember, Ferguson joined Man.U in the late ’86. Nothing until winning the FA Cup in 1990 which got them back into Europe again after 22 years in exile, not unlike ourselves. But look at them since! So let's just keep cool for 2 or 3 more seasons. MON and Lerner can, with our support, get us back to the top - never doubt it.
villacross
yeah but weller, we wanna be pushing on. we want quality players sitting on the bench. we want a big squad of quality players. that's where we should be pushing with the new owner and manager. By the way i'd happily see Barry play in the centre of the park with M Petrov out wide. Stilian would really HAVE to play well to get in that team. He needs more pressure.
ric112
If you want to build a squad then i would suggest buying more than you sell? Just a thought! Obviously a keeper and RB is now becoming delayed beyond any realistic decent preparation.I`m sure we`ll get there in the end (i hope)
ASPINALL
Tyler - if your bored - u should visit the blues site - that might cure u. Miss_aston - u should now by now everyone has an opinion about everyone. Bickering is good - whats the alternative - we all agree with each other? - how sad would that be? I say bring on the diverse opinions - its people like eltora - tarzan and even avfc48 that make this site interesting (no offence ment by that) if not funny.

Just read the MON verdict about Luke on the OS. Speaks brilliantly about how Luke now realises he's got to work hard and stop flicking balls to the invisible man and hold it up. I remember Bouma saying how no one told him how to be a Premiership LB. With Roberton also on the coaching staff guiding the wingers I get the idea some proper coaching is going on here. The future's bright.........
Gazvilla
we didn't need petrov, we've already got one. happy to see luke in the goals, all be it against a lesser side, but goals breed goals. might relax things regarding striker worry. MON will stabilise defence numbers next week, couple of rumours regarding Lahm circling about. theres a player.
leftfoot
I know Lahm is a left back but pretty sure he can play right side so that would be an unbelievable signing, seem to be linked with Smith again today(surely not?) Can`t see any point with that one.
ASPINALL
Lahm is right-footed but plays on the left because he likes coming inside to shoot. He's also a German international and playing Champs league football with one of the top sides in Europe! Why would he come to Villa to A) play on the right in his unpreffered position and B) not play in the big cup? At the start of the window I thought these rumours were positive and enjoyed being linked eith top names, Now I feel they are divisive and down-right ridiculous.
Rawlie
Citeh in for Carson now, they ain't dilly dallying. Apparently he looked shocking the other night, they can have him. We need players but won't be doing nothing till next week, the Citeh will have bought everyone by then...
villain76
Rawlie, Lahm maybe playing for one of the big european clubs but he is not playing Champions League fotball as Bayern didn't qualify. This is why Bayern have had a massive overhaul of their squad. I believe he would be available for £4m.
notthedougellisstand
Bayern only in the UEFA this season.
deemz
I dont think we need Smith and I dont think were in for him and I dont think we'll get him.Why on earth would Lahm choose to come to Villa.
Pking
So, let me get this right. A German international might be available at a price of 4 million, which is what we've probably paid for Marvellous Marvin? Hmmm... got my doubts there!
Rawlie
Sorry... a TWENTY-THREE YEAR OLD German international!
Rawlie
Just read an interview with Niall Quinn over on BBC Sports website. Quite interesting point of view and kind of backs up what MON has been saying about this summer's window so far. MON won't pay over the odds for average players.
Jon.H
yeah i read that and thought "Fair play for not pandering to the agents". The game does not need agents, they're simply a drain on football money and they're talking prices up all the time.
The Usual Suspect
it's been great fun reading the posts on this article from fans of our beloved club. i for one am disapointed with the lack of activity in the market, but we need to judge the management on results and trophies. MON is building this team from scratch because of past poor management. it aint gonna change over night. if this time next year we are talking about another poor mid table season then we all have a right to moan, and i'll be the first. we all want a team full of star names, but that doesnt always provide instant success (look at Real Madrid) we need european football first and then build from that. i don't normally go on this long, but it's my first post. rest will be shorter....promise
*Holte*End*Star*
Noticed the Gordon rumour resurfaced as soon as Tommy got injured. Obvious lazy journalism no one knows who we are going to sign.
tarzan
Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is moving for Manchester United striker Alan Smith. The Telegraph says O'Neill will step up his summer pursuit of Smith, who will need to decide between Villa, Everton and Middlesborough. I know its tribal tripe but they do quote the telegraph again probably lazy journos. But if we did get him where would he play? i find it puzzling we get linked to smudger. I like smudger he has a fire in his heart and plays a 110% (yeah not physically possible but you know) but all i could see him as would be another squad player, perhaps dropping to midfield. Not really are highest priority at the moment
villain76
I agree it's hard to see where he'd fit in, bearing in mind we need to strengthen in other areas.
tarzan
Agree villain76. i think he's a great player who never lacks commitment. BUT we don't need him... unless he can play in goal! or RB at a push. i think it is lazy journos again. i would like to get Baines (although he seems to be a greedy bar stool!) with regards to the GK position i like Tommy (i think im the only one) i would prefer to strengthen the outfeild first. When is the game against Columus Crew? the sooner MON gets back home the sooner he can do the biz. UTV
*Holte*End*Star*
*Columbus Crew OOPs

Smith is just a Robbie Savage, run around, hack peoples legs and stick the elbow in. Nice to see Ridgewell get a run out in the states. MON should let him develop, or at least give him another chance to get consistency.
Villan444
haha...quinn! slags teams off for paying over the top for average players. ahem...chopra...cough.

Villan444
Chopra is ****e. Sunderland will be dropping straight back down, along with the scum and........ i reckon Wigan (hoping its West Spam though) Come on MON, i'm going to get the sack from work if i spend anymore time on the net in the hope we have just signed some one. and now the rumours are drying up i scratching around for hope.
*Holte*End*Star*
Apparently Olly has told the Toronto papers he fancies a move there? If it has any substance I wonder if he got ticked off when the cataincy was taken off him? Just a thought but if we got another LB I wonder if MON fancies Bouma as a CB or last least as cover. He certainly can play there. Regarding the keepers, we at least need a youth keeper and a reserve keeper as we sold 2 of them.
Gazvilla
Gazvilla - i think he means when he retires in a few years time, i don't think he's talking about this transfer window - although you never know...
The Usual Suspect
I don't know if it's been mentionned somewhere on this thread, but former Villa trialist Steeve Mandanda (GK) has been loaned out to Marseille (French Premiership) for a year with a view to a permanent move. And speaking about goalkeepers, Charles Itandje (who's also been linked to Villa) mentionned in an article that he would consider a move to the English Premiership if a club is interested. I still hope those rumours about Itandje are only paper talk though...
delirium
Not really transfer related but I was pondering today (on the bog) about next seasons formation. I started to think that maybe MON is gonna start the season with that 4-3-3 formation that he used up until late last year, using a 3 man midfield of Petrov, Barry and NRC. It would leave some tasty competition for the 3 places up front. Thoughts?
PBAVFC
I thought we kicked ass with that 4-3-3 4-5-1 formation.Am starting to think Petrov will do well next season. So used to no signings that anymore will be a bonus,Im not complaining.
Pking
I agree I think shye should go 433 I mean we went 10 games unbeaten using it
Christo
I think it is guaranteed that we go 4-3-3 next season. I just hope MON gives Petrov a kick up the a r s e by playing Gardner, Reo-Coker and Barry v Liverpool!!! Carew up front with support from Young and Agbonlahor. Competition from Harewood for Carew and Maloney and Moore for Young and Agbonlahor. The attack really does look decent. But we really need a GK, LB, CB and two RB!!!
deano.avfc
For anyone who is into their squad number info - the official site on squad list page has Reo-Coker number 20 and Harewood number 10 - Carew is also number 10 but in the number 9 position on the list if you know what I mean!!! However, Im sure there will be a re-jig soon - just hope we can fill the vacant Number 3, 7 and 8 shirts with real quality!!!
deano.avfc
I'll be number 7 if no one wants it lol
Christo
I Know Petrov was rubbish most of the season,I just can't stop thinking about his debut, his performance that day was immense. We're all forgetting about Maloney,if we can strengthen at the back then happy days.
Pking
I'd love to see 10 plus goals from Petrov next season. He's clearly got ability. Has anyone else noticed that most of the recent pictures of Petrov in the papers etc he seems to be smiling and look like he's enjoying himself. Hopefully he's finally settle in.
PBAVFC
Like I've said b4 - there potential goals from any number of players - We need strengthening at the back. I see Reo as very much a link player and petrov playing further forward. It would seem to me that Maloney could be that creative spark we need in behind the strikers - that just a thought. I think Gabby is wasted on the wing so I'm inclined to go with 442 - Young Reo Petrov barry with berger, gardner and maloney providing cover. The other alternative is the 3-4-1-2 with Maloney operating behind two strikers - you would effectively play with three centre backs with cover from the wide men in mid. This would be risky formation but very attacking. The popular concensus has to be 4-3-3 /4-5-1 though. The point being we have options all over the park except the right fullback - watch this space.
myleftfoot
Please Please Please - a little patients. I actually blame modern society for our frustrations and people like AVFC48 who are big on 'I told u so' attitudes and who, by the way, offer no real alternatives. Society is to blame for a must have now attitude to everything. MON is old school - he is build a team not just for next season or the one after - he is building the foundations of a team that will be one of the leading teams in this country. It takes time to build and nurture a winning team, it takes five minutes to build a team full of stars. Now I'm going to get biblical - does anyone know the parable about building your home upon rock as apposed to sand? Well which you rather have a steady but solid team that is develong into a truely great side aka 1981/82 (missed opportunity - thanks Doug) or a five minute wonder team (Ron Attikinson - Thanks Doug) ? I know which I'd prefer and this is why I'm not going to get frustrated.

"The gossip machine is once again in full swing with news that Aston Villa's Martin O'Neill is following Sam Allardyce's lead and is set to hijack Brede Hangeland and Jose Bosingwa." eh? is something in the water in toonland? hijack there targets? I'm pretty sure we've been linked to bosingwa before the barcodes and roughly the same time as them for hangeland, mind you the Citeh will probably swoop for em both and end this squabble.

What's the problem? We're second in the league behind the mighty Arsenal and unbeaten! CL if it stays like this. UTV 8-)

hello all - is there any tv/radio coverage for tonights match against the columbus crew?
Eaton_thevillafan
I know we havent been linked with him at all (it seems to be West Ham, Spurs and Man City - but arent all players!!!) but how would everyone feel if we made a move for Kieron Dyer. I have never really been a fan as he is injured too often to show consistent form. However, I could see him in a decent centre midfield with Barry and NRC in a 4-3-3 formation. At £5-6m he could be a good option!! He would certainly provide competition to Petrov. I thought we were a midfielder short last year and with NRC in and Davis out - we still are!! What do you think??
deano.avfc
sorry Eaton but try a local radio station they might do it

Rawlie, Bayern have just sold a 25 year-old forward for £3.5m. They are having a clearout. Don't be surprised to see Lahm leave for £4m. They need to recoup funds because of failure to qualify for Champions League

Randy has been quoted that we are about to become "more agressive" in buying players, same article states we may buy Bosingwa if Porto drop the price from 5m!! I give up.
ASPINALL
ASPINALL- I think this is the reason why so many fans are geting a little fed up with goings on at VP, I read the same article and thought exactly what you did, not sure if randy said that last bit or if its just added on paper talk! Remember when doug wouldn't stump the extra 500 thousand for keanne? SAF really did a job on Ellis then. My point is the argument for 'value for money'. Playing for Wolves?? in the second div - too much of a gamble Villa said. The diff in asking price and what was offered was 500 thou for heavens sake! I believe sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. Young is a good example on how our attitude has changed. RL has taken the gamble on this potential England star - Ellis would have pretended to, but lied to save face. This is the difference in attitude at he club since Ellis has left. Some of you have forgotten this and some of you have chosen to ignore this, AVFC take note. I say ignore what you read and just show some patience. All will be right on the night.

1 nil young scores a brilliant individual goal.according to the website.

I still dont feel that we need to panic just yet regarding transfers. When MON gets back in England then i believe that our attempts to buy worthwhile targets will increase. Remember that the media didnt see the purchase of either Carew or Harewood until they were virtually done deals. This is how MON operates. I prefer this approach to our recent past when we all got excited about our supposed targets only to be let down. Lets see what the end of next week brings, hopefully at least a right back and a goalie. Also we can still dream of Seijder in a villa shirt until the end of the window. Keep optamistic

That should have said Sneijder, sorry

Notthedougellisstand... you mean the guy that daft sod Hughes has just bought for Blackburn? 3.5 million for a 25 year old is good business... unless he is as bad as this guy! 155 league appearances - 31 goals! great goal from young for 1-0, some good movement from barry ,and carew holds off defenders (again) to put ball back in barrys path, great left foot strike 2-0 second half, they get a goal back 2-1, marlon shows why we bought him, great turn and strength on edge of box good shot under pressure ( reminded me of Dalien Atkinson, if he's half as good has he was we've done o.k, I know he spent more time on incapacity benefit then on the field but when he was on form he was quality, I was there when he scored that wonder goal at wimbledon, where's that guy with the umbrella that danced on the pitch with him! that wasn't you MYLEFTFOOT was it! ) defender got block in, last minute berger cross from corner luke's there again 3-1, all in all a tidy result away from home, guys not 100% match fit, defence needs some work stil,l but going forward we're looking pretty tasty, great to see all the Villa fans on tour (well done guys) loved the 2 big banners, NEW YORK VILLANS & CHICAGO VILLANS, spread the word the Claret & Blue Army are on the march!

Christo
Fat Freddy has said his clause for 9.5 mill ends on Tuesday. Freddy's stirring it a bit methinks. For the Villa...... no, I think Owen's had his day.
Gazvilla
Sign him, when fit there is nobody better to finish a chance off. He would give us international coverage, he would show other players villa is a team that top players can go to. Owen and Carew to me sounds awesome. Imagine the shirt sales! He has scored lots of goals against top international sides in the big games, if he is available for 9.5mil that would be the best value signing of the summer.
bigdiondubs
would owen come to us at the moment? Its not like buying a cd you know, the player can refuse us.
The Usual Suspect
Owen will be injured again for most of this season. Theres no point gambling on him. We can use Gabby and Luke up until Christmas, if they dont do the business then we could maybe go for another striker in January.
son_of_cher
Ok fed up now.Are we going to have the balls just to put in a bid for either Carson or Gordan and get it over with?Boric is injured so no point buying damaged goods

I look at the newspaper rumours on ceefax, its great.
Pking
yea but today ive seen no Villa rumours on 338. We all know Martin likes to leave things late so maybe we should just put our feet up or play video games. Last day of the window and am sure we will buy 2-4 players
Christo
villan444, been moving the site to a new server, been just a couple of glitches!
The Fear
we have to get a keeper now regardless. only 1 fit keeper in the squad and a weakened defence - thats livin dangerous. We will be well in the shi-tter if the defence takes another injury. Forget Boruc - dont think MON will sign him and Gordon is well over priced - I remember Jussi playing a blinder against us last season and i think he is the most "realistic" target for us. Hopefully a CB and RB will follow shortly. Oh and another one for interest - Ediur Gudjohnsen is apparently interested in a move to the spammers. Any thoughts if we should move for this guy providing his wage demads are acceptable?
Eaton_thevillafan
on Owen - I was responding to should we buy him? not will he come I know thats a very big if. Everyone has their price though...hmmm
bigdiondubs
owen? not really - one bad tackle and that legs gone again. way to injury prone to justify 9 and a half mil.
Eaton_thevillafan
more excitement on the rumour front. News now is reporting that 'Sorenson struggling for opener', 'young on a high'. With less than two weeks until the season opener you gotta love it. or not.

Eaton let me get this right you would not like to see Englands number one striker, second in the all time England goal scorer records down at the Villa. WHAT PLANET ARE YOU FROM EATON!? If Man City sign him (rumoured) and we make no effort I will lose all hope and probably my sanity. Carew hasnt got the best injury record but we all love him so whats the difference.
bigdiondubs
BigDD 9 and a half mil for a player who played what 5, 6 games last season and i think scored one goal? the barcodes paid 17 mil for him and what are the chances of owen coming here any way? excellent player but too familiar to the sick bay. i know carew can get crocked from time to time but ive never known him to be out for a season. and as for man city? wha? come on? what next? media frenzy because of a new manager and board. total load of toss me thinks. we have been in the presses storm aswell. oh and the reason we all love carew was because HE WANTED TO COME TO VILLA!!!!!!!!!! ;-)
Eaton_thevillafan
Huh? was carew banging down the door to come in - I dont remebr that. Has Owen said he wouldnt want to - if he signed it would mean he did (if that makes sense). Your right this is a pointless argument as probably never happen but hey ho
bigdiondubs
Well BigDD Im sure Carew would have rejected us if he did not wanna come. but i do see your point. A fit owen on the other hand.....................
Eaton_thevillafan
gotta say that owen would be a phenomenomenomenal signing; newcastle are lucky to have him. However, get real. big dion dubs played with a broken neck, who could argue with him?
ric112
gudjohnsen would be better than owen. but i think the issue is defence and the need for numbers there.
leftfoot
It's good hear left feet think the same
myleftfoot
newcastle are lucky to have signed him? Not at this stage in his career, were he to choose to leave them they've paid £17m for about 6 games and 1 goal, not to mention the wedge he's on as wages. Talk sense.
The Usual Suspect
Random question but when are the squad numbers announced?
In MON we trust!
Owen is on >90k per week? One of the richest players (if not the richest) in the premiership? He'll want CL at this stage of his career.
tarzan
Isn't the reall issue here that we have no cover at all. Our first choice RB is not match fit and a crock. MON has said he wants to offload Ridgewell. Our reserve keeper is a donkey. I notice Wigan want 6m for Baines, that's the price I say we should pay it.
tarzan
We just signed a yank with a broken foot! You couldn,t make it up could you!!!
silkie villain
What's this Hangeland like? Where does he play? In goal or at RB?!!
tarzan
Baines is a left back.
weller77
We've already got cover at LB in O'Halloran
YatesyVillain
Mr Fear....you still need to update the headline thread - Davis should be showing as an out and you need to now add a one-legged Yank Defender for the ins....Yippee....(groans)
YatesyVillain
word is Bosingwa, Hangeland and Jussi are "likely". that would be ok.
leftfoot
ughhh why did we have to get rid of Olejnik
Christo
he must be good if MON has signed him with a broken foot! Leftfoot where did you read this??
*Holte*End*Star*
For ****s sake Villa, lets try and get people excited and begin to bid and sign players. The way we are going we won't have anymore players before the start of the season.

Lynam will interview key football figures, starting with Martin O’Neill, ahead of Setanta’s first Barclays Premier League match between Aston Villa and Liverpool live at 5.15pm on Saturday August 11. The interviews will form part of Friday Football Show....there...silky smooth lynam back in puditary. I'm liking the 9.99 monthly packages at setanata. Oh sorry no new rumours nowt until he comes back and we will be in squeaky bum territory
villain76
Setanta 120 quid a year, what a rip off. Prem plus is only 60 i think!?....new signings (***** knows who) announced tomorrow by the way
son_of_cher
Son of a gun - where did you get this juicy morsel? Who's this Hangeland anyone?
tarzan
I admit am not happy with the Setanta prices £120 is to much and prem plus was £40 and then went up to £50 so it is much dearer and I doubt i'll see any of the matches on it my bill payer didn't mid paying £50 but not £120 just for football matches
Christo
Brede Hangeland from FC Copenhagan. A big CB. Newcastle are also sniffing.
Gazvilla
Yeah but i'm not gonna watch every months quota of matches because some months aren't worth 99p let alone 9.99.
villain76
yea but problem is I wanna see Villa v Liverpool and am not likely to see that that or be there live like I was spost to origionly
Christo
son_of_cher (sorry to here about sunny), spill the beans how do you know?
bigdiondubs
I don't think there is prem+ anymore, and setanta is 9.99 on demand, some months we're not on, others twice, so works out at 4.99 a game, so don't worry about the £120 a year, and its got to be better for the football fan's when more companys are involved, if your not bothered about live, you could always go with B.T. vision around £4 a month, every match shown in the evening'full 90mins' or for £12 you get setanta live games and all the full 90min game in the evening! or better still you could sit in the holte, the choice my friends, is yours.
eltoro
bigdiondubs I'd like to know too
tarzan
If Taylor takes a knock saturday, then who are we left with? Olejnik gone and Henderson i believe, Who left?
silkie villain
Maybe Martin might not of thought of that happening or there again maybe he might have a trick up his sleeve
Christo
Hope your right Christo.
silkie villain
What id Delaney breaks down? I suppose Mellberg will play at RB?
tarzan
sure I am surely Martin aint stupid or maybe he has made a huge mistake but I think that is rare
Christo
Yay we signed a kid with a broken foot!Wot next a striker with no neck??? Oh thats right West Spam got Bellamy.
sk1nner80
I'll admit to being an american, so I don't bleed that game like many of you, but I am a solid villa fan. Some of you seem silly to me. You act like MON probably doesn't know that we need a RB (even though he has said as much). So we all need to scream it often so he can figure out what we already know.... My question isn't "why isn't he pouring any amount of money to fix this?" My question is, I wonder what he's thinking of doing if he cannot find a capable, proven RB at what he thinks is a fair price? In Toronto, he played Craig Gardner and Gary Cahill at RB. Neither one looked completely safe, but Gardner was much the better of the two. I couldn't see the Columbus match. It looks like Cahill played on the Right there. The match report had Gardner on for Barry at half. Did he come into the midfield or did he slot into RB with somebody else pushing up?
srsmithusa
I think if MON cannot find a capable RB before the season starts then he's really "dropped the ball" (to put it politely) and I would be very very concerned. This is pretty much the only reason why i'm convinced there will be at least one more signing coming. Also the fact that (I don't believe) we were in for Young must mean he has another option lined up. We can't slot square pegs into round holes - we need a specialist RB, not a "slot in" option. Agreed for the US tour this was probably his only option, but we absolutely cannot head into the new season in this position or my opinion of him would change dramatically. Even a loan move would be welcomed if the right player can't be found for a permanent move at this very moment in time.
YatesyVillain
Hmmm dodgy tribalfootball reckon £8.5m for Matthew Taylor. I like him, but I'd rather another source of information on this one.
evoflash
Is Taylor a midfielder though? Surely we have enough? By my reckoning we're already going to have Petrov and Gardner on the bench. If Hangelande comes then Ridge will be off so numbers will remain the same.
DeanoVilla
He can drop to left back so say tribal tripe always thought he was midfield though. 400! back of the net!
villain76
screw 8.5m for taylor, go and get leighton baines for 6m
Stig
I think they need another striker, but I think Young and Moore will be quality this season, good luck to A.V. for this season. Leeds coming back up!
tedpowelluk
You've got American youngster Eric Lichaj. Look On BBC football
tedpowelluk
Time for a new thread and finally update the ins and outs! Hopefully the general won't sell Ridge to the noses.
